Hi all
Please find attached the finished pics of my 1/72 Drachenballon. I say finished (this thing never wants to leave the workbench), the band around the drain valve has come loose at the edges. This will be an easy fix, I only noticed it while editing the pictures. Having discovered the best quality pictures i can take are in the garden, when the sun is out but not shining directly into the garden (and that does not happen often here) I will not be taking them again.
Build log can be found in the Scratch Build section along with a list of what I hope are the only other errors. https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=3765.0
In short the champions of this build are :
Cotton thread soaked in Superglue. This kept the load bearing rigging looking taught as in the archive pictures.
Insulating (dense) Foam. I could have made the balloon with papier mache, plunge molding or vacuforming but luckily I chose to use insulating foam which is so easy to shape and very forgiving to knocks.
I would also like to thank all the people who were patient enough to follow the build over such a long time and leave such nice comments.
Alan.

Alan.
I hit the button a little quick, before you finished, so here is my post that I deleted:
It May have been a Long Build but the results are well worth the effort! Brilliant work. The rigging lines are Mind Blowing to say the least. Gorgeous results

PS: I enjoyed following your build!!

Amazing build, so rarely, if ever, seen subject, gorgeous finish. Congratulations!

What can I add? This may have been a long build but it has been well worth the time and effort. The build has been very informative with lots of novel techniques which can be used in other scratch built models.
I especially like the fact that this is a very unusual subject and as Prez has commented, one which is rarely, if ever, seen. The photos are stunning and make the model look totally realistic. In all an absolute stunner!

Absolutely incredible and breathtaking job! Long builds challenge the spirit in terrible ways, but your success at the finish line was worth it! thanks so much for sharing the journey and the accomplishment!

Such a wonderful result. I've save the build thread to peruse at a later time, so sorry I lost track of it.
This is truly a labor of love sir.

Hi Alan,
I say finished (this thing never wants to leave the workbench)
The final result was worth all the effort and time. Fantastic!
May be an idea for you:
I saw a ballon diorama at the Euro Model Expo. I have not asked the modeler how this beast is fixed on top of the dio, may be in the trees? I have seen no struts.

Thanks MoFo and Gary for your nice comments.
herbarnold99, it challenged my desire to comfort buy more stuff and make my stash bigger more than anything. Although I have done 3-4 kits on the side over the last 7 years I normally do that per year. On the other hand I have bought about 8 kits in that time.
WD, when I last perused it I noticed another error. I did say in one of the latter posts I did not know where the rip panel is but back a few pages I say it is under the nose, I looked on some archive pictures and indeed it is on the undersde of the nose. Too late to do anything now. One of the perils of long builds is you forget earlier things.
Frank, thanks for the kite balloon picture. It must be attached in some way thru something masked by the trees. A diorama is probably the better way to go when building one of these.

And yes,it's fixed with Steel wires hidden in the background trees.
