Title: Mark IV Female 1/144 Brengun
Post by: ondra on March 04, 2022, 07:44:03 PM
Hello everybody, long time no see.

After a long break I am back to modelling and decided to kickstart my modelling mojo with this little resin kit by Brengun.

The assembly of main parts seems rather straightforward, the PE parts will most probably be a different story:

Ondra! Welcome back!! And what a way to return: those little Brengun kits are delightful. I'm excited to see you work your magic with her.

Many thanks for the nice welcome, I am really glad to be back in this lovely group!

So far a very relaxing and straightforward build, the part engineering is brilliant. Even gluing the door joints in place went smoothly, although them PE parts are really tiny.

Many thanks for your nice comments!

A bit of progress over the weekend, soon she will be ready for painting, only a few parts remain to be added + of course some cleaning and retouches.

She's shaping up beautifully, Ondra! I only have limited experience with the brand* but there are a few of their kits I'd love to get. I'm excited to see your next update!

*the 1/144 Mignet HM.14 Pu du Ciel/Flying Flea. Yes, really! Initially work halted because I lost the engine-and-top-wing-mount, but now I feel up to scratchbuilding a replacement the whole box has vanished.... :'(

Many thanks for your nice comments!

Given the fact that I have next to no experience with PE parts this part of the build was a bit of a struggle and the result is far from perfect, but I can live with it.

There are two more parts left to be glued in place and then she gets the first coat of primer.

Many thanks, KiwiZac!

It is time for some paintjob, so she got a coat of Mr. Resin Primer, afterwards Black Surfacer and finally Drooling Bulldog Zinkweiss. Ready for preshading now. :)

Many thanks for your kind words, Zac!

Yesterday I was experimenting with rust effects using Golden Ochre. I did not want to overdo it, but at the end of the day, the effect is so subtle it is barely visible. :)

Nevermind, another attempt today evening.

Ondra, this is just a beautiful build, and if it weren't for your hand in the pics, I'd think it was 1/72nd at the least.

Don't worry about the subtlety of the rust effects, I believe less is more. After having been an armor crewman operating tanks that stayed out in the open for decades, I'm thinking these tanks probably didn't get as rusty as some would believe, so you're in great shape there.

Many thanks for your nice comments, KiwiZac and WD!

I kept on procrastinating on the next step, the unditching beam, as I was scared of working with the PE chains. But at the end of the day, it went quite smoothly.

Many thanks for your kind comments, Rookie and Zac!

I want to avoid damaging the PE parts on the roof of the tank, so for easier handling I decided to add mud and dust after the model has been glued to the base.

Therefore I started working on the base yesterday:

And hopefully this will turn into a burnt tree at some point. :)

KiwiZac:  ;D ;D ;D
Edo: right, the terrain is way too smooth, so I added some debris and so on.

I will have to rework the helmet, though, since currently it looks rather like a land mine. :)

Since Flirt II was deployed in the Battle of Cambrai 1917, I will have to add a lot of moisture to the base as well.

Ok, here is the final result, not perfect but I can live with it. Next time I will use a bit of artistic license - the wet look is historically rather correct, but I liked the dusty look better. Nevermind, I still have a Male in my stash. :)

This is a very beautiful diorama Ondra. What an excellent detailing in this tiny scale!

I'd like to see it sitting next to William Adair's Royal Aircraft Factory Fe2b...
