Utterly fantastic news. At other forum sites there was a lot of expectation about a new-tool 1/24 Spitfire being the crown jewel of the 2022 range and many suggested a Mk.IX would be the logical move. Absolutely brilliant news. My smile was growing throughout the video - while I'm still very, very excited for the Kotare 1/32 series this really is a must-buy for me.
The fact I'm visiting a friend with a flying Mk.IX this week has nothing to do with this announcement nor my excitement, I'm sure!
Now I'm off to see if those other forums are still live or have imploded from all the superlatives! ;D

Wow , she looks to be a beauty , if it's anything like their hellcat ...going to be a treat ...now if they would only redo their Mustang in scale ...

If, like me, you are thinking of making a IXe or XVI of some flavour you'll need to turn to the aftermarket for specific bits:

If, and that's a very big if, I'll get one it'll have to be MK732 in RNLAF colours. :)

Interesting they're not planning an IXe though. I'm not a Spitfire expert, but other than the wings there aren't a lot of differences IIRC?

The extended cannon barrel and associated blisters are outboard, and I'm led to believe there's some change with the spent shell chutes? However I'm planning a XVIe so I'd need a new top cowl...Buchon Scale Models to the rescue?

Thanks Zac!

My pleasure, and as I have a special subject in mind I'm watching the aftermarket folks very closely.

NZ's (and my) first flying Spitfire, sadly sold to Australia but she went to a very good home. As soon as Airfix made the announcement I knew I had to do everything in my power to build TB863 out of it. A very special aircraft for me.
