Title: Hello from the Pacific Northwest
Post by: Grant on November 21, 2021, 01:10:35 AM
I came across this fourm while looking for information on my up coming project which will be the 1/16th scale Model Airways Albatros D.Va kit. There is a wealth of information and expertise here that will be a pleasure to learn from an better my building skills. I live in the Puyallup area of Washington State and have enjoyed modelling my entire life, over 50 years now, wow am I that old already? Ouch! My modelling experience ranges from plastic kits to radio control aircraft. My real passion is WW1 aircraft, just something about that period of time that draws me in. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to spending time here and getting to know the folks that hangout.

Thanks,
Grant

Nope, Northern Alberta, Canada. Maybe a day and a half drive I suppose.
Cheers,
Lance

Welcome to the board, Grant! In my experience you won't find a more knowledgeable and supportive group of WW1 modellers anywhere else online.

I'm very excited to see your Albatros build. I think I've only seen that kit done once online and it is an impressive - and a little intimidating to me - kit. What a great project!

Thanks everyone for warm welcome, very much appreciated.

KiwiZac,
I do have some hesitation on starting the Albatros but it will be at my front door on Tuesday, no turning back now!

Hi Grant,
I'm in Bothell, just on the other side of Seattle from you.  But it looks like your interests tilt toward the larger models, while I'm focused on the almost-little kits in 1/72 scale.  (The REALLY little ones are the 1/144 kits from Valom.  Even too small for me)

One way or another, perhaps we can meet, with Kevin and others, at the IPMS Seattle Spring Show in Renton on April 23.  There are usually some terrific models displayed there, and I doubt my WWI aircraft will be up to snuff by then.

Rick

Sounds like the IPMS show in Renton could be a real possibility, always enjoy getting to know others who enjoy modeling. I do like the larger models, the old eye sight and hand coordination aren't what they use to be ;-)

I currently work up in Woodinville so I know the Bothell area pretty well, very nice community. I work in the construction trades, not to many places I haven't been here in WA, I'm a born an raised Washingtonian, web feet and all!

Hi Grant (and welcome!). I use a picture hosting site called IMGUR which is free. Once your photos are uploaded to IMGUR, you can then paste the picture link associated with the photo you choose called "BB code message boards and forums" in your post.

Cheers,
Gary

Google Photos will definitely not work!
May be for you, because the picture is in the cache of your browser but not for the others.

External linking was possible and allowed in Google Picasa (which is frozen now, so no new updates). With the change to Google Photos is was explicitly stated, that external linking of the pictures is not allowed and/or possible (help pages). The links are changed often.
You can only generate links for sharing, but the users have to visit the Google pages to see the photo, so this is definitely not a option here in the forum.

Suggest to follow the recommendation of Gary.

Cheers,
Frank

Hello Grant
Welcome to the forum. One of my dreams has been to make an RC WW1 plane but God knows if I will ever get round to making one.

Thank you for the welcome!
Flying RC WW1 aeroplanes can be a challenge but they are so cool to fly. Had Fokker DVII that was an outstanding flying but like a dummy I sold it.

I've often toyed (hehe) with the idea of RC and have had a go on a dummy box. There are some beautiful builds out there but for me they never seem to capture scale flight (always appearing to have very jerky movements in the air) and, kinda cruicially, don't sound anything like the real thing. Even the very impressive Moki 5cyl radials sound cool but the airborne models still sound like they're powered by Stihl or Husqvarna.

Anyway, I don't mean to derail your intro!

I fly electric versions but most definitely would be very difficult to capture the WW1 engine sounds, they are one of a kind forsure.
