Title: A warm hello from Austria...
Post by: Puchi on October 30, 2021, 04:58:03 AM
... to the model building community! (http://www.puchiweb.at/Smilies/superwink.gif)

My name is Karl, and I started modelling in the late 1960s at the tender age of about 8. My first kit was a biplane, a DeHavilland D.H.4 from Airfix in 1/72. Some of you may remember: the sprues were packed in a transparent plastic bag, which was closed with a "cardboard sleeve".

At that time I had no experience in plastic modelling, so I used all-purpose glue to glue the parts together, which according to its name should glue everything, including plastic... Naturally this attempt ended in disaster, and the attempt to paint the model with watercolours was not much more successful either.

Nevertheless, I was proud of my first model, and so plastic modelling became my hobby. After a long break, I started this hobby again some time ago, not least because I am now the proud owner of a spacious craft room in our house. Spacious it was, at least until I started filling it with work surfaces, equipment and tools. ;D

Now, what do I build? I build models of various kinds, aeroplanes (mostly 1/48, here the flying machines from the pioneering days of aviation hold a special attraction for me), ships (mostly 1/350), vehicles, etc.

Frank (Bughunter), who is a dear friend of mine and who is also active here with his wonderful models, drew my attention to this forum, and so after reading along quietly for a while I decided to become a member here too - not least because of the pleasant atmosphere in this forum.

So I am looking forward to spending time with you and your great models,

best regards,

Karl

A warm welcome to you Karl! I'm really glad to see you here!

Now, what do I build? I build models of various kinds, aeroplanes (mostly 1/48, here the flying machines from the pioneering days of aviation hold a special attraction for me), ships (mostly 1/350), vehicles, etc.
What he is building? Fantastic models!
Karl has a tendency to do really huge projects, but he is really able to finish those. My highlights of his models are the diorama of wreck of the Titanic in the depth of the ocean and the aircraft carrier Akagi. But there is much more.

Sorry Karl, if I have given too much away ???

Really pity that we have not meat each other for a while due to the current situation, but at least we have the Internet!

I hope you have big fun here!

All the best from Germany!
Frank

Sorry Karl, if I have given too much away ???
no worries, Frank. I will also show these models here if there is interest.

Karl has a tendency to do really huge projects...
(http://www.puchiweb.at/Smilies/kichern.gif) and you are so right, Frank! But, for the most part, however, I have underestimated the effort involved.

Really pity that we have not meat each other for a while due to the current situation, but at least we have the Internet!
Yes, really bad! But if we don't meet in person, this forum will bring us together again. (http://www.puchiweb.at/Smilies/Daumen auf.gif)

all the best, my friend

@Dave: thank you for your welcome and for your interest in my models. I think I will start with the photos of the finished models, the construction reports are very extensive.

Thank you again for your kind welcome.

What a pity!

Now I'm back home and wanted to comment on the Lilienthal glider, but it's been deleted.
Well, I can understand that. A warm welcome is no substitute for a friendly comment on a wonderful finished model. And not a single word after many views?

Cheers,
Frank

Hi Frank/ Bughunter

I can assure you I did not remove Puchi's photo post so I can only assume he deleted it himself?

cheers

yes, by himself.

I would urge Karl and others not to post something on the Forum then just delete it without explanation. It can become confusing and especially if the post attracts some responses.

Sometimes posts can be on the forum for a while before others notice and react to them. Deleting a post without explanation after just a couple of days goes against forum protocols, unless the post is factually wrong or breaches copyright laws etc.

I noted Puchi's glider and was very impressed with it but had not commented before he removed the post.

Welcome!

We've been on vacation several times in Austria, and really enjoyed it, a very beautiful place for us "Flachlaender" from The Netherlands :)
Having an interest in naval aviation, I look forward to some pictures of Akagi :)
