Beautiful! The star night scheme is just fabulous! Fine shading at the bottom.
And one question - the Holt flare brackets on FE2b were additionally supported by a drag wire - was it not a case on Pup?

Looks superb. I particularly like the shading of the underside of the wings.

Just out of pure curiosity: did you apply shading on the top as well? I am interested because I am building a Fokker D.VII with a complete khaki top and I am not sure if I should apply any shading there. I could spray the top of the ribs a shade darker, but I am not sure as I don't see that very pronunciated on the real thing.

Ivo

Thanks guys!  This was a great kit to build, and the Pup is a very handsome and elegant aircraft, IMHO.

Przemo: I think you're probably correct about the drag wire for the Holt flare brackets, however I could not find a photo to confirm, and the Pheon decal instructions and plans didn't show a wire, nor could I find one shown or mentioned in the Biff instructions, which was the kit I "borrowed" the flares from per the Pheon instructions.  I have seen the wire in other drawings of the Holt flare assembly.  Since I was not sure, and this model was for my daughter, I got lazy and didn't go to the extra trouble.  ::)  If I find a confirming photo, I can always go back later and add the wires! :)  They might be a nice extra touch, as the flares do look a bit Spartan hanging out there all by themselves!

Regards,

Bob

Ivo:

I did preshade the top wing, but it is very subtle, visible only upon close visual inspection.  I did it by airbrushing black along the ribs.  I then airbrushed the primary color, actually avery dark gray, over top.

For the bottom of the wings, i masked the ribs over the CDL and used Bud's powdered chalk technique, sealed with Future.

I'm not sure that the preshading makes much difference with black, but it would with a PC-10 scheme.

Bob

I think I do see what you did on the top wings, when I enlarge your pictures. If I am correct you masked the top of the ribs and then sprayed a line of black over it? Or do I now misinterpret your reply?

I'll have to look for Bud's powdered chalk technique, because I really like the bottom of the wings. I have a WNW RNAS Pup lying in my stash waiting to come alive as an LVA version, but with the ordinary british paint scheme.

Ivo

Bob, I've never been all that keen on modeling fighters as trainers, but this is undoubtedly my favorite Pup scheme.  My wife's, too.
Cheers,
Bud

I felt the same way about trainers Bud, and it was only my daughters request that led me to do this scheme.  Boy has my attitude changed after building this Pup, and I am very grateful to my daughter. ;D

I'm glad your wife likes it too! :)

Hello Bob,

Love the Pup! I had such fun doing this decal selection and it's great to see the likes of you, mgunns and Dr.Dave making my two dimensional stuff come to life in these super models - it makes everything so worthwhile.

Bud, I think that it is fair to say that this Pup may not have been "just" a trainer; it had full night-flying gear and armament, including the Neame illuminated sight, and could well have been used in a secondary operational role, flown by an instructor.

Huh.  Well, I still like her, no matter how nasty you say she was.
Cheers,
Bud

Hello Bob:

I have this sheet as well, and your's will be a log that I follow as I do mine.  This really turned out sweet and as Rowan mentioned, it is nice to see it in 3-D.  Outstanding workmanship all around.

Best

Mark

I love this! I never gave the pup a second thought until I saw these photos! Are the little stars painted on or is this from a decal sheet?

Hi Ss!  The stars are all individual decals, which were relatively easy to apply.  You can read about it under the same heading over in the "Under Construction" section.  You'll want to get Pheon Models Sopwith Pup Pets & Trainers decal sheet.  You can check that out and order over in the Pheon store in the "Hobby Shop" section of the forum.  This decal sheet is fabulous, but beware---once you've seen it you may end up building multiple Pups! ;)  Enjoy!  I'm glad you liked my Night Trainer Pup. :)

Regards,

Bob
