I've now started work on the Valom 1/144 Sopwith Camel and Triplane kit set - just a 'small' build this time :D

Nice outcome on this little kite :)

It's wonderful Dave!

That's really turned out beautifully, Dave. Congrats on a very attractive build.

Excellent results on this Old kit Dave! I enjoyed following your processes.

I can barely believe such an old Airfix kit could be made into something so beautiful. It's a fantastic result, I really enjoyed the build thread too.

Ditto all the above !

Thank you Alexis; WD;Gary;Rick, Richie and Ed -
It was great having you all onboard during my build log.

I built quite a few of these when I was younger. They never looked as good as yours. A great looking model of an old classic.

Thank you kindly, RVW!

A wee beauty, Dave :o
Love it!

Beautiful result, Dave. Very nice clean build and neat rigging.

That old Airfix kit has never looked this good! Well done, Dave! A great colour scheme, too... Regards, Marc.

Many thanks, Bob, Manni and Marc -
I admit this was a very enjoyable little project (if a bit daunting at first) and overall I am very pleased with this one.

Just got back today Dave - hence the slow response. You have made a real silk purse from a sow's ear with this model - a mini-masterpiece. The base is excellent - simple but effective. I am so pleased that I managed to persuade you to attempt this one - a real success story for you.
Stephen.

Thank you, Steve -
It was daunting to begine with but once I got more into it I really enjoyed this little project.

A great result from such a vintage kit.

Thank you, WD - appreciated, mate

great work! i have a couple of these old Airfix Albatrosses somewhere. You have most likely inspired me try one out after all these years :)
cheers, Skyhook

Thank you, mate -
I'm pleased this has inspired you - look forward to seeing your one in due course then!

The posed control surfaces are cool. I need to try that. Nice model!

Thank you, Stuart!

Many improvements indeed! The prop looks as if it is separate from the spinner, rather than the single blob provided in the kit. Is that an optical trick created by black outlining at the base of the prop, or did you actually cut it out?
Thanks,
Rick
-
Hello, Rick -
Thanks, mate!
Yes, I cut the original molded prop from the spinner and used a prop from my spares box. I could then file the cut in the spinner for it to fit then added a back plate made from plastic sheet.

Hi Dave,
I've just been reading through your build thread for this little beauty. Excellent work, if I may say so! I like the trestle, it's a great touch, and the base is something I must try.
May I just ask whose paint you used for the green/mauve camouflage and what shades they are? (Apart from just "green" and "mauve", obviously :D)
Kind regards,
Mark

Beautiful work Dave! What did you use for the rigging for such a small
model? By the way, the base is really well done!
Ernie :)

Great work on an old basic kit turned into a modern standards model, and a very good one.

Dave,
Congratulations on a lovely model. Like most here I've done a few (or more!) of these over the years and as Monty pointed out earlier they also never looked this good! It's nice to see an old classic such as this shine!
Cheers,
Lance

Hello, Mark - thank you!
The paint I always use are Revell 'Aqua colour' acrylics. The green is dark no. 39. However, Revell don't offer a purple colour in their range so I used 'Game Colour' Ozing purple.

Thank you, Ernie -
Rigging material used is a nylon sewing mending thread (sold on a sewing reel) which is smoke coloured - relatively fine and being coloured meant I did not have to paint it.

Thank you, Giuseppe and Lance - very kind of you both to say.
This project was a challange set to me by Lone Modeller (Steve) so we have him to thank on this one as well - it was my first serious attempt at scratch building missing details.

Hey Dave, I see you favour the exposed detail too - but in 1/72 it's most impressive. I remember making the Airfix DVa decades ago and I'm sure the kit hasn't improved much, but you've made a silk purse out of this particular sow's ear. Lovely stuff.

Hi Dave,
many thanks for your reply with the camouflage colours: they look good to my eyes and eminently suitable, so I'll be trying them out in the near future!

Thanks Dave, sorry for taking so long to answer...the rigging looks great!
