Got this on evilbay for a very good price. I think the seller mis-priced it.
1/48 SBS Caudron C.450 racing plane from the mid-1930's. This is one of the best cast resin kits I have seen.
A C.460, which is a C.450 with retractable landing gear won the 1936 Thompson Trophy - the first and last time a foreign entry won. It was the only year foreign entries were allowed, and it cleaned everyone's clocks.
At 1/48 scale, its very small with a wingspan of just over 5.5".

The interior is pretty spartan, as many classic raceplanes are. The crank on the left side is for the split flaps and elevator adjustment.

One the right side is the throttle and mixture control and a compressed air bottle for operation of the landing gear.

This one is going together fast.

Excellent subject Ken, I spent a very pleasant couple of hours looking at inter war racers at Old Warden aerodrome yesterday. Wonderful, exciting period of aviation.

Beautiful work sir! I saw when SBS started doing these, and was sorely tempted as I love interwar air racers.

Thanks for the comments, folks.
I should have this done today or tomorrow, so pictures will be coming.
SBS is also about to release the Caudron C.561 in 1/48.
This has been a nice quick build. The quality of the resin kit is top notch.

Lovely work so far!
Nice to see something colourful in the non WW1 world!

Got this finished in near record time - 2 weeks. Should have been done earlier this week, but life got in the way.
This plane easily won the 1935 Deutsch de la Meurthe, a competition over a closed course southwest of Paris. A similar one won the 1936 Thompson Trophy, but no one wants to talk about that because it beat all the American competition.

Now on to something else.

That was quick!
Lovely work - what a long nose that aircraft had!

Well that looks superb Ken. This little racer looks like the smallest amount of airframe possible fitted to the biggest posssible engine. Not a bad policy for a racer!

Man that looks lovely. Your model makes me smile ;)
Cheers,

Wonderful racer. It's always refreshing to finish a model so quickly.

Absolutely beautiful racer! I really like it.

She looks lovely, Ken!
2 weeks? That is crazy fast from where I'm coming from ;D
Congrats.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. And yes, 2 weeks is very fast for me. This was possible due to the quality and low parts count of the SBS kit. The resin casting was about as perfect as I've seen - top shelf stuff.

Ken, what a nice racer, in it's bright blue!
This more dark blue on the package would also look great, but your color is an eye catcher.
Nice to hear, that resin can be formed into wonderful kits :)
Thanks for showing.
Cheers,
Frank

Very sharp!! What paint did you use?

Thanks for the comments, Steve and Frank.
I used Tamiya rattle cans followed with 2 brushed on coats of Future after decaling. I noticed the box art has different shades of blue on the plane, but no picture of the real ones showed much tonal variation and I'm sure the real ones were kept spotless.
