As Ken has written that looks like the Woodman method but with styrene core: simple but effective. The photographs are very clear and self explanatory.

Hi all,

Thank you very much for your kind messages  :)

The suite, with the wings and the full cockpit (speculative, except the steering wheel, which can be seen in a photo of the plane).

Everything is made with Evergreen , some PE, and scrap plastic.

Once all the pieces were glued, I slid the assembly into the fuselage.

More soon

Hi friends

The Germania has progressed well, as you can see.

The fuselage has been improved in terms of shapes.

Those rib shadows look good enough to me - remember they are representing shadows so the outlines should be a little uneven. In any event the scratch build is excellent and of an unusual type - that alone is sufficient to catch my eye.

Hello Stephen,

The previous photo is confusing. The wings are not glued, there is still work to detail the fuselage.

After a very long break, the Germania JM is back!

It has been stripped since last time.

At present, the wings have been fixed and rigged.

There were still quite a few parts to build and fix.

See you soon

Beautiful, Arnaud!

I'm slowly catching up with many of the more interesting older threads here on the Forum, and this one is one I'd missed until today. By some weird coincidence (or synchronicity, as Jung would call it!) my oldest son and I went to a hobby shop in Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday, where he fell in love with the old Meikraft kit of the Lloyd 40.15 and bought it. Neither of us had ever even heard of such an aircraft... he hasn't done any modeling since he was around 12 or 13 (he's 37 now!) but his stash of WWI kits is larger than mine, and he plans on starting again "someday..."

Is yours from the Meikraft kit? It's a fascinating aeroplane, in either case!

How did you make the side radiators?

Title: Re: Germania JM, 1/48

Hi Joe,

Thank you so much!

For the radiators, I started with a plastic coffee filter with very fine mesh:

Cutting strips in the direction of the mesh and gluing them to a rectangular Evergreen rod, we're getting close to the desired effect. With an aluminum + juice trial:

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your kind words!

No, the Lloyd 40.15 is a full scratch. It is not commercially available in 1/48 scale. I decided to make a rectangular fuselage. I think Meincraft represents it as triangular.
I had made a topic on the forum, but all the photos have disappeared.

I found a few photos on my computer. Sorry for the quality:

In the company of its successor, the Lloyd 40.16, also scratchbuilt:

Super pair of scratch builds - and a really interesting project for God's Own Scale modelling....when some of my other projects are completed!

The radiator idea is first class.

As Rick said, a beautiful model of an ugly plane. The wood effect is really stunning.

Thank you very much! ;D

I love Lloyd airplanes. They were very bold for the period.
I have several prototype projects in mind but I have to finish other projects before that!

These are my first full-length scratches, which are a little dated today in terms of finishing details.

I'd like to finish this Germania JM hahaha

This is looking so good! Very clever way of making the radiators.

I might steal that idea...
