Outstanding interior and the rest is just as Good! Is this a Variant of a DH?

Yes, Soviet Russia built unlicenced DH9a's as Polikarpovs just after the War.

Cheers,

Hugh

That's absolutely gorgeous work TMS, one of the best interiors I believe I've seen.
Cheers,
Dave.

Heya

Yeah the R-1 was a unlicensed DH.9a build but saw developments aswell such as fitting radios and different types of bombs etc etc. The ADC also sold regular DH.9as to the Russians so if you want to build R-1s and dont have a photo of that exact aircraft you can basically do whatever. R-1s were also exported to places like China, Iran, Mongolia and Afghanistan

Some more work done on it today
The fabric section of the fuselage is a slightly different shade but its hard to see in its gloss coat. ive also highlighted the area with tamiya smoke. Alerions/Rudder and stuff are held in place using brass rods. (broke 3 drill pieces doing them  ::) ). Wings dryfitted as can be seen by the wonky struts, first external rigging done with the wires on the landing gear
next update on Thursday

Really looking awesome! Being able to easily mount the upper wings is one thing I loved about WNW kits. The precision of the strut fit and alignment were terrific!

Thank you, it is very nice but also a bit annoying when it fits fine when dry fitting yet when you go to glue everything in place it wont stay where its meant too

I just don't see how you guys can install the landing carriage now before the rigging the main wings is finished . I always break them off during the stage of a build .

She does look good with the top wing in place ! Also like how the engine cowl is removable to show off some of that work  :)

The landing gear assembly on the ninak is its own separate piece that just drops into place, meaning if i wanted i could build the whole plane and add it last. its not currently glued in place, and thank you

I agree that the interior is just amazing. Mind you the remainder of the build is not too bad either...! This one will be a stunner and in Chinese markings too - we do not see many of them.

Very fine work all around. The interior, the outer colours... I am one big fan of Ninaks. But seeing it in the Soviet R1 version brings me to ask, do we know if they differed somehow from the original? Or is it just the educated guess from WNW that they were exact copies?

Cosmetically the R-1 didn't differ much from the original. The main difference is around the radiator with some R-1s have the slats removed or not fitted and also side of the radiator looked different being more like a triangle compared with the English sides. however a photo of a exported one shows the sides of the radiator like they are on the model. The other cosmetic difference would be the paint schemes

internally its a bit hit and miss. I know the pilots seat was different being a more square thing but i decided to just use the kits seat. i also know that they were fitted with holsters for a pistol in both the pilots and observers cockpits. here is a good article on the R-1 or P-1

Thank you for the explanations and, more importantly, for the link to that interesting article/monograph!
And good luck with your spectacular build!

Nice work!  Is that the interrupter gear linkage on the lift side of the fuse under the machine gun?

Stunning work, I don't know this aircraft which makes this build even more interesting. Amazingly precise work!

While its not super visible on the DSLR photos mainly due to the gloss coat and it being a very slight variation i have also used my modeller licence and tried to replicate painted over soviet markings on the top wings

The colour and tonal variation looks perfect!
The painted over starts on the upper wing are subtle, yet effective.

Cheers,

Hugh
