Title: LVG E.IV/E.I - where's the radiator?
Post by: RLWP on April 06, 2021, 07:16:40 PM
This is the one and only LVG E.I two seater of 1916:

It has a couple of interesting features, the first use of a ring mount for an observer in a German machine and a forward firing synchronised gun with an unknown sychronising mechanism

It has a water cooled 120hp Mercedes D.II engine, there's a huge water tank on top of the engine - but where is the radiator? There doesn't seem to be a surviving front view of this aeroplane, how did contemporary monoplanes solve this problem?

I do not think that is just a large water tank on top of the engine. It appears to be a roughly cylindrical radiator. Slightly curved sides with a circular rear.
