News from Roden today that their new 1/32 scale Spad XIII is due for release in mid April.
Roden President Vladimir has also confirmed for Forum members the kit is a Spad XIII. There has been some confusion on which marque of Spad we are getting.
The Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter and Avro 504K are also on the development programme but no release dates yet.
Roden decided to return to WW1 kits after encouragement from Forum members and our most wanted models poll not only encouraged them to add a Spad XIII to their list but to promote it to the number one release slot.
More news soon.

It appears Roden have tweaked the Spad decals. Here's the released sheet:

Great news for us all.
And here is some fun - I have just checked the Roden website, Spad 13 is already there:
http://www.roden.eu/HTML/634.html
But if you look further you may realize that if you attempt to build it you will end up with a lovely Stearman model :)
They erronously inserted the photos of Stearman sprues :)

I decided I wanted a chicken on my SPAD and found a French company called FFSMC on ebay, selling just such a set for Escadrille SPA48.
Anyone dealt with them?

Yep - I ordered one off Ebay on the 23rd - said it shipped on the 25th but we will see - I have a feeling it may take a very long time to arrive :)

Saw these on e-bay as well. Would love to do a screamin cockrel SPAD.
I'd be very interested in what you think of them when you have them in your hands. The pics on e-bay were a bit vague.
Best regards

Any updates on this? Thanks just wondering...

I understand Roden's Spad XIII is due for release any day now, and may already be available in Eastern Europe.
We are planning three in depth reviews of the new kit once it's available- Lance Carroll, RAG III (Rick) and myself will be offering three independent assessments of the Spad kit. Unconfirmed reports suggest the price will be between 42 and 47 Euros - very roughly in the $US 60 bracket.
More news the moment we have it!

Notwithstanding Poland being the central Europe, not the Eastern, I am glad to let you know that Spad 13 is now available on pre-order at at least two modeling shops - Jadar and Martola. However, no details of possible delivery are given. I will let you know if I find out more.

Thanks Dave!

For My part I can promise an evaluation based on reference and experience building a "Few" SPADs' ;D That being said One thing is certain. The Roden kit will be the Best 1/32nd scale SPAD XIII Early" Currently" in production 8) I Hope for improvement in a couple of Key areas, the most important to me being strut locations and locating pins!

Fingers crossed here, too. There are so many ways that Roden can improve, starting with quality attachment points for the struts, a Hispano Suiza engine that actually fits inside the cowl without bursting through the top of the cowl and some decent rib tape detail on the wings, just for starters.

And the rest!!!

All I can say is Eddie Rickenbacker and Frank Luke. 8)

For me a special decal sheet, please, with all nine of these gaudy birds of USAS 94th sqadron on occupation duties in Coblenz/Rhineland, 1919.

Aren't these the late versions without rounded wing tips? Maybe let us wait until the promised late boxing alights.

Sure! I don't intend to buy the early SPAD XIII.

From the ne picture, it appears to be a mixture of early and late .

Any sprue shots yet?

The Profiles show the late panels on the fuselage.( Hopefully not an indication of the actual kit) It seems to me that two left fuselage halves would be needed for an early or late version to be 100% accurate. If not having sanded a Hobby Craft fuselage into shape I guess I can do the procedure again. It only took a couple of Hours ;D

Not yet. I saw on FB that Dave is working on trying to get some for the Forum!

I have just received the FFSMC decals for the 48th escadrille SPADs. There appears to be complete markings for 2 aircraft - #7 piloted by Jacques Rogues and #2 piloted by Armand de Turenne.
These decals are different from typical decals in a couple of aspects. They are not screen printed, but printed by some other method. The registration appears to be good. The edges of the color graphics do not appear to be hard lines, but are sharp enough to my naked eye to be acceptable.
The other difference is the film around the graphics is die cut so the decal sheet is a complete coverage decal film with die cut graphics and about 1.5mm of clear film around the colors.
There is a wood grain panel included, but I am not sure where it goes. The instructions indicate it goes around the cockpit area, but I am not sure I've seen that on a SPAD before. Maybe Rick can comment.
I measured the cockade proportions and the white is just more than 3X the blue center and the red is slightly more than 5X the blue center.
Overall, I am satisfied with the appearance and look forward to using them on a Roden SPAD - when I get one.
