Here are two books that I have in my collection that are well worth investing in!
The Master Scratch Builders by John Alcorn is very informative and well worth the price! I have a hard back copy that I bought many years ago.

Scratch Built! buy John Alcorn again, but also with Peter Cooke and George Lee. More of a companion to the above, but still well worth it if you can get hold of a copy.
