After 9 years since I built the late Fee, I am back to this amazing model of the amazing aircraft. This time I plan to build the earliest possible version, with 120hp engine, two-bladed propeller, front wheel and balcony gun mount.
I have started with the nacelle. First I cut the pilot rear plate in two and glued the halves to the nacelle halves, thus will be able to fill efficiently the seams along the cockpit rim before assembly. The treatment of the vertical joint will be much easier, feasible after the interior is assembled and painted.
Since it is the early version with pilot lockers, without the aux tank, I have also removed the fuel lines, not only from the pilot front panel but also from the truss sides. Besides this, 50+ eyelets for the interior righing have been added.

I love the FE.2 series. Can’t wait to see you get stuck in. :D
-
Well, this will certainly be a treat, Sir.

50+ eyelets for the interior righing have been added.
New 500+ program ;D

Lovely work on the Fee, Prze!
9 years??? Where does the time go?? :o
Cheers,
Bob

Great start with interior work.
Ciao
Giuseppe

Off to an excellent start with the airbrush and detail painting :)
Terri

Lovely to see another Fee being built. There is something about this aircraft which makes it interesting - even though aesthetically it left quite a lot to be desired.
Stephen.
-
Very nice variations between different wood tones! Great work overall.
/Fredrik
-
Great start there Prze, looking forward to this. Regards, Pete in RI
-
Thank you everyone.
More progress on the innards. Two turnbuckles in the front bays added, two more to come. Also the missing control levers and cables for the throttle and spark advance added. Basically ready for the assembly.

Great start Prze - I really like the way you have figured out how to tackle that impossible seam in the cockpit. That's great advice for when I start my late Fe2b. I really like your woodgrain on everything, and the instrument panel is spectacular.
Cheers,
Gary
-
very nice woodgrain and interior detailing, Przemol. Thinking 'outside of the box' helps overcome difficult situations (the seam).
-
Wiring, IP, and painting are top notch and it is looking great!
RAGIII
-
Thank you, my friends.
Putting the bits together, dryfitting inside the nacelle. All looks fine, now for the seat belts and 26 internal rigging lines and it will be ready to be closed for good. And then the final touch of the seam behind the pilot 😉

that's a really nice looking build, looking forward to seeing the rest 8)

Thank you, I am glad you like this Fee.
The internal rigging and seatbelts added, the nacelle buttoned up.

Amazing work, Przemo! It looks just beautiful! I couldn't even consider doing internal rigging like that - yet you make it look so easy! I will follow carefully, and maybe learn a little more! Regards, Marc.
-
Amazing work as always Przemol! Looks great closed up!
RAGIII
-
That does look awesome closed up :)
Terri
-
WOW!
/Fredrik
-
shame to close it up really as the interior is superb, looks like most of it will still be on show though.
-
Superb looking cockpit, PrzemoL!
Love it!
vB ;)
-
Thank you, everyone.
Now with the seam behind the pilot repaired the interior is complete
(https://i.ibb.co/yhX6r0M/20201116-213525.jpg)
And now the focus is on early 120hp Beardmore. The mounts for the electric fairleads are modified to be 3-point instead of 2-point. I have also modified the joint position between the part protruding from magneto assembly and the part attached to the cylinder blocks. The cylinder blocks have horrible joint to be filled at the front and the rear, this is now treated, too.
The carbs and intake manifolds piece is enhanced, the air inlets drilled out, the massive control rod between the carbs replaced with a thinner wire piece, also the inlets of the missing water pipes to the carbs added, also some spurious plastic between the intake and the breather pipes passing one by another was remived with a sharp knife tip.
Taurus nuts for the intake manifolds drilled out.
And some treatment of mould push rod marks as well as some bits of control mechanism on the interior sides of cooling covers done.
-
The interior looks great. Excellent woodgrain. I'm sure the detailing on the engine will enhance it immensely.
Seems like the radiator wouldn't get much air back there.
-

Thanks.
And indeed, the air access to the ŕadiator here was limited and that is why for the late 160hp Beardmore additional cooling openings were drilled in that plywood wall behind the pilot seat.
-
Great start on the engine details Przemol! The way you handled blending in that rear bulkhead seam is incredible! Simply Brilliant work.
RAGIII
-
The bulkhead (and cockpit area) worked out beautifully, Prze! Love it.
vB ;)
-
Amazing job on one of the best looking airplanes ever!
Andreas
-
Nice job on the seam on the interior Prez! The engine components treatment you are giving them will pay off as the engine is right there and very exposed. The copper color too is a real eye catcher and all that detail will really shine.
-
Thank you for watching and commenting.
And in the recent days I worked on the Beardmore, also adding some missing instalations. Now it is basically ready to be weathered, installed and have attached a few controls.

Brilliant Modeling!
RAGIII
-
Sensational :o
I was not able to put more details on my 1/16 engine. Perfectly done!
The cockpit is also best in class, that will be a fantastic model.
Cheers,
Frank
-
Beautiful engine :) Love those details!
Terri
-
Incredible! What a jewel that engine is.
-
That is one stunning looking engine PrzemoL!
Can you tell us a little bit about the painting process?
Willem
-
as engines go that ones a bit of stunner, looking forward to seeing more
-
Thank you for the kind comments.
That is one stunning looking engine PrzemoL!
Can you tell us a little bit about the painting process?
Willem
The main bits were airbrushed before assembly in main colours. Some bits required additional touches with secondary colours, these were done with 00 brush.
I have used Vallejo acrylics. From Metal Color: copper, dark aluminium for steel, duraluminium for aluminium. The other colours are from Model Color: brass, black, brown for cable leads, sand for cables, khaki green for added water lines to he carbs.
That engine is spectacular. What do you use for the wiring.
I prefer soldering wire, I have it in 0.22, 0.25, 0.38 and 0.56mm thickness.
-
What a lovely engine, Przemo! Your detailing and colour selection is superb! Regards, Marc.
-
As the others have said, beautiful engine. The smooth paint really brings a realistic appearance.
-
Wow amazing engine!
-
Great work on your engine, when going to build mine this will be reference and aim. Thank you for sharing.
Ciao

Thanks, again, for cheering.
The nacelle is slowly taking shape. Assembly, decaling, wash... What a fun this kit is!

Looking good Prze !
I really like the shade you chosen for the grey , well done .
Terri
-
The entire nacelle with engine included is simply a stunning example of the results we all strive for Prze, and I'm in awe of the standard of modelling you've presented here once again. A sheer pleasure to follow your progress!
Cheers,
Lance
-
Truly stunning piece of modelling.
Well done, Przemol ;)
vB
-
I really like this build and especially the paintjob. That engine looks fantastic!
-
Thank you, everyone. I am really glad you like my build. Well, now the nacelle is basically ready, only the cabane struts, elevator control horns and the gun balcony are missing. And possibly some more dirt on the wheels. But these will come later, now for the wings and struts...

Great stuff ! :)
Terri

that looks amazing 8)

Superb modeling, Przemol. Looking gorgeous.
-
Thank you very much.
And the break in the updates does not mean I left this project. Simply the work on my Fee entered the little spectacular but very essential phase of parts cleaning and installing the rigging eyelets. Exactly 170 of them in the wings, tail, booms and nacelle. Now they need to be tested for pull-out. Also the elevator control horns with cable pieces to the turnbuckles were recently added.

-
That is a lot of rigging eyelets !
Terri
-
The eyelets look great and neatly placed! Did they come with the kit or are they aftermarket?
Willem
-
Right, Terri. This beast has well over 200 lines all together, yet some have the plastic eyelets in the plastic kit parts, some others as the control horn siffeners do not require them at all. And the interior is already rigged :-)
Willem, the eyelets are from Bob Booth - the famous Bob's Buckles - great stuff, very much recommended.
-
A master class, Przemol!
Could I ask how you terminate the rigging line on the turnbuckles as it looks true to scale, and what line are you using?
David
-
Thanks, David.
I use the classical method with tubes, only that they are roughly 0.5-0.7mm long sections of amber polyimide tubing which I cut with old fashioned shaving razor. The lines are black 0.12 and 0.16mm monofilament fishing lines.
-
That is a Bunch of anchors! The tai rigging looks like it will be your usual awesome job!
RAGIII
-
Very neat work on the anchors Prze, and the control line connections as well. I remember this stage of the Build when I did the "Fee", a daunting task that, by the end, really tested my patience! It just seemed it would never end! Nicely done!
Cheers,
Lance
-
wow, Przemek it is amazing!
-
Your usual amazing and spectacular work, Przemo! Love it! Regards, Marc
-
Thank you.
Some more fun with colours. Wooden struts and undersides done. The tail booms still lack the wrap bands, decalling will care for it.

You have once again turned a Tangled Mass of wires into beautifully rigged booms! Stunning work as always!
RAGIII

I am in awe of your rigging skills, Przemo! While the rest of us tremble in fear, you jump in and do wonders with wires! Lovely! Regards, Marc.
-
So , have you gone crossed eyed yet ?
Very promising Prze :)
Alexis

Lovely Prze,
Is it all EZ Line? The painting is superb!
Guy
-
Thank you, Lady and Gentlemen.
So , have you gone crossed eyed yet ?
Alexis
Luckily not, I am ready for another rigging adventure. ;)
Is it all EZ Line?
Guy
No, it is not, I do not use EZ Line, because I find it cumbersome to attatch its ends. It is a blackish fishing line, 0.16 mm for the rigging and 0.12 mm for the control wires.
And my busy Saturday brought me, wire after wire, bit after bit to the stage when only propeller is missing. I have to wait a couple of days for the veneer to carve it. Probably I will temporarily put on the kit propeller but this tomorrow.

Ah, yes, thanks Prze,
I’m not a fan of EZ line either. Just wondering how you’ve tensioned/ attached the line though? You don’t seem to have tubing for the line to loop through as per Bob’s Buckles?

Ps it looks splendid!

Thank you everyone. Your kind comments are very much appreciated.

I cut the polyimide tubing to very short sections, less than 1mm long. This is the idea, not to have them too much visible, unlike the brass tubes tend to be.

What a great model created by your perfect craftmanship (and the good WNW base)! Fantastic!

Anchor points are Bob's Buckles eyelets. The tubing is of 0.0126in internal diameter. I am using quite a good storage I managed to purchase a couple of years ago, when it was available at Amazon. Now it is only available at some US sites with horrendous postage costs to Europe... Yet I am ocassionally checking the internet hoping to find it available again.

Omg wow.
The WNW Fe is on my build list for the end of this year. If it’s half as good I’ll be happy!
I wish I could sub contract out the rigging though ;)

Yes, all metalic colours are from Vallejo Metal Color series.

It seems the wait for the veneer will be longer than I expected. So I decided to take photos and prepare the final (almost) gallery. A couple of shots here, more in the other section.

And the final touch - the Bolton Paul propeller carved from the veneer layers - the very much recommended product by cooperation of KoTeBi and Mr.Decal. Then painted with a mix of Minitaire clear brown and clear golden yellow. The boss plates from spare box, the decal is from the WNW kit.

Not much spectacular??? I think it's a real spectacular prop.
