Once the Pfalz is off the bench the Camel will be more underway there will be some more room on the bench . I don't feel like doing anything WW 2 yet and it has been a while since my last 32 scale build so ......
Roden's DH-2 is the subject and few goodies to go with it .
-
:)
-
Great idea Terri. Show people the Roden DH2 can build into a very appealing model.
Des made the Roden kit some years back and a detailed build log is still on his website, which we maintain as a modelling resource and memorial to him.
https://www.ww1aircraftmodels.com/page12.html
Enjoy your build and please keep us posted with your progress.
cheers

Nice choice for the engine. I like Vector's stuff.
-
Great project, Ma'am.
This model tempted me towards the large scale when it first came out. It's a great old aeroplane. Popular histories often present it as a 'response' to the Fokker Eindekker, but the prototype was on combat trials in July of 1915, before the Fokker was in any wide or successful operation.
I have a couple of Eduard kits in 1/72 that are beginning to glare accusingly from the shelves....
-
Welcome to the pusher club Terri - sometimes it gets a bit lonely here - well someone has got to keep the spirit alive!
I will be following with great interest - this one is right up my street. I have the old and not very accurate Revell kit in my collection which I made over 40 years ago! Yours will be very much better I am sure.
Stephen.
-
Nice choice Terri. Eduard and HGW make nice PE sets, Brian Fawcett and Proper Plane do props, Taurus does a VERY nice engine and pulsometer, Aviattic do nice rib tapes and fabric decals, Photo etch, an accurate rudder and cowling, gaspatch for turnbuckles and m/g. Airscale do nice instrument faces, CSM for a pilot figure. If you need any references or have questions on details just ask. Regards, Pete in RI ps, the WNW website has a bunch of good ref photos.
-
Outstanding choice Terri! I am following along of course!
RAGIII
-
Wow, your next project on the horizon!
A lot of rigging in front of us ;)
A DH-2 is properly rigged when a mechanic releases a bird in the middle and it doesn't find it's way out 8)
Are the struts to the rear stable on the Roden kit? On my 1/48 Stripdown I replaced them by brass pipes.
Cheers,
Frank
-
Oh, yeah Terri! This will be awesome. Can't wait for you to start this one.
Dan ;)
-
Hi guys !
Really glad to have you kind folks tag along on this as it develops on it's undertaking .
Dave , I believe all models can be built into something really special no matter who the manufacture is . It all lies in the skills of the modeller ;)
Ken , I also like Vectors products but I mostly use them for my WW 2 ( mustangs ) builds . First time trying out their WW1 stuff .
Well OM you know you will have to pull one out of the stash . I have Eduards 48 scale kit but Roden won the coin toss .
Hey Stephen , not my first pusher that would be my FE-8 . This is my second one now and I do hope it turns out just as well as my last one .
Hi Euro , yes I know there is a fair amount on the market , but I got what I needed for the extras ,( empty pockets ) anything else that gets added I can added that detail my self . Thanks you for the offer on ref's ...you might have a few questions coming your way ;)
Wouldn't be the same with out Rick ;)
Frank , ja there is a lot of rigging but I'm up for the challenge . I'm not sure about the booms yet but from online builds they seem to do the trick ...only time will tell
Hey Dan , you made it ! ;)
Terri
-
Great choice Terri, I'll be following along on this one.
Wrong scale though, but we can forgive you that one! ;)
Ian
-
That's an easy fix Ian , just reduce the resolution on your computer screen to bring it into scale ;)
Glad to have you tagging along :)
Terri
-
Hi Terri:
Great choice. I will be tagging along to watch you "Pull a Rabbit out of your hat"! It's a neat airplane, the rigging has always put me off but maybe it's time. I know you will do an outstanding job on this old Chestnut. You go Girl!
-
I've got a Dh.2 somewhere, not Rodens version though... I'll follow with the same great interest that I always have in your builds.
/Fredrik
-
My favourite WWI subject, will follow with interest.
Ciao
Giuseppe
-
Lovely subject, Terri! Lots of extras there... ambitious project but you will handle it easily!
-
Thanks guys ;D
Terri
-
Great stuff! ;D
-
Thanks Daz ,
Well we are under way ! Cockpit parts are freed and ready for clean up . But first the inside of the fuselage will get my attention and address the injection pin marks . The rigging will also get replaced as well . The frame will remain I'm not replacing this .
-
:)
Terri
-
Terri,
Those are some ugly ejection pin marks. Good to see this one under way.
Kevin
-
Yup , clean up of these will take a bit of time :o
Terri
-
Great to see you start on this one Terri! The ejection pins are indeed prominent ::)
RAGIII
-
That has now been fixed with just a bit of touch up in a few corners . Also made start on cleaning up the rest of the cockpit parts and getting them ready for paint . Will have some progress on that soon .
Terri
-
Really pleased to see you under way on this one Terri. I will be keeping a close eye on this for reasons which I do not need to explain to you...!
Stephen.
-
Looking good so far, Terri. Not the easiest of kits, but you don't choose those, do you? Power to your modelling arm! Regards, Marc.
-
Well I hope you don't your eye too close , instructions for the glue and some tools say keep away from eyes ;) Thanks Stephen
Marc , I do like like challenge :)
Not much progress but the CDL is sprayed and once dry this will be masked off for the painting of the frame . There is a ruff texture from removing the detail but it kind of gives the fabric texture .
The black basing for the metal coats on the engine is also sprayed , this needs to dry for a few days to fully cure , but lots to do in the mean time .
-
:)
-
Good Start Terri! I am looking forward to your progress!
RAGIII
-
Nice to see this under way Terri - it will be a real pleasure to see another pusher being built on this site. There are not nearly enough IMO!
Stephen.
-
Thank you Rick and Stephen ,
With it being a busy day I still managed too get some bench time in getting some masking done . I can start the wood tones now .
Terri
-
That's great work dealing with the interior walls, Terri.
-
Nice masking job T! Looking forward to the Wood finish 😎
RAGIII
-
Thanks Oldman and Rick :)
Only progress made today was spraying the base coat for the wood :o
Terri
-
Good progress there Terri. On the boom front, the kit parts work just fine and stiffen up nicely when rigged. Just be careful to have secure anchor points and adjust the tension to keep them straight. Regards, Pete in RI
-
Thanks Pete and for the tip on the booms . :)
The framing and some other bits have the rest of the wood effect applied . For the grain I used pencil crayons with a over coat of clear yellow/orange mixed 60/40 . This can get masked off now and the grey is next .
Terri
-
The wood portions look awesome Terri. I see the wicker seat, is that resin or scratch? Sorry if you already mentioned this and I missed it ;D
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick ,
No the seat is not made by my hands , it's a resin seat made by Barracude :) It's an item which I took the easy path !
Terri
-
The masking Gods were kind to me !
Got the grey sprayed and the masking removed to reveal a excellent masking job with no paint lifting !!! Now it just needs a wash and a sealing coat and the details can start being added
Terri
-
Great job with the masking! The contrasts between grey, wood and linen looks good.
/Fredrik
-
Looks awesome Terri but a bit clean for MY taste 8) Castor Oil everywhere ;D Seriously your usual gorgeous painting T!
RAGIII
-
More inspiration for me, curtesy of Terri.
Great job with the masking.
Kevin
-
But , but I haven't started the weathering yet Rick ;) Thanks Rick . It won't be clean for very long ;) ;) ;)
Thanks Kevin :)
While waiting for stuff to dry on the Camel I made a start on some of the details . For the fuel tank I added a rolled edge with some scrap rod stock and used the same for the piping on the seat cushion . The cushion is from kit with a bit of trimming to get to fit the seat . Also fashioned up heel plates out of scraps and canniblized a Roden SE5a control column for the lever me bob .
Terri
-
Outstanding work as usual Terri. This kit has always been in my "short stack"
Looking forward to future updates.
Russ
-
Thanks Russ , glad to have you following a long :)
Terri
-
Have not dropped by recently Terri - I need to because this is one of the more important current builds...... I really like the cockpit interior and other details - in this scale you really can add detail which will be seen on the completed model.
Stephen.
-
Thanks Stephen , but I don't think this build is important , nothing special really . I also know that you have a thing for pusher aircraft so .. ;)
Made a bit of progress on the beast today , The right side frame rigging is replaced and for this I used mono line and brass tube for turnbuckles . Small holes were drilled all the way through . On the other side it now has a few whiskers which will need trimming . I'm replacing the stitching with PE items . I have some in 48 scale which match close to Rodens detail . Seat rail/frame is fixed in place and that's about it other then a bit of painting .
Terri
-
Great progress, Terri. I have a thing for pushers too. Don't tell anyone...
Dan ;)
-
yes,Terri, you are correct. My apologies. Gaspatch tend to be overscale. For most 1/32 kits turnbuckles use the 1/48 versions. BUT! as always, check photo's, as TB's did vary in size. Regards, Pete in RI. Ps, Gaspatch are my go-to supplier of turnbuckles, Costas does a REALLY good job.
-
Nice interior work, colors look great. Looking forward for new updates.
Ciao
Giuseppe
-
Dan , your secret is safe with all of us ! ..Okay maybe not all of us per-say , some will sing song ;)
Pete , you lost me here , don't recall mentioning Gaspatch turnbuckles so I'm not sure what I'm correct about ? ! Now take into account that several times through out the day blonde moments do occur ;) But yes , Gaspatch does some really nice work in resin .
Thanks Giuseppe :)
Terri
-
Oops!, sorry, that reply should have been over on Britmodeller lolol Just having a senior moment, don't mind me.
-
Looks great, Terri!
-
Thanks Oldman ,
Looking at the rudder bar and the cables the rear support for the pulleys needs some work . The pulley themselves are more squared then round . So out comes the punch and I now how some disc for new ones . There is also two that are missing on the rear part of the cross member( seat frame ) , theses will get added as well .
Terri
-
I really like the wrinkled fabric T. How did you do that? Nice work on the Pulleys!
RAGIII
-
One of the disadvantages of working in the larger scales is that tiny details such as the pulleys might be visible on the completed model. At least in the True Scale that is not a problem! And in larger scales strip - down is the answer!!!!
Stephen.
-
Thanks Rick and Stephen ,
Rick , when I was removing the detail I notice that the tools marks gave the fabric areas a dis-stress look so I ran with it . I'm really not sure what these bits are called ( I got this from my Dad many moons ago ) but I found them to be perfeck for removing detail where sanding isn't an option .
Once the detail was removed I used different sizes and ran it over the surface in a zigg zagg pattern going in both directions left to right , top to bottom . And ran some Tamiya thin all over to level it off .
Stephen , yeah ...I'm not going the cut path , at least in 32 scale ....now 48 scale ...hummmmm ;)
And here is what the pulleys look like . 16 bits of plastic to make these . There is a spacer ii between each disc with a grant line bolt head on top .
Terri
-
:)
-
Pulleys look superb Terri!
RAGIII
-
Lovely work Terri. oh, and pulleys are necessary in 1:72 too - my next job on the FE8!
Ian
-
Wow!! Very nice!! Those pullies look great and in 1/48, too. How small of a punch set do you have?
-
I have always known those tools as "cherry grinders". Regards, Pete in RI
-
Terri, I like the wood and linen of your interior, really nice!
...I'm not going the cut path , at least in 32 scale ....now 48 scale ...hummmmm ;)
I can really recommend the D.H.2 as Stripdown in 1/48 made by Eduard, if you like to go that way. That is a fantastic kit!
Showed mine here in the forum: https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=8552
There is also a build report, but only in german (deepl.com may help with a good translation).
Cheers,
Frank
-
Thanks guys , this will take me some time , in rush to get her done .
Frank , thanks for link on the build report but the translation bit ...nicht erforderlich ;)
Terri
-
That's awfully fine work, Terri.
-
That's awfully fine work, Terri.
;)
Terri
-
Terri,
Very impressive project my old friend. No doubt you'll do this kit justice. Keep up the excellence.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Hi Gregory ,
Nice to hear from you my friend and thanks :)
Terri
-
Only work done on the pusher this weekend was finish spraying the metal coats on the engine parts . For the crank case I used Vallejo Metal Coat Alum and for the cylinders they were spray dark alum .
Terri
-
Even small steps take us towards the finish line. Nice metallic finish!
/Fredrik
-
Thanks Fredrik ,
That is plan , I'm in no hurry to get her done :)
Terri
-
Those cylinders look terrific Terri!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick , should have some more progress soon , I started the rigging on the left fuselage side toady .
Terri
-
Ooooooo...nice cooling fins! Looks great as always, Terri!
Pushy Dan
-
Thanks pushy Dan !
Today I focused on spending some time on this kite and finished off the interior rigging for the left side of the fuselage .
The rudder bar got some details added and is fixed in place . Working on the instruments now . What slowed me down on this was decals , not something I really have in my spare box . So most of them are left overs from building WNW Se5a . The compass is from a set I got from Des many years ago . Even though that it is a German one it will work for what I need , more on these items later . Any way this is where I stand now .
Terri
-
Good to see real progress on this one Terri - it is a pusher after all!
Stephen.
-
Thanks Stephen !
Made a bit more progress with the smaller details and I'm just about ready to start fixing the smaller items in place . With a few more details to make . It was an enjoyable afternoon in front of the bench ...no stress ! ;)
Terri
-
Nice progress, Terri.
What do you think of the Vector engine?
-
The interior bracing rigging is a nice touch Terri, and very visible in this design. Lovely work!
Cheers,
Lance
-
The bracing wires look perfect Terri! Well Done :D
RAGIII
-
Thanks Ken , Lance and Rick for following long and support :)
Ken , it's not the first time I have used their engines and other resin sets . The detail is very fine and crisp , clean up is easy and quick . But the resin is hard , not soft like other manufactures so a bit more sanding is needed . With this engine one detail is missing and that's the inicition ring for the spark plug leads . I will have to make this myself .
Terri
-
Progress is starting to really take shape in the pit now . I replace the molded piping , or what was of it with copper wire . Still working on the seat , but this can get installed later during the build . I just need to spray a satin coat and the halves can get glued together .
Terri
-
:)
-
:)
-
Outstanding interior work Terri! The IP, wood tones, and bracing wires look Great!
RAGIII
-
Some amazing work going on here, Terri. Great detailing, clean and neat and wood tones to die for... Love the instruments too, a great addition.... Regards, Marc.
-
Thanks Rick and Marc , I should have the halves fixed together detail and will be able to start with the fuselage details :)
Terri
-
Halves are now joined and drying . Did not get an over good fit and will need some putty , but it's not bad besides the fuselage will get violated with a sanding sand stick for up coming detailing .
Engine is together and ready for further detailing and a few hours spend on correcting the mis-match molding on the blades with still clean up to do .
Terri
-
:)
-
Looks awesome closed up. As good as any WNW build I have seen Terri! The engine and prop are looking great!
RAGIII
-
Terri,
The Roden engine looks great. Keep up the great work.
Kevin
-
Great looking interior, Terri!
-
Thanks guys ! Today will be getting the seems taken care off and make a start on the details .
Kevin , this isn't the kit engine . I pick up Vectors resin one ;)
Terri
-
Coming along very nicely Terri, that interior looks really good!
Ian
-
Thanks Ian , I made a little progress with sanding down the filled arears and test fitting the lower wing , will have more up-dates on this later .
Terri
-
This one is coming on well Terri. The new engine is a good idea.
Stephen.
-
Very nice that you do not miss anything when you are away - you can still read about it.
Very nice progress in the meantime! And many of your nice details are still visible in the open cockpit of this type.
Cheers,
Frank
-
Thanks Stephen and Frank ,
A little bit of sanding , very little sanding and I have a perfect fit ! The attention was needed on the fuselage grooves where the wing spar sets . With this out of the way I can start on the details for the fuselage and not worry about damaging those details for the test fitting .
Terri
-
:)
-
Nice updates, I like the completed cockpit so highly realistic.
Ciao
Giuseppe
-
Some awesome progress, Terri! That wing to fuselage joint looks good - Roden look like they got it spot on! Regards, Marc.
-
Thanks guys , will have some progress in a few days :)
Terri
-
Super work on the wing / Fuselage join Terri! I am, as always, looking forward to your progress!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick , but I must say it will be a few more days before I have more progress to report . Going to spend some time on the Pfalz and the Nieuport tripe . I did find the PE I was looking for so there some progress was made behind the camera ;)
Terri
-
This looks better with every update Terri Good to see another pusher being built - you cannot have to many pushers!
Stephen.
-
Hi Stephen ,
Haven't done anymore in the lines of progress but it is forth coming . My pusher collection is growing so more will be built in the future . Thanks for following along :)
Terri
-
It’s looking brilliant. The cockpit details are tremendous. I especially like the way you have done the seatbelts.
-
I don't know what I can add to what others have said, only that I'm glad we have photos of the nacelle interior now that it's closed up. I have to remember that rigging method for when I get my own DH.2!
-
Thanks guys :)
William , not sure what you mean by the seat belts . I haven't even painted them yet and the seat is still a work in progress . But I will take the complement ;)
Hey Zac , it is my lazy man way of doing the rigging ;)
Terri
-
Details on the fuselage are starting to get replaced ...slowly !
Terri
-
:)
-
That looks really impressive Terri, a big improvement!
Ian
-
William , not sure what you mean by the seat belts . I haven't even painted them yet and the seat is still a work in progress . But I will take the complement ;)
Oops, my first senior's moment. :-[ It's looking fab though. Such a treat to see a DH-2 coming together. I love that little bus!
-
Thanks Ian :)
I go through those during day from time to time William , your not alone ;)
The after noon made a nice relaxing day and I got a bit further ahead . The lacing is added and the lifting of one of the pieces is fixed now . ( second photo ) , ammo bins in place and I also added the rolled edge on the forward part of the cockpit opening and I removed the plate on the nose . I like the openiness .
Terri
-
:)
-
Very nice progress, Terri. It looks like you didn't waste your Saturday. What might Sunday have in store?
Kevin
-
Hi Kevin ,
Well I'm not sure what Sunday will have in store , I'm taking it one day at a time at the moment . Might turn my attention back to the Pfalz now that I have the same details work out .
Terri
-
Outstanding work Terri! With the stitching added it really looks the part for sure!
RAGIII
-
Lovely work, there, Terri, that is great detailing and an enjoyable thread to follow! Regards, Marc.
-
Thanks Rick and Mark 8)
Terri
-
That stitching looks great. Was it an aftermarket part?
-
Thanks Ken ,
It is after market by Eduard and is 48 scale . ;)
Terri
-
Haven't forgotten about this one , I don't have room on the bunch so I will set this aside until one of the 48 builds are done and off the bench , then I will be back on this one .
Terri
-
Follow Rick's fantastic build which has been a great inspiration , this one is back on the bench as well
Alexis
-
Outstanding, I ordered the Roden DH2 kit a week ago, should be here soon! I will be watching your build Alexis with great interest.

Looking forward to seeing this real aeroplane being restarted - I know it will be first class.
Stephen.

Outstanding work on your DH2 nacelle, Alexis.
Look forward to seeing more progress in due course.

Thanks guys , went through the box and nothing is missing in regards to parts . That is always a plus !
Will have some progress soon
Alexis

Go for it Alexis! And Happy Christmas! Marc
-
Some of the small items which I will be making a start on with clean up and details .
Alexis
-
Great to see some progress Alexis!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick !
Alexis
-
I missed this one being restrted - good news Alexis. I hope you finish this soon as it is an important type
-
Thanks Stephen ,
Lot's of time , still a fair amount of stuff still left to do . Speaking of which I decided to spend some time on this one by continuing working on some of the smaller details .
The alex bar I replaced with rod , saves time on cleaning up the kit one I punched new disc , drilled them out and slide them in place . Much better now methinks . Not sure what was going on with the prop and I should have taken a picture of it first , but I didn't . The back side need some filling in , I punched a few disc glued them in place filling the gaps with tamiya white putty . Once this is dried sanding will take a bit . Also punched disc for the prop bosses front and back and that as far as I got so far .
Alexis
-
:)
-
Good to see you back on this one again, Alexis.
This Roden kit is really pretty decent.
Regards
Dave
-
I first thought the 'alex' bar had something to do with your name, but then I figured out you meant axle. ;D
Nice fixes.
-
Godd progress Alexis. Certainly moving in the right direction.
Stephen.
-
Great progress, Alexis
I first thought the 'alex' bar had something to do with your name, but then I figured out you meant axle. ;D
I was a bit confused too! ;D

Glad to see you progressing with this Alexis.
WD

Thank you so much guys , really means a lot to me :)
Been rather busy of late and haven't had much of a chance to sit in front of the work bench . I do volunteer counselling on a support site so some of my spare time goes to helping others .
I did manage to get a bit of progress made , moving forward is always a positive . The start of replacing the prop boss is under way . I punched disc out of .15mm sheet for the front and back plates . Brass bolts are used the front and on the back side I will use plastic instead . The center still needs a few bits , but it is getting there . The landing gear is glued up as well waiting for further detailing .
I filled in the back side of the prop , but my shaping skills are to be desired so it will have to do . Not a thumbs up or thumbs down so I'm happy .
Alexis
-
:) Me back side ! ;)
-
And check out those legs , nice hey ! :)
-
Alexis,
This is sure to be a great build once all these sub-assemblies join up.
I always enjoy your updates.
Kevin
-
The prop and gear look excellent Alexis!
RAGIII

Alexis,
You have far more patience than me. Can I borrow some? Very nice cleanup and detail work.

Been rather busy of late and haven't had much of a chance to sit in front of the work bench . I do volunteer counselling on a support site so some of my spare time goes to helping others .
What kind of excuse is that? We want models! ;D Just kidding, as someone who has spent much of the last year tackling his own issues I can't put into words how valuable kind-hearted folk such as yourself really are.
-
This is real progress Alexis: the spinner parts look good yto me and most observers will never get close enough to scrutinise it anyway.
Really looking forward to seeing another real aeroplane being completed.
Stephen.
-
Very nice detail work, Alexis!
Cheers,
Frank
-
Fine work on the propeller and the u/c legs.
-
Great work so far Alexis.
WD
-
Thank-you all so very much for following along .
progress continues with finishing up the prop boss front and back , added spokes to the wheels , thinned the brackets on the wing tank , added .5mm hex rod for mounting bolts . Bungee cord on the landing gear was made with finishing line and I just couldn't help it , lower wing in glued to the fuselage , still a few details here and there but it's getting there . Work has also began on drilling out the booms for pins plus the tail assembly . . Slowly getting with perp all the sub assemblies for paint . Just the smaller details remain and the struts which will get pins as well .

That is really awesome work Alexis! Your DH2 is progressing well. I have a feeling that when you finish this one No One will be able to tell it is Roden and Not WNW!
RAGIII
-
Coming along nicely, Alexis. Great details.
-
Hi Alexis, that's a great progress!
I really love the fabric from the inner sides and the "stitches" which "hold" it from the outside. Really impressing what you make out of the Roden kit.
:)
-
I agree with the others this is impressive work
Alan.
-
Got to agree with tha above. A second pusher being completed is a joy to behold - and yours is going to be a real gem when finished.
Stephen.
-
I'm with them Alexis: beautiful work and she's shaping up to be a glorious example of this charismatic machine.
Also I'm happy with my decision to stick to 1/48 for my DH.2 ;D
-
Bit more was achieved today with adding hinge details to the tail planes and bolt heads cot form .5mm and .8mm hex rod . I will cut the tail skid free and add a brass pin in this location as well . I sure it will hold the weight but the plastic is soft which might cause sag issues in the future . Once that is wrap up this part will get assembled as a unit .
Alexis
-
Awesome updates Alexis. If you keep this up I might have to get the Roden DH2 ???
RAGIII

Hey! Deep cover detective work is my bag, Dan! ;D ;D

Thanks Rick , I believe you should pick up Rodens kit . Really enjoying the build so far and so far everything fits .
You know Dan , you were to be keeping that under wraps , just saying ! ;)
You spying on me Zac ? ! I have a pretty good air farce in the waiting you know ;D

Alexis,
After I finish up my MENG DR1 Fokker its onto this kit, looking really great Alexis and giving me some good ideas!
-
Shaping up very well indeed Alexis. Another pusher looks as though it is going to be completed soon - and another little gem from your bench.
Stephen.
-
Good progress here, Alexis.
Regarding the tail skid - the Roden plastic is soft but it has not sagged on mine. Where you will notice a bit of weakness is in the tail booms. I used Oshci standard elastic thread for cross bracing but then used nylon line for the wires that support the structure from the wings. The model still has a bit of 'bounce' in the tail but is definately strong enough to support the weight of the model.
Regards
Dave
-
Having to work under the cloak of night in a tiny shed , work continues with the tail assembly with rest of the rigging holes being drilled . The tiny mounting Locations for the rigging on the boom struts I removed and a small hole was drilled passing all the way threw . Haven't give much thought on how I will do the rigging , but at least the holes are there now rather then having to do this later . the rear strut is pin with brass rod and I ended up breaking part of the boom . The rudder is is glued the tail plane and once this is has set to dry over night test fitting on the booms will be next .
Thanks guys for tagging along with your continued support !
Alexis

Shaping up nicely, Alexis.
-
Looking fine Alexis! Your assembly sequence is interesting. I will have to keep that in mind if I tackle a Roden DH2 in the future!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Ken , my rear is shaping up nicely ! Thanks for noticing :) :) :)
Rick , in all honesty I haven't followed the instructions what so ever and all this I just winging it working with the space I have now ...I miss my huge work area . So I'm really not sure if this is the best way to go , time will time I guess !
Alexis
-
Always worth trying new ideas even if it is to prove that they do not work! I suspect that yours will work though Alexis - and given the conditions in which you are trying to build this I think that you are very successful.
Stephen.

I think what you have shown us so far looks beautiful, especially because your workspace is smaller than you were used to.

Even though I have a rather large area to work in, 99% of the action happens in a 2 foot square area!
-
Thank's guys . I will get the space back I had before in the future .
Pins have been added and test fitting underway , looks promising to me so far .
-
Looking very promising.
As for the tail boom rigging - did not you think about Bobs Buckles eyelets?
-
Really starting to take shape now. There's such a lot of work in a pusher but you're knocking it out of the park!
Sandy
-
Prez ,
Yes , that is what I will end up doing with booms , don't think ez-line type rigging will be the best for this so I will go with mono line for structural strength . So the more I dwell on this , just makes sense to me . Only other pusher I have done is a FE-8 in 48 scale .
Sandy , there is a fare bit work on pusher , different form what I have been accustom to building . Won't be my last one either . Have a few more in the stash for future practicing . Have few more details to work out , but I'm starting on the cab struts now so I can at least get the top wing fitted for more test fitting . I'm getting closer to the painting stage :)
Alexis
-
Pins have been added and test fitting underway , looks promising to me so far .
I agree, a true lattice-tail in the making. Great work Alexis!
-
Wonderful progress Alexis!
Those pushers are not the easiest ones! I hope the booms can withstand the rigging forces.
Only other pusher I have done is a FE-8 in 48 scale .
The very old Aeroclub one?
Cheers,
Frank

Frank ,
Lonestar vac kit , only fuselage halves used , rest scratch built

Don't recall Areoclub doing the Fe-8 in 48 scale
Alexis
-
Hi Alexis,
I think you are doing a great job on this difficult model. I found the build log of your build of the FE-8 on The Aerodrome ( http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46752&page=20 ), but I can't see any pictures. Could this be correct?
Willem
-
Thanks Willem , yes that is my build , almost 12 years ago now ! WOW . Sadly no the pic's are gone once they kick us modellers out , might be some still on Aeroscale , but I'm not sure there either . Been a long time since I have been on that site
Hope to have more progress this weekend ....
Alexis
-
Just found your build log of the FE-8 on Aeroscale. Sadly the pics are gone there too... :-\
Willem
-
AeroClub only produced a 1/48 Fe.2b
I wish Eduard or another kit manufacturer would produce an improved version.
-
Your DH2 is progressing Nicely Alexis! I hope I can finish mine before I am too embarrassed 8)
RAGIII
-
Sorry Willem that the pic's are gone there as well . Don't worry , i do have another kit in the stash and I will be doing another one ;)
Yes Berman , I have that kit in the stash and it would be nice to see other manufactures release one .
Rick , you will finish well before I do . ;)
Alexis
-
almost 12 years ago now ! WOW . Sadly no the pic's are gone once they kick us modellers out ,
Alexis
One of the worst things to happen to us WWI modelers, and something that played a role, IMHO, of the Aerodrome's slow downfall as a great forum and website.
Your build is looking great Alexis.
Just my two kopecks,
WD
-
Now we have a better place to hang and share our builds and the history :)
Bit more done today with the leather straps for the cowl . I used 1mm tamiya masking tape with PE parts from the spare box . Still a few more bits to add with round two , but this is the current state so far of my progress .
Alexis
-
Excellent work on the straps Alexis. That will make a huge difference!
RAGIII
-
Great progress Alexis. Your build is looking super :)
Cheers,
Gary
-
Beautiful detailed work al around Alexis. Very ingenious way of making the straps. They look great!
Willem
-
Thank you very much guys !
Willem , I use Tamiya masking tape for other details as well , it has a lot if uses .
Alexis
-
Good progress and good idea for using masking tape as straps, Alexis.
Regards
Dave
-
Very good progress overall, Alexis.
-
I too like those tape straps - they add that extra touch of realism.
Stephen.
-
I can only echo what the others have said - a small touch that adds a lot!
-
Ooh! Looking lovely, Alexis! And lots of tips for detailing! Quite a taxing but wonderful build! Real fun to watch the progress... Regards, Marc
-
Hey , thanks a lot guys for the kind comments in regards too my superior masking tape trick .
I knew watching Red Green would pay off one day ! lol ;D
Best education money can buy in my opinion !
The straps are finished off and I a start on the cab struts clean up and placing in brass pins .
-
:)
-
Other the gun , this is what is left for clean up and details
Alexis
-
Ah yes, that great philosopher Red Green.
If your women don't find you handsome, at least she'll find you handy!
Looking really good Alexis!
-
;D
Alexis . keep you stick on the ice , we're all in this together !
-
Nice touch on those straps. But, why did you install them before painting? I would do it afterwards to save efforts with masking.
-
Prze , have you ever known me to do things the easy way ? ;)
Alexis
-
Well it is nice to know that I am in good company Alexis: I too tend to jump first and think afterwards!
Stephen.
-
Prze , have you ever known me to do things the easy way ? ;)
;D ;D
-
Cup of tea and good company is what life is all about Stephen ;)
Thanks for the vote of confidence Zac ;D
Work on cleaning up and pinning the struts , micro holes are drilled in the struts for some self made buckles . Two struts remain the and work on the pulleys is up next ...
Alexis
And nooooo , i didn't glue the struts place ;)
-
Looking awesome Alexis
RAGIII
-
Today's focus was starting to make the pulleys .
Not much progress I know , but this took a few hours to get this done , true , some of that time was staring into space it was still liberating !
Alexis
-
Off to a good start, what brand disc punch do you utilize?
I just picked up the RP Toolz product, should arrive soon, hope it works good. There is something very relaxing about modeling, at least most the time ::)
-
Not much progress I know
As I said elsewhere, any progress is good progress :)
-
Thanks Grant ans Zac , much appreciated :)
Grant , the punches I use are a few different ones . The black set is Hasegawa tri tool and the other ones I got from my Dad many years ago they are a little dull which need to be sharped but I have no idea where to get that done .
Any disc which is smaller I just slice from evergreen rod stock
Alexis
-
The pulleys look great Alexis. Much better than My efforts!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick , appreciate you support and feedback :)
Alexis
-
Thanks Alexis for the insight on the punch sets.
I think that's pretty cool that you have some of your fathers modeling tools, you must got introduced into the hobby by him I assume.
Anyway, your DH2 is looking very nice!
-
No problem Grant , you are very welcome . My Dad never built models , these are punches he use as a heavy duty mechanic .
Not sure what for , but they are perfect for modeling . :)
Alexis
-
That's coming along nicely, Alexis -
Your pulleys look great (better than my effort) and is a shame that this kit did not include them.
Regards
Dave
-

Alexis
Gaskets, most likely. I remember punching holes in gasket material from Auto Mechanics Class back on high school...
-
Hi Alexis.
This is really looking great! and the pulleys came out very well.
I also have 2 sets of punches. I don't use them often, but the results are always good.
I have a regular set from 1 to 10 mm and a micro set of 22 punches from Master Tools (Trumpeter) ranging from 0.25 to 1.35 mm with 0.05 increments.
Willem
-
You could be right Jamie , thanks Willem for the kind comments . I don't over use my very either , but they are a very handy tool to have at ones disposal .
The left strut pulleys are done and I must say this was fiddly work , the top one is set at an angle or the best I could get with the pur photo's . Now on to the right side strut ...
-
:)
Alexis
-
Great progress Alexis.
WD
-
Indeed, this seems to be a very fiddly work.
But it looks good so far, and I am sure the end result will be worth the effort. :)
-
Super work on those details.
-
Thanks guys ,
I finished off the right strut this afternoon with a bit of quality time at the bench . This pic should be more clearer then the last bunch .
Alexis
-
Top notch, really like your work girl!
-
Thanks Grant !
Alexis
-
Those wheels on the struts look very fiddly indeed. Well done for getting such good results.
Stephen.
-
Awesome work on the pulleys Alexia!
RAGIII
-
Excellent work!
-
Thank you guys , very much appreciated :)
Alexis
-
Bit more done and a bit more started .
The gun is being hack up and will use bit's and bobs from the Tom Model Works set to dress up the gun . WNW gun breach is slightly better then Rodens .
The cockpit padding I wasn't to sure how to actually make this and after sending a bit of time on line , it looks like most DH-2 's had this hasmap applied so it doesn't need to be perfect . To build this up I'm using Mr surface 1000 which has gone pretty thick , but still thins with thinner . Once this is done the holding clips will be added . While the putty was out I gave the fabric corners a quick brush as well for a wrinkle effect or taunt appearance , it doesn't have to be pronounced but rather match how I did the effect on the inside of the fuselage .
The sheets which cover wear the tail booms meet the wings , nail detail was added as well . and that is all for this up-date .
Thanks for following along :)
Alexis
-
:)
-
:)
-
Your added details like the coaming and plates at the boom attachment point are really going to make this an awesome build!
RAGIII
PS: I Love your Wrinkles ::)
-
This is coming along very nicely Alexis.
WD
-
I like my wrinkles too Rick , I have work hard on them over the years ;)
Thanks WD for following along :)
Alexis
-
There certainly are some very nice extra details being added here Alexis.
Stephen.
-
I agree, these little bits will add up to a standout model!
-
Thanks Stephen and Zac ,
Will be getting some bench time in today , kick back relax and see if I can glue my hair to the bench again !
Alexis
-
Some lovely progress on the pusher, Alexis! The extra fine detailing makes this model very special... ATB, Marc
-
This is looking very special! Great work as usual!
Ian
-
Thanks Marc and Ian :)
My plan on hacking up the gun didn't fair well and I really made a mess of it all and had to junk the parts . Feeling rather down on myself on not paying attention to what I was doing . It was walk away and pout . Digging through the parts bin low and behold , a WNW replacement was found ! Yippie !!!! . Being a bit more careful this time around the gun is together and awaits paint . Even found the wind screen which I thought I lost . The barrel was cut off and replaced with brass tubing .
Another detail being added is the hinge detail for the ailerons , so far the lower left side is finished . Sitting there looking at the tail parts , hinge detail was added to these parts , leaving the wings rather plan in this area . The pins are a flexible brass wire so adjustments can be made latter on .
Alexis
-
:)
There will be more details for the wings to come ;)
-
Nice progress Alexis! That Lewis Gun is beautiful!
RAGIII
-
Nice work, Alexis. ;)
-
That Lewis looks quite the part, Alexis, very nice! I also like the brass pins - there is a hint of the hinges there - good detail. Regards, Marc
-
Wow Alexis - this one is coming along nicely. The detail and painting on the gun are superb, and the brass pins on the ailerons are a great help - I do that all the time myself.
Cheers,
Gary
-
That frankengun looks just like a bought one, congrats Alexis!
-
Thank you very kindly for the comments guys , but I will admit the gun isn't painted yet really , it will be repainted ;)
Rest of the slots are filed in , pins added and mounted and sitting starting my in the face was the landing gear leg , the pipe and brackets I also replaced with brass tube strips of brass and .05mm hex rod for the bolt heads . Other then the rigging holes I think she is ready for primer and the painting stage . Well close to that . Still have to add the faster for the cockpit padding and the moisture drain holes on the lower side of the wings trailing edge .
Alexis
-
;)
-
I had to go back and read through this thread since I haven't been here in a while. There's some very nice detailing and I reckon it's looking PD good!
-
Hey Gaz , thanks for taken the time to go back and read through the build log . Funny how something which started off with just basic detailing end up getting carried away . ;)
Alexis
-
Excellent work on the Ailerons and especially the Drain Pipe!
RAGIII
-
Obviously what you originally thought was going to be an OOB has developed a little! The drain pipe and gun are really superbly detailed - just what we have come to expect from your stable.
Stephen.

I echo Stephen's sentiments Alexis, I'm very pleased with your additions and improvements. All the extra work will make the finished model really pop!
-
Wow! - alot of good quality detail work on this one, Alexis -
Going to look great when finally completed
Regards
Dave
-
Your DH2 is really looking the part with all the extra details.
Making good progress Alexis, very nice.
-
Thanks guys , sorry for the late reply back , been busy of late and not much time at the bench . I have the drain holes done with only the rigging holes let , once that is done I will post pic's .
Alexis
-
Getting carried away?
I don't mind... :)
Willem
-
Well , maybe just a little Willem ;)
Finally finished of the detailing for the air frame with lacing for the cockpit combing which after looking at photo's online . This seems to be done in many various ways and this is method pleased me the most , few more PE bits and all the rigging holes drilled , I hope ! For the lacing I chain drilled holes going around the padding and used fishing line of the lacing
Primer is next , touch ups and off to paint which is under way with the belts getting a coat of Tamiya deck tan and the first wash off Tamiya clear yellow thinned with their lac thinner .
Alexis
-
:) Up-date starts on the end of last page
-
Earlier I mention a few more detail need to be added to the wings . Here is that detail . The struts mounting caps where missing in a few locates on the top wing . These was added with sliced rod stock to match .
Alexis
-
Nice work, Alexis. That's a detail I would never have thought to add. Strut Mounting caps.
-
It seems I've missed quite a bit of progress here. She's looking very good indeed, I love all the little additions you've made as together they make a big difference!
Ian
-
I agree with Ian - the additions you have made add realism to the model.
Stephen.
-
Lovely work Alexis, I can only echo what the others have said - little details that add up to a big difference.
-
Your added details will really kick this one up a notch!
Nice progress.
-
Thank you very much guys !
You are all the best !
Today was time to bring out that thing which blows paint on the surface add a bit of colour bringing this to life now .
Other sides of the struts need to be painted with Tamiya wooden deck tan , this also includes the struts on the tail booms (not pictured) but those are fully painted though . For the primer I used Tamiya light grey On the tail parts . Once this dries over night the rest will get sprayed tomorrow
Alexis
-
Some really great detailing work going into this one, Alexis -
Good progress
Regards
Dave
-
Lovely work on the seat, cushion, and belts Alexis. I am sure the struts and prop will look Fantastic when completely painted!
RAGIII
-
Glad to see some airbrushing happening, Aiexis.
-
What is that blowie thing Alexis? Paint all over the place? I trust a hairy stick myself - then only paint where I want it!
Everything is looking very good indeed - and getting ready for the final assembly stage.
Stephen.
-
Thanks guys !
Progress has been slow on the home front but I did get the rest of the parts primed and started the grain effect on the struts . For this I use pencil crayon . These will get sprayed Tamiya clear yellow with a touch of smoke added . Since I didn't want to spray that yet . I really wanted to paint the prop . I can't recall want I used at the time but so far this is the results . A bit more detail painting on the boss .
Alexis
-
:)
-
;)
-
Absolutely love that propeller! Great progress indeed.
Cheers,
Gary
-
Agreed, lovely, shiny propeller. It will be a fine addition to this model.
-
I agree, that propeller is just beautiful workmanship!
Your doing a stunning job, can't wait to see the completed DH2.
-
The prop is excellent Alexis! All is looking great!
RAGIII
-
Wow, that prop! Stunning work Alexis.
-
Here is the finished prop , I will spray a semi gloss to cut the shine down a bit , but that can wait . Has to fully dry first . Rest of the struts are sprayed and for the stain I used a mix of Tamiya clear yellow and orange with a few drops of smoke . While that was drying masking the tail is underway for shading . The rudder will get sprayed with the blue/white/red .
Alexis
-
Back side ..

;)

:)

Good progress again, Alexis - your prop is stunning!
Regards
Dave

The struts look great and I am looking forward to the results of that masking on the tail!
RAGIII

Very convincing wood effects on the prop and struts.
Stephen.
-
The struts look superb Alexis! I'm really enjoying each new update.
-
Thanks a bunch guys ! 8)
Masking the ribs and the edging is finished and set for pre-shading .Was going to mask of the wing spar on the under surface , but with the top being PC 10 not much light will pass through . For the top side I will use a really dark olive darb a long the tape edges and for the underside a darker grey .
Alexis
-
Excellent masking work and it should look great with your choice of colors!
RAGIII
-
Nice work Alexis! As I said elsewhere a kind forumite sent me the Eduard Weekend Edition 1/48 DH.2 so I'll now be going back through your lovely build and taking notes for later.
That masking job is fantastic. Will I be up to the task?...
-
Very nice progress Alexis! That will be a lovely DH2 at the end.
One question:
Is the axle construction closed on the underside of the Roden kit?
The Eduard one is symmetrical, you see the axle from both sides and I have the feeling that this is wrong. It is hardly shown on photos, but the drawing looks like that.
I think I will fix it.
Cheers,
Frank

I can't answer for Alexis on the Roden kit but WNW gave two versions. One was just an axle, No Fairing/wing. The other was as you guess, the axle only on top of the wing.
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick , Zac and Frank :)
Zac , I have an Eduard 48 scale and a bluemax one still kicking around waiting their glory in the light . One day I might build them . Or do a kit bash out of the two kits .
Frank , to answer your question the axle bar can be on it's own , or sits on top of a wing which has a grove were the axle bar rest . There is two spreader bars which run through the axle wing , so if you are not doing the wing don't forget about these . Here is a pic of the kit parts , note the axle bar has been replace with rod from the stash and details added .
-
Here is the results of the per-shading ...top and bottom . I used lacquer paint for this . The top olive darb is by Mr.color I believe . It is a set of four for doing olive darb vehicles Dark to light for shadowing and highlighting and fading . I used the darkest for the top side of the surfaces and side of the fuselage . For the underside I mix Tamyia German grey and a bit of black for the underside .
-
:)
Alexis

The pre shading looks terrific. It should give awesome results.

Now that is Funny!
RAGIII

You are welcome Frank and I do agree that it is assault and bullying ;) I wonder if there are rules regarding that .Hmmmmm
Rick , I started that kit about 25 years ago when I first got into WW 1 , it was flop and it meet it's faith in the trash bin . Would I attempt it it again .....Hell No !
Zac , it should make an interesting build . I prefer the wings from the Bluemax kit and Eduards fuselage is better . Not a fan on white metal struts , worst ever so again the Eduard kit will be handy but i would like to do it with the side fabric panels of the fuselage sides off , all exposed for a full scratch built interior . ;)
Bit of time was spent in front of bench , my time will be even shorter sitting there with a spaced out look on my face . Back to work tomorrow .
Top side is sprayed as well as the lower side . This will sit for a bit until it is fully dried before I mask and spray the grey on the fuselage top/bottom and nose . In between waiting for the paint to dry . Painting more of the details are under way . And this time the gun is repainted . I used Tamiya Dark Iron in their lacquer line . Wooden handle still need paint and the the gun mount which will be black with brass bolt details .

Beautiful work, Alexis! I'm enjoying every update.
I have the OLD Smer kit in My closet Alexis...if you really want a challenge ;D
Rick, that falls into the category of assault and bullying!
I for one like to spin the Merit/Smer kits around into seeing what one can do with one's skillset and aftermarket. I have their Avro 504k waiting for just an opportunity, and a year or three back built their (suprisingly nice) Tiger Moth...although I'm desperately keen to get my hands on the Airfix one!
-
Very fine results, both on large surfaces and on smaller bits.
-
Very nice paint job! The effort with the shading pays back.
Looks like you can start rigging soon :D
Cheers,
Frank
-
Hey , thanks a lot guys for the positive feed back :)
Having tonight off I fig it would be a good day getting some more airbrushing in on the main colours . For the grey I used Tamyia Neutral grey . For the booms the paint was thinned more then I normally do and was applied in layers . I used Tamiya Lac thinner in the yellow cap , it looks airbrushed ! .
for the rudder Tamiya's lacquer line of paint was used They thin better then acrylic meaning thinner coats . The back end of the fuselage the wooden frames need touch up . This was hard to mask , but this will be easy by hand .
Still a fair bit to go before the rigging the starts . Detail painting and decals need to be done , then weathering , clear coat , more weathering . With still having to make the rigging attachment points .

Me too, your DH.2's coming along beautifully! And good tip on the Tamiya colour for the grey, I have that colour so I'll make a note for my stashed DH.2.

Thanks Rick and Zac :)
Been working on the rest of the detailing painting and almost have the button up , once the next stage is ready will have some progress pic's
Alexis

Catching up Alexis: the painting looks super - and I see that you are suing a Barracuda saet - they really are very good indeed.
I do like your idea of building one of these with the interior visible - am looking forward to when you attempt it.
Stephen.

Thanks Stephen for the kind comment .
It won't be anytime soon before I start that build , but it is on my list for the future
Alexis

Excellent paintwork, Alexis.

Thanks Gaz ! :)
Alexis

Details are pretty much finished being painting and managed to get the decals on .
These are left over WNW decal for the stash . She is really starting to come together now with the finish line lingering in the near future . Not much left other then weathering and get her put together . Now the next thing for me to do is make all the attachment points for the rigging . I'm not even going try the flat wires .
Alexis
-
:)
-
;)

Awesome work Alexis! Your DH2 is looking great...Love the painting and decal work. As for Flat wires, I don't bother with any of mine. Not 100% accurate but a well rigged aircraft looks the part, flat wires or Not :-X

She's looking exquisite Alexis, excellent work!

WD

Thank all so very much for your continued support . Haven't had time of late . Work is keeping me busy . will have another update soon
Alexis
-
She is really starting to come together now with the finish line lingering in the near future .
May be your plane is finished before mine, but you started also much earlier.
I'm not even going try the flat wires .
WNW says mostly RAF wires, but I have seen detailed pictures from Jan 1918 of a DH-2 (serial ends with 084) with nearly no RAF wires and normal turnbuckles everywhere. May be this depends on the manufacturer.
So you are on the safe side 8)
Cheers,
Frank
-
Taking two steps back , my fault this time around and repairs have been made . When mounting the rudder/fin part to the tail plane , I broke it ! So glue makes cleaned up and every thing now has brass pins . Still need to fill the gap , but it is solid now .
A while back when cleaning up the engine parts I over sanded a bit and had to redo this all is good now and it's off to finishing the rest of the detail painting and adding the push rods
Seat is done other then a sealing coat and gluing it in place .
Alexis
-
:)
-
Nice repair work on the tail Alexis. It really looks great! The engine is coming along nicely also.
RAGIII
-
Good save Alexis, and I love your engine!
-
Alexis, I expected the same problem with the fin on my kit, especially as I moved it to a light angle according to the Datafile drawing. So luckily I inserted brass pins. 8)
I'm sure you are able to repair it with some paint.
Do you forgot the seat picture as we see the engine twice?
Cheers,
Frank
-
Hmmmm , not sure how that happen but ......
Thanks guys , yes paint touch up has been done and this area will get heavily weathered with oil staining to help hide it just a bit more . I'm still working on the weathering of parts . Think most of this should get done now rather then later .
Alexis
-
Lovely work so far Alexis. I'm glad you could solve the problem with the fin.
And that wicker seat looks stunning!
Willem

The seat with belts looks fantastic.

Good recovery on the tail Alexis. The seat and engine look super too - and will look even better on the model!

Not much progress , but still a step forward in the right direction none the less . First round of weathering is done on the landing gear and wheels . My attention is back on the engine with painting more of the details and a start with the weathering .

Nice blue on the wheels!
Do you added the drain pipe on the landing gear leg or was this part of the kit?
Cheers,

Very nice on all of these pieces Alexis.
WD

Those landing gear struts look like the real deal! Beautiful!
-
Awwww , you guys are fantastic , thanks for the continuing support 8)
Frank , I removed the kit details and added brass tubing with the brackets made from left over PE parts and added bolt details with sliced hex rod stock .

Landing gear struts , wheels, and engine are looking great Alexis!

Thanks Rick !

Catching up again Alexis. This continues to develop extremely well. I am much enjoying reading your thread - not least because it is a real aeroplane!
-
Sorry for the late reply Stephen , thank you for always sharing your words on encouragement .
It has been awhile since my last up date , then again time hasn't been spent in front of the bench either . With the week endend off and taking a few days off from the consoling site . Time is need to dirty things up a bit and for me to gain my sanity back the second round of weathering is done waiting the third after a sealing coat is applied . Lead wires and push rods with a wash finish off the engine . Chipping was added to the nose as well .

Lovely work and progress, Alexis - your weathered fabric look is spot on.

The weathering looks very realistic. And nice wiring detail on the engine.

Wonderful work Alexis. As Dave said, I think the fabric weathering is just right.

Lot of work gone into this one, looking good.
The oil stained fabric is superb

Thanks guys , the finish line is getting really close now . Last bit of weathering and then it is time to assemble and rig this beast and hopefully get it off the bench !

The staining looks perfect Alexis, well done!

Love the weathering - just enough!!
Steve

Thanks Zac and Steve :)
Alexis

Looking Great, Alexis! The weathering is beautifully done... the amount, position, texture, it's all there and authentic... I'm impressed! ATB, Marc.
-
Thanks Marc ! Sorry for the late reply back this thing called life keeps getting in the way .
Not much for progress but I have started adding the attachment points for the rigging and while doing that I wanted to get the cab struts mounted or ready to be mounted only to have a head srcatcher and something I should have paid more focus to . But it was one of those moments at time and I pressed forward only to have come back and bite me .
For the struts to mount correctly the opening in the fuselage covers need to be opened up . This is not an easy task for the oil tank is right behind this . So far this is were I'm at and still needs clean up and paint touch ups .
Alexis
-
Moving along quite well Alexis! Cleaning out the strut locations looks difficult. Nice to know so that if I ever do one of these perhaps I will be able to do this Before assembly !
RAGIII

Oh my Alexis, that is very nice. Your weathering on this build is spot on. I'm taking notes :)

Lovely to see you back Alexis, and your progress on the DH.2 is equally lovely!

Still coming along so nicely.

Looking very nice indeed!
The last stages to completion seem to take forever.
I don't think we ever complete a model as we are always finding more detail to add. Rather we just stop working on it ;)
-
Well now your just making me blush ! Thanks for the comments guys :)
It's funny Brad , I take notes following your builds ;)
So I managed to take two steps forward and finished placing the rest of the eyelets in the lower wing top side . Upper under wing is next . managed to break tail strut on the fuselage , new one was made and is under painting .
Cab struts now fit like the should . It was easier once I removed the oil pan and tank out out of the way . File work went quick after that and the parts are easly put back afterwards .

I may have said it before, but it bears repeating - those oil stained fabric wings look fantastic

What they said! I don't weather models but with rotaries it's inevitable, and I'd be so pleased if I can achieve anything close to that! It's always good to see another update from you, Alexis!
(Also - have any other forumites seen the comedy series Schitt's Creek? Catherine O'Hara's pronunciation of the name Alexis (link (https://youtu.be/OflXfUbP-u8)) comes into my head whenever I see "our" Alexis' name!! ;D)

Excellent weathering Alexis! I wasn't sure about the Oil stains on the wings when I did Mine. I think I will go back and add some based on your efforts!

Slow but staedy progress Alexis: and the standard of the finish is as high as ever!

Schitt's Creek , that is a funny show , love it !
Thanks guys for the continuing support towards this build which really seems to be taken it's sweet time !

Alexis , you know you want to say the name !
I told my wife and she was greatly amused! "Alexis, what is the latest on your Airco pusher?"
-
Alexis, what's your method for recreating that staining? Artist's oils? I'd love to know.
WD
-
Good grief, I am out of it for a while and come back to some seriously good modelling here. Awesome job Alexis, well done.
-
Well the latest so far Zac is still construction wire hoops for the rigging and gluing them in place Nothing worth of a photo yet but progress is moving forward ! ;) There is still a s&it load of ones to be made :'( Have a four day weekend so progress pic's will be coming to entertain you .
Hey WD , I don't use oils at all actually . I did the staining using Tamiya pastel chalk and Tamiya smoke . The Tamiya smoke I thinned with future finishing off with their pastel line of weather products ( Oil stain form set D ) to blend and feathering the edges .
Thanks Pete , I might have this done by the end of the year . Work and other duties keep me busy and with summer here ...
Alexis , yes she is still kicking and screaming ...who wants too know :o
-
This is very straining on the eyes and only have way done with making them . Both upper and lower top have their eyelets as well as the struts which I'm pretty sure caused slight blindness . Before I mount the top wing will do per-rigging at the wing root , easier to get in there now then later . I'm a getting there !
Alexis
-
Lovely work Alexis!
-
Thanks Zac ,
Some of the per rigging is don and struts fixed in place for the top wing . Before I glue that in place I missed a few of the eyelets on the to lower side of the the top wing . Which is works outs , while I'm doing that will give time for the glue to set more . The last four outer struts will e added after the inner bays are rigged , this should give me a bit more room with out having these struts in the way .
Alexis
-
Your DH2 is really looking awesome! All of your mods are certainly paying off Alexis!
RAGIII

A pleasure to see a real aeroplane model loking as good as this Alexis. Putting all of those tiny eyelets in must be testing your patience to the limit, but at least you are getting there!

You know , this chick rocks !
Top wing is now permanently fixed in place , every thing lined up perfectly and the wing is dead straight . Can ask better then that , just hope the tail booms and tail do the same thing . This area will get rigged before moving on to the outer bays . To many hairs in the way for me .
Alexis

;) For Ken

You're doing a masterclass work as usual, Alexis!

Great. And absolutely right to rig the wings before attaching the tail.

Thank you so much for the continuing support guys !
Stephen , who said it is a jig ;)
Another weekend has past following some more progress with the rigging , not quit the amount was hoping to achieve , but it was great to sit relax and enjoy . Outer bays will get finished over next weekend this will give my eyes a break ! They need it after the inner bays . So far so good , all is remaining straight so far and really starting too stiffen up as the rigging is added .
Alexis

Complicated....veeeery complicated - great progress!!

RAGIII

What they said! I always enjoy your updates Alexis...that Eduard kit inches ever closer to my bench!
-
Thanks guys for the continuing support . My bench time is limited at the moment but I do enjoy the time I get .
The outer bays are now rigged and this part is finished . Before placing the remain struts in their location These ares were per rigged . This made it easier to get in there and when the struts got added , they just clicked into place There is no play or wiggle in the structure . Made a start on the last area of the fuselage but I gave up , eyes got sore and tired .
The tail booms are next and tail plane with a start in the inner bays attachment points with turn buckles . I will per rig these before gluing in place . The attachment points are from Eduards 1/48 scale turnbuckle PE set . In the mean time , back to making wore hoops and such , there is a fair bit !

Alexis

Oh yeah , can you spot the error with the turnbuckle thingies ?
Alexis

Can't spot the problem... and they seem awfully small, but think of how much life and interest they will add to your beautiful model!

I see no issues from here...but then I swapped fore and aft struts on my Wingnut Wings Pup :-X
-
Looking very good Alexis. You are demonstrating an important fact: pushers are perfectly viable models to make! We just need a few more modellers to make them....
Stephen.
-
I missed for of the turn buckle things on the lower right hand side outer bay on the double wires . :-[
Thanks a bunch guys , adventures continue with the rigging . Engine bay area is done , booms are fixed in place . This are a major issue and still don't fit right . Even though they are same length , the mounting locals on the wings aren't and toss's one hell of a wrap which rigging will not fix . So some had to be trimmed and still not good but better to the point I'm moving on . Might be able to get more of the twist removed once the wires are finally Tension up . The wires pass throw the struts . Rigging on the tail is done as well , I used left over PE parts from Rodens 1/48 Strutter for part of the hard ware mounting brackets .

Thank you very much guys for the positive feed back . I might have a bit more progress to share tomorrow if I can find time to spend in front of the bench .
My time seems to be less and less with work and a promotion on a support site , I manage 30 different groups so my plate is full .
Again thanks for the continuing support and following along :)
Alexis , still awesome and sexy as hell !

Very nice so far, Alexis, will keep watching with great interest!

Great progress, Alexis. And I quite positive that any warp (if there is one indeed) can be fixed by proper tensioning of the cables. Good luck!
-
Exceptional work on a trying part of the build!!
Steve
-
Looking at what you have done so far Alexis, I think that you are being too critical of your work. Tail booms are not easy to assemble or rig, but with patience and experience they do get easier. This is going to be a top notch model when it is finished.
Stephen.
-
Thank you for the vote of confidence guys !
Did start to make progress on producing more turnbuckles after three in it dawned on me , forgot the attachment anchors . So I need to remove three eyelets and and this time wire up the hoop to the said attachment point ::) These are for the cross bracing wires going from the wing to tail . So I back at it ....
Alexis
-
That looks excellent to me, I can't see any warp.
Top job Alexis!
Ian

I second that, I can't see anything wrong with it Alexis!
It looks grand!
Willem

Thanks guys :) :) :)
Had last night off so a bit of time was spent at the bench to get some joy time in , not much was done but in ways it is a fair bit . Turn buckles for the booms to wings are in place and ready for their wires but I'm thinking that the control lines should be done first for these wires will be in the way . The ones for the landing gear are ready to be installed . Still have lots to make for the control horns now . and the last ones for the forward part of the fuselage .

Thanks Allan , so 32 scale is to small for you ? To be honest it is with me as well at times . ;)
Thank you as well Fredrik and Bertl :)
Alexis

...think Allan is a 72/48er and there are some things you can do to a somewhat lesser extent whereas 1/32 what's see-able is do-able....your work is coming along very nicely.
Steve

Thanks Allan , so 32 scale is to small for you ? To be honest it is with me as well at times . ;)
No, it's too big !! I am running out of display room and I mostly build in 1/72 scale...

Thanks Steve ! Weekend is among us so should have some more progress to report by the end of it . Well , that is the plan at least .
Can relate to that Allan , space is something not favored in my place . 48 is my main scale , but I do build a few 32 scale birds . 72 is to small for me now . With only two let in the stash those will be a duel build .
Alexis
-
Your DH is really looking superb Alexis!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick :)
Bit more progress was made but this weekend naps seem to be more important for selfcare .
Buckles for the landing gear are installed and I made the buckle assembly for the rudder and tail skid controls , those took me some time , far from perfect but they will do and i really don't want to spend a few more hours remaking them . Flipping eyes would be able to handle such torture . Slow getting there , but there is still a bit of small details to add , control lines , rest of the rigging and some pipping . then paint said details . So I do apologizes for this build taking so long and I'm grateful you gentlemen are still tagging along and giving support , means a lot to me .
Alexis
Oh ya , not a great pic . shoot the camera not the person using it , she has a build to finish first ! ;D

Weekend is almost here , will have more progress shortly .
Alexis
-
Alexis,
Wow! - you've got more patience than me building those tiny turnbuckles and attachments .......
Regards
Dave
-
5 1/48 turnbuckles in 1 small area x 2!! That's patience.
Steve
-
Will say that it does take patience and I'm using up what I have on this build . ;)
Weekend was spend wisely in front of the bench and the rest of the turnbuckles are fashioned up , control horns installed and painted , even the spring returns for the main flight controls . For the rudder since this is double wires a short pin was installed in the control horn and it it's a matter of slipping on the hoop over the pin . Sad part is I lost the the two control horns for the top wing and will have to make those , not a problem at all . There is still some details which need to made , like the pullies for the top wing and under the fuselage there should be two tear drop domes covering the pullies , these aren't represented in the kit , so how I will solves this is buy drilling holes and placing half pullies . This part will get done towards closer to the finish line . The end is very near for this one , next up date and I should have the tail control lines in place .

That patience is paying off Alexis, well done!

Oh! That’s looking very nice indeed. I need to get out my 1/72 DH2 soon.

As Fredrick has wriiten, patience is vital with a model as delicate and complex as this. You are making an absolutely first class model here - I take my hat off to you for all the tiny details that you are adding.
Stephen.

Thank you guy's :)
Will be getting bench time in this weekend , now that I have a plan on the order of the remainder of the rigging .
Alexis

I like these pushers, but unfortunately I haven't built any of them myself yet.
My plan for years has been to build the 1/32 WNW D.H.2 5929 by DM Tidmarsh, with the bullet damage on the nose of the plane.
I really like your work Alexis - all those little turnbuckles - excellent work, incredible patience.

Thanks Bertl and William :) Spend a few hours over the weekend adding more lines to the flight controls and two more rigging lines for the nose .
before the tail controls get added a few more turnbuckles are need , but the cross rigging from the wings to boom are next up , stiffening up the tail for the control lines .

Hi guys and thank you so very much !
With the long weekend here I get a few more hours to spend on this build and was able to get a fair bit done . The main rigging is now done leaving the landing gear and the control cables for the alreons or how ever it is spelled . Will say after the tail is rigged , it is a very solid structure , Glad I didn't use elastic thread for this are all . The other pulleys for the under side of the fuselage for flight control I made out of punch 0,5mm disc placing them in drilled holes . Still have to paint and weather them , for this I will use elastic thread . Pipping for the wing tank is under way just the top vent pipe is left . Still work to do and don't want it bent . Pulleys for the top wing are also made waiting paint and forgot to take a pic so ......
Land gear is next and the rest of the details then off to painting all those details !

Sandy , hard to say to be honest . Still have a few others in the stash calling me ;)
Alexis

Last nights progress until it was nap time !
Rest of the pipping is now in place , lower control lines installed using elastic thread and the landing is finally fix forever . Pulleys for the top wing are painted and ready to go , this is the last bit of detail to added , others are the gun engine and prop and this bird is done !
Alexis
