Title: How do you present your models?
Post by: Bughunter on August 29, 2020, 05:49:57 AM
Hello,

after Guy asked today for pictures of my cabinet I here are some pictures of my cabinet.
May be we can made a thread from it, comparable to the workbench one?

My Glass Cabinet

My (at that time new) wall mounted glass cabinet:

The reason, why I stick to 1/48. The cabinet is huge, but not very deep, due to limited space for a stair.

I added light with LED stripes myself. The LEDs are in alu profiles on every layer ...

... so the light away from the viewer to illuminate the models from above and below.

Not yet full, but also no more empty

What a superb collection of models Frank.

I too have glass cabinets but they stand on the ground and have glass doors. Most of my models are in the True Scale so I can also get a lot in - but I am gradually filling them! I have installed LED lights under the shelves so that the light falls directly on to the models.

This is a great idea for a Thread Frank, and your collection and the cabinet look very impressive. I always enjoy seeing other's models and getting ideas on display cabinets etc. I am going to take a few photos shortly to add here, how about adding yours Stephen, and Ken & Guy if you have some?
Cheers,
Lance

Frank, your cabinet, the lighting, and the models inside all look fantastic!

Very nice presentation.

I think most modelers buy display cases from IKEA.  Sometimes you can find something for cheap if a store closes down and they are getting rid of their display furniture.

I have also noticed that there is a large amount of glass display cases at Ebay these days, though a lot of it is expensive.

I have always used various glass cases from IKEA.

OK, so here is a bit of a wobbly. My amazing wife Vanessa saw this for sale in a second hand shop a few years ago. It is a mahogany cabinet, at least 50 years old, (probably heading for 100) with a Fluorescent?? light and orange velvet floor with brass fittings ... probably used in a jewelry shop... It is a bit shallow, and won't take 1/32 scale aircraft, but you can see some WW1 on the middle shelf... You can indeed appreciate my eclectic taste in model subjects! So I won't mess or change it, just accept it for what it is... Regards, Marc

Great stuff!
I'll see if I can take a shot of my display case, but as I'm limited for space it also features a bunch of half-finished parts and models, so it isn't too tidy at the moment... :-S

I have recentlt taken a photo of one of my cabinets and the seal which I use on the doors in response to Gisbod's moving thread. Because most people will not look there to see the cabinet here are the pictures again:

The cabinet is approximately 6 feet (1.95m) high and 22inches (55cm) wide, 11 inches (28cm) deep. The shelves are glass but I have covered them with grass matting used by railway modellers. The cabinet was delivered as a flat pack and was assembled in about 30 minutes. The instructions were simple and clear. I also put in LED lights: there was a hole in the rear of the cabinet to allow a lead to be passed though. The doors are hinged and there is a small gap through which dust could enter, so I sealed that with some shower seal:

I slide the open part of the seal on to the edge of one of the doors, close the door and then close the other door on to the flap on the seal. This has made a dust proof gap for at least 5 years.

My models are 1/72 scale but 1/48 would also fit and some of the single seater types in 1/32 would also fit.

Stephen.

Here's mine. It's a jeweler's display cabinet and I've just ordered a roll of black craft paper to attach to the back so the rigging is more visible.

I have 2 more which were both slightly damaged in my move but are still useable.

Nice Ian,

I was wondering about the backing. The one I’m looking at has a choice. Black, silver, white...
