Can't miss this, Xan, I'll sign up for notifications!
Antonio

I see the bug that bite Rick has bitten you too , following along with interest Xan :)
Terri
-
That's an ambitious project Xan, and will make a magnificent display together. It's great to see so many Spads here lately and I'll enjoy following this grouping!
Cheers,
Lance
-
Looking forward to this very much. Spad building seems to be contagious.
-
... and is only allowed in triples? ??? ;D ;D
Eduards SPAD is in my stash, but I was now aware of the company JMGT. Always something to learn here 8) I want to build a version of the "American Eagles" kit, but the strange wing struts and rigging have kept me from doing so so far.
I will watch for sure, what the master is creating!
Cheers,
Frank
-
As always I am looking forward to your builds and the beautiful photos you always provide!

Thanks to all.
Let's start with the two SPAD VII., the JMGT and the Special Hobby models.
Both are not accurate, and we are still waiting for the definitive SPAD VII at 1/48

Xan

Xan, looks like an interesting project. I look forward to your results.
-
I am looking forward to what you do with these. I had both well underway years ago. I am sure yours will come to a far different end than Mine did ;D
RAGIII
-
I can't wait to see your building process. Eduard and s. Hobby is already in my stash.
-
Great project, xan. I am waiting in anticipation what you are doing here.
Andreas
-
Great project - I also have both kits and have had the idea of a kit-bash as well. I have always liked the JMGT solid fuselage idea (no spine or belly seams) but from what I remember, the fit of the nose piece (especially around the sides of the cockpit) is terrible, as it's not quite as wide as the fuselage. The JMGT resin is also quite brittle, and the wings I have are quite badly warped. The special hobby kit is not without fault, as you say... it's the combination of these issues that has meant the project hasn't started on my bench...
Looking forward to seeing where this goes :)
Cheers,
BC
-
Looking forward to seeing how you correct all the dimensions Xan. This is going to be fascinating!
Richie
-
Thanks to all this project will be quite long....
I started with the JMGT:
The two fuselage part don't fit well at all....
I tried to rework this joint:

I started the cockpit:

Xan

Nice work closing up that joint. Pit looks great, too!
-
Great work on the cockpit! I recall it being difficult to paint some of the details due to the way the kit is molded. Yours looks Awesome!
RAGIII
-
Nice fix on getting the top/cowl to fit and the details :)
Terri

JMGT cockpit is ended adn the fuselage closed:

Xan

Excellent use of the part PE to enhance your Special Hobby SPAD! Looking Terrific!
RAGIII
-
Spectacular work on both, Xan! I have both kits and will use this build log as a guide when I build mine.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Oh yes, this is again a template build for both kits. Super!
Cheers,
Frank
-
Amazing!
-
Thank you!
The Secial hobby is now ended:

Going back to the JMGT.
It is time to look for the fuselage and there is a lot of work to be done....
Xan

Beautiful work on the SPAD XIII interior. All three are Fantastic! You will catch up with Me soon on your builds :D
RAGIII
-
Beautiful work Xan, wonderfully photographed too.
-
I really like how the Eduard pit turned out , very nice ..all 3 are super !
Terri
-
Thanks Terri.
the fuselage now. Surfacer for all of them , specially in the JMGT i will rebuilt all the front side...
Xan

I really like how the Eduard pit turned out
Yes! I think Eduard has done a good job to engineer the complicated layout with this unusual part split, and this build a great paint job renders it beautifully.
How are the fits?
Cheers,
Frank
-
You are continuing to move right along. The casting is so beautiful on the JMGT kit . It is a shame the fit was/is so poor! One thing to check is I seem to recall a fit issue with the fin and rudder to the fuselage. It might have been me but worth checking!

I am looking forward to seeing the detail replaced on the JMGT kit. Like I said the casting was beautiful...too bad it has to be destroyed to get things smoothly lined up!

RAGIII

Ooh, I like that panel technique! I must try it sometime.

Thumbs up Xan :)

Xan

Your Mods are really taking the JMGT kit to a Higher level! Excellent detailing!
RAGIII
-
I was not happy with the representatio of the wodden hatch so i did it again...
The metallic part around the codckpit was not low enough and I retake it too...
I pass a surfacer coat; comparing with the situation at the begining , it is quite better!
It's time for the rivets....
Xan
(https://zupimages.net/viewer.php?id=20/25/jx6x.jpg)
Trois options : poinçonneuse, rivets archer et riveteuse.
je vais certainement faire les gros rivets à l'archer et le petit à la riveteuse...
pour les attaches de la trappe latérale on verra.

There's some really fascinating and impressive good old fashioned "real" model building going on here Xan, it's a pleasure to follow your progress! Richie said it well, "master modelling"!

Very impressive work on mediocre kits. It shows me how much I was spoilt by excellence of WNW kits...
I will be watching this thread with great interest.
