Well you just knew they would surprise us with something before the Xmas cutoff date.
http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/product?productid=3086 (http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/product?productid=3086)
Glad I waited a few days before putting in an order for the Tripe and Fokker's.
-
OMG! I believe!!! Thank you WNW!!! . . .and thanks to Tim for making the call. :) Excuse me now whilst I go order one. So happy . . . too many choices . . . what to start next???!!! Ahhhhhhhhh . . .
Regards,
Bob ;D
-
Unless I've added up too many E series kits, that makes about $719 worth of
kits in the last few weeks! I sure do wish I'd gotten more than one number on
last night's PowerBall! ;D ;D

Well that one came out of left field! That's my Christmas present sorted. I love WNW surprises :)
Well done Bryan Wall, Richard Alexander and team.
It takes a lot to brighten my day today (my father passed away yesterday) but this is a very nice unexpected pleasure.
-
James,
Sorry to hear of your loss. From the initial impressions I have of you he must have been a good man as he raised a fine son. Glad a model raises the spirits a little bit. Take care.
Steve
-
Excellent choice by Wingnuts to produce this kit, I have placed my order, and I relented and placed an order for the Fokker D.VII as well, ah well, it's Christmas.
James - so sorry to hear of your loss, my thoughts are with you and your family.
Des.

My Condolences, James. A special person has passed and yet, will remain with you
always.

I add my thoughts and prayers for you James. I lost my dad 16 years ago and I still miss him, although I know he's always with me. It was his idea to take me to Rhinebeck Aerodrome when I was a youngster in the mid-60s; he always looked after my interests.
Sounds like you could use a Hannover Cl.ii to lighten you load a little. I just ordered mine. You should go ahead and treat yourself. :) Take care.
Regards,
Bob
-
James,
My thoughts and prayer go out to you and your family my old friend. I loss my father in August of 2010 and can assure that he will always with you and that you never walk alone.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

My thoughts are with you James. Although your parents are destined to leave you, they are always in your thoughts and remain with you in your memories forever.
Tim
-
Tim,
Now that's a grand surprise from WNW. Looks like I'll be placing an addition order after Christmas. The Tripe's and DH-2 just landed a couple of days ago and I looking foward to ordering both a Fokker D.VII and a Hannover Cl.II soon.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

Sorry to hear of your loss James. My own father passed on about 15 years ago, but I still miss him. Cheer yourself up by continuing to pursue your passions in life, whatever they may be.
-
Please let me add my condolences, James. Dwell on the good times, my Friend, and good memories will never fade.
Lance

I couldn't say it any better than Lance, James. My thoughts are with you.
Cheers,
Chris

Wow, this is a surprise! Thank you WnW! :) I wonder why it's $99 though.. that is more than all the other 2-seaters and some of them even have more parts. Oh well, I will still get one anyways!
I'm sorry for your loss, James. Think of the good times as Lance said..
-
Jamo,
Very sorry to hear of your loss. Sharon and I send our sincere sympathy and condolences. RIP.
-
James, very sorry for your loss. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
Boy, did this come out of left field? I never would have guessed that Wingnut Wings would have ever done a Hannover Cl.II.
-
Thank you all for your support, I really appreciate it.
This is a good place to hang out
James
-
James,
My sincere condolences for the loss of your father. I'm very sorry.
Well the release of a Hanover CL.II is a dream come true for me. I'm shocked and amazed.
I don't even want to think about how much money I have spent on Wing Nut Wings this past week!
-
My condolences for the loss of your father i lost my mother when i was 13 still miss her! Thats that happend 16 years ago

Ron

James,
Very sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Eric

Great Googly Moogly!!! :o This is AWESOME!!! There goes my retirement money, after shelling out for the three Fokkers, a Pfalz D. XII, D. III and a Gotha I guess I'm going to have to spend a little more and add to the stash of the Albatros D. V and Va and the LVG with a Hannover and maybe some others but what? Hmmm......
James although I'm new here, I'm very sorry for your loss and I only wish you and your family the best.
Ollie
-
So sorry for your loss James. Next month marks 25 years since I lost my dad.
Warren

OMG!!! Not in my lifetime? Somone pinch me! Stunning release. Maybe I'll hold off on the camera a month. :) :) :) :) :) :)
Steve

Condolences James.
Yet another model (and an interesting one at that) to add to my Huge wish list, ah well - one of these days ;)
Andrew
-
Jamo.
My thoughts are with you and your's at this time.
Well those thoughts that arent focused on WNW's crazy release schedule. Totally unexpected, One I'd have snapped up instead of my Tripe and Fok Fokker had I known. Still I'll add to my wishlist and wait a while I guess till the funds recuperate.
Best wishes mate.
-
I am glad I am not a Fokker freak and could have ordered one of these with a clear conscience and a wallet still able to bear it! It is especially exciting as this will most probably be my first WNW model in Polish markings - probably the bright Roland-built.
Jamo - my sincere condolence, my prayers are with you.
-
James,
sorry to hear of your Loss. My thoughts are with you.
I am interested in this one for a future purchase but it isnt the one for me right now. That being said, WOW, what a surprise!

This is a great surprise and I only just received an order from WNW a few days ago, RAF Pup, DH2 and Junkers, trying to catch up on some of the older ones I missed. Just ordered Hannover, DVII (oaw), Fok E.II/E.III and Tripe, so that makes 15 in the stash and 4 more on the way. Oh my poor credit card and just before Xmas.
I think in the new year I need to decide what scale I need to concentrate on for WW1 aircraft, there are now 28 WNW kits and 4 more that we know of in development. There are sure to be many more new kits next year and probably some of the special kits as well. I will certainly get rid of the most of 1/72 in the stash and thin out the 1/48 by a fair bit and concentrate on mainly WNW and 1/32 kits from now on.
Tim
-
James... I´m sorry to hear about your Loss. My thoughts are with you. :(
As for the Hannover... well, that´s a big surprise!!! As soon as I can, I´ll order one... :)

Agh!

Sorry to read that Jamo, I know the feeling. As Steve mentioned hopefully this will help to brighten your day.

Certainly this came as quite a surprise, a nice one at that. Not sure when I will pop for this one. It is certainly unique looking, with the Tripe and DVII on the way, I think I will focus on building rather than "stashing". Gotta thin out my collection as well.
So many choices! It boggles the mind! :o

Yeah, that's probably what I'm going to do as well. I started out with 1/48 scale WW2 aircraft but then got interested in WW1 aircraft and began collecting some of those in 1/48. After seeing WnW's kits however, I am now all into 1/32! I like that scale better particularly for WW1 aircraft because it's easier to see all the detail.
-
My sincerest condolences for your loss, James. I lost my father 33 years ago when I was 15 and there isn't a single day that goes by that I don't think of him. You never get over it; you just get past it. Godspeed to your father.
And, of course, I ordered the Hannover..
-
James, I'm very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family, mate.
Deepest condolences,

James
May I, belatedly, add my condolences on your sad loss. I got back to the middle of France last night following a three-day round trip to the UK for my own mother's funeral.

Nigel,
May I pass on my sympathys to you as well. I hope the travel time was spent in reflections on good times.

My thoughts are with you James...
Mates I`m really beginning to think that I should think about re-thinking my collection goals - 1:32 instead of 1:48...
Hannover Cl II is definitely one of my favourite planes.
I`m glad cause I`ll be able to see lots of these beauties build by you mates!
-
1/32 is such a perfect scale for WWI types. I admire the 1/72 and 1/48 builds for their ability to catch the details in those scales but I find my eyes prefer building in 1/32. Wingspans are generally not overwhelming (Marks Gotha comments are to mind) and there are now enough kits out there to satisfy my glacial pace. Modern types are just too big for this scale and even WWII types are restricted to single engine props for me...so I too am reconsidering my model "stash" but in my case I may restrict it too strictly WWI
Steve

Steve
I have always enjoyed the WWI side of the house, my preferred scale was 1/48, but as the genre became only available with aftermarket, vacuform and the like, I left it because I just don't have the patience to do that. With the advent of Roden's entry into the market place with quality 1/32nd WWI a/c, the few Academy kit, I was hooked, and then along came Wingnuts with their ever expanding lineup, I now build soley WWI in 1/32nd. As Steve mentioned, the size isn't ovewhelming, Gotha not withstanding, the prices are comparable to a Tamiya, Hasegawa and now even Revellogram is getting spendy. So, there you have it.
Mark
-
Jamo, My condolences on your dads passing. As the others have said, I'm sure you have lots of good memories to help you through this tough time. On an up note though, the Hannover is sure a good looking kit. So very WWI looking with that funky tail. Must get my DVIIs first though.
-
Nigel,
My condolences to you as well on the loss of your Mother; It seems so many pass at this time of year. As I said to Jamo, dwell on the good times and good memories will look after themselves.

-
I delayed my move from 1:48 to 1:32 (about three years ago) for some time due to the limited kits and types available in the larger scale. I feel very fortunate that, when I finally made the change, our little world got a kick start from Roden and then the "KIWI INVASION" exploded on the modelling scene with WNW's products. There's no need to look back, and remember, marketing models and related equipment is a business, there will be more from Roden and I suspect some other providers will arrive on the scene. We are indeed fortunate; the Wingnut Kits alone would keep someone like me busy for a long time, and then there's the old "gotta do that scheme too" sickness we all feel to some degree.
The 1;48 and 1:72 folks have done exceptionally well over the years, now the circle is being completed in 1:32. I often ponder the question "is 1:24 next?" Just could be as people such as our members perfect the art and achieve more realism in record time. More size, more room for detail, and on we go!
Having just realized that I am "waxing philosophical" I'll stop now. What a wonderful time to be a Modeller of WWI Aircraft!
Cheers,
Lance
-
I also think the time has come to just collect/build WW1 aircraft in 1/32nd scale so I am preparing to let go of all my others, mind you, it could be the way of creating enough funds to feed my WNW habit

Good news and bad news on the Hannover
Good news: I think I was probably the first WNW customer in the world to take possession of a Hannover, this morning. :)
Bad news: it is to be a Christmas present from the family so I was not allowed to open the box. My wife put it away with strict instructions for it to be left alone until 25th December. :'(

Tell her that you have an obligation to do an in-box review for the forum and that she can have it back as soon as you're finished. That way, you'll at least get to fondle it a bit.

I'm passing on the Hanover.
It was not on my list - never heard of it, to be honest!
At $99 - before 20% VAT & £8 handling fee - for a model plane I've not heard about that will be about 11th in the WNW stash & 80th odd in the overall 1/32 stash, I just cannot order it.
I've managed to not order the Tripe either as I've Roden's version with Pheon's fuselage already - I'm developing some willpower!
-
Where do I get the Triplane replacement fuselage from? any U.K suppliers and how much does it cost?
Terry
-
I didn't know anything about the Hannover as a kid until I found the old 1/72 Airfix kit (I think it was in a plastic bag with a cardboard hanger strip across the top, to be hung on a hook on the hobby shop wall) when I was in high school. Airfix kits were just making their way across the pond to certain hobby shops in the US at that time. What a world that opened up for me--the Airfix line was far more extensive than that of the US manufacturers back then, particularly in WWII aircraft. That was back when my vision was 1/72. ;D
I always liked that unique tailplane arrangement on the Hannover, and the low profile upper wing. Those features made the aeroplane very distinctive. :) My WNW edition was ordered as soon as I saw it. Couldn't resist, what with that image of the old bagged Airfix kit in my mind and knowing how WNW would do the subject sublime justice in 1/32. ;) . . . and also because, unlike Dekenba, I lack any modicum of willpower. ::)
I am developing an affinity for the workhorse 2-seaters, even though I have not yet built any of them. I'm working on the Lloyd right now, however.

Direct from Pheon models - they've a listing on this here forum, I think - for £10.
Bargain.

Initially I was taken aback that you had to create your own lozenge, but I'm quite looking forward to that bit now, a bit of frisket film and a mask enlarged from t'internet should suffice.
Looking like a tripe, fokker and, hannover chrimbo for me.

I'm with you Steve. I find 1/32 is perfect for my WWI builds, 1/48 for WII and modern aircraft, and 1/35 for AFVs. I just like the overall size of the models.

this only prooves that wnw does pay attn to the forums and what we request. hannover has been on the want list for many of us on every poll for years. if they will only make an aviatik D.I and a spad a2/a4 i would be set.
the pheon tripe fuselage is fantastic looking and a bargain, i have one. it seems to be made from modification of the original kit parts. it doesnt just fit though, i cleaned up the parts (pheon and the roden kit parts for the upper cowl and wing fillet) and in dry fitting these with tape the top decking is 2mm longer than the pheon parts and the wing fillet is 1mm longer. so it doesnt just drop in place and fit. i dont understand because i have had this problem with other resin am items (not pheon) it seems certain silcone mold materials shrink therfore even casting a copy of a kit part it may end up short. not trying to bash pheon as i love and support rowan and his products. just wanted to let whomever know that it requires some modelling to make it happen. well worth the meager price he is asking.plus you also get a rotherdam(sp?) pump and prop.

Having just finished the Koster Hannover and puzzling over this very issue, I look forward to seeing how each of you will approach the fuselage camouflage. A lot of room for interpretation there.

-
Bud,
Are you going for a repeat in 1/32 scale? Inquiring minds want to know. Hint, hint.

-
the fuselage lozenge was hand painted in real life so it wouldnt have been perfect plus it isnt a consistant pattern. the polygons are various shapes and sizes. i think it will be fun to replicate this. not sure which scheme i will do. some have the translucent bluish color sprayed over so that will go a long way to cover any inconsistancies .
-
Oh man, Gregory, I'd love to, but it really comes down to space. I currently have 24 completed 1/48 scale WWI models nearly filling 2 Ikea display cases. SWMBO has been very patient with me and is even buying me a third case for Christmas. I have 4 WNW kits in my stash: the Ninak, early Fee, J.1 and LVG. All big planes. The Ninak and J.1 are excuseable since they are not available in 1/48 scale. The Fee and the LVG are extravagances since I've got an unbuilt Aeroclub FE2b and an unbuilt Blue Max LVG. I think in terms of marital serenity, the WNW Hannover would be pushing it a bit.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Bud,
I hear you my old friend, display space is an ever present problem. From time to time I pull mine from the cabinets and shelves and box them up for storage. For some unknow reason I've spent a small fortune in packing peanuts, bubble wrap and plastic storage containers over the years, and that's just the completed projects. Lately I've been mulling over donating most of my remaining stash to the Wounded Warrior's program. Earlier this year I'd already donated 150 kits to the local Boys&Girls Club. The WW I kits I'll be keeping though in hopes of returning to building at some point. In the mean time I keep finding more must have kits like the new WNW kits and Alley Cat's Bristol (Thanks to Des).

Gregory Jouette

Dear Wingnut Wings, I L O V E YO U !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you........!
You made a dream come true, a dream I dreamt for fourty years now! (And that's true...: When I was a boy, I read a book by Hans Baur, Hitler's later personal pilot, who in WW1 flew a Hannover. I now think a little more differentiated about what I read then, but I am a Hannover-Addict since then...)
Richard
P.S. Ordered my Hannover a few minutes ago.
-
Darn it, Mr. Fahey.
How did she even know that you got it?
I never tell my wife about that stuff.......................haha! ::)
-
Well if she is going to make it my Christmas present she does really need to know about getting it. The previous arramgement had been to get me the Fokker DVII for Christmas, but when I got my hands on that one I couldn't resist opening it and fondling the plastic and reading the instructions and then she said well that's not going to fly as a Christmas present, so when the Hannover came out, it was the perfect solution. I am never home when the kits get delivered anyway, so Linda always knows when I have been spending
-
James,
LOL sounds like a familiar story for most modelers my old friend.

-
Hey Bud--can we see your solution to the fuselage lozenge on that recently completed Koster Hannover? ;) I enjoy your work and would love to see the finished product. :D If it's anything like your Nieuports it wwill be fantastic!
Regards,
Bob
-
Good move, Jamo. You get something you want and the missus has something to hold over you for 12 to 36 months. Everybody's happy!
I ordered the Hannover and Fokker (OAW) this arvo', after I finished taping up the last packing box (call it "retail therapy"- I hate moving). Michelle will be giving them to me as a birthday/Christmas present. I'm sure she'll be thrilled to hear about that, as it will save her the trouble of finding something herself.
Bud, what Bob said. We know you'll have some piccies somewhere.
Dal.

Vibes are real at WnW. So what's next?! A Phonix D.I, D.II or D.III? How bout a Oeffag Albie?
Thamk you for a perfect Christmas.
:) Steve
-
I would be thrilled with any of those, Steve! The OEFFAG Albie would be very dangerous to my wallet/budget, however, as there are only about a dozen or so A-H schemes I want to do for that one! :o :o
Regards,
Bob

I too would be pretty fast to pull the trigger on that one if it surfaced!

My Hannover arrived today.......sweet!!!
-
I received my Hannover yesterday afternoon and the kit is beautiful! I have never seen a plastic kit that fits so well that when you dry fit the fuselage or the wing halves together the seams disappear...completely! Also the small parts are so fine and delicate and flash free. Wing Nut Wings keep raising the bar for quality, innovation and their ground breaking efforts producing kits that have never been modeled in 1/32nd scale.
-
Hello all:
I got delivery confirmation on 11 December and got the kit today 14 December in Minneapolis Minnesota. Talk (write) about speedy Delivery!! It is a beautiful kit of a neat airplane. Thanks WNW for this.

:) Hi all from Germany, :)
ordered my Hannover on Dec. 1st, it was being shipped on Dec. 7th, arrived at German customs on Dec. 18th and (LUCKY ME !) today - after having payed the usual tax- amount, I HELD IT IN MY HANDS! :) A boyhood-dream has finally come true. Thank you, Wingnut Wings!
Richard
-
Richard, I am pleased to hear that a boyhood dream has been fulfilled at last! I find that notion very satisfying. :)
It seems as we get older, at least for me, the pull of those early influences and wishes becomes ever stronger. I really like the Hannover as well, and look forward to building it eventually, but for me the old dream was the Gotha. As a child I had an American Heritage volume on Word War One that had a section subtitled "The War in the Air." That section included a beautiful full page painting of a flight of white Gotha bombers attacking London. For whatever reason, I never got the old Aurora 1/48 Gotha kit back in the 60s, so the WNW Gotha was a real thrill for me. It will definately have to be a white scheme when I have a go at it.
Enjoy that Hannover Richard!
Regards,
Bob
-
Thank you very much, Bob! Well isn't it so that in the end we all live on our childhood-dreams? (At least we boys do..)
One last thought out of topic (but is it?): You probably know the phenomenon of reappearing dreams: I only have a few of those, but one of them is me in one of my childhood's toyshops stumbling upon a model-kit of a plane, I didn't know before, and I am so excited that I wake up with a happy smile on my face that lasts for the rest of the day...
Happy Holidays - and some sweet dreams come true!

Speaking of A-H schemes, I just got Osprey's new Austro-Hungarian Albatros Aces book in the mail today. Lots of cool schemes in the color profile section!

This is the book I mentioned previously from my childhood. That's Douglas McCampbell in a Nieuport 28 about to shoot down a Rumpler, on the cover:

Here is the Gotha painting:

Hi Bob, hi all,
hope you all spend some beautiful holiday-days! 8)
So here's what made the seven year old boy then, way back when, a Hannover-fan. I was ill, had to stay in bed for some days and read the autobiography of Hans Baur, Hitler's former pilot. Well, I didn't get far, but I really enjoyed the pages that deal wit Baur as a very young pilot close to the end of WW1. The other book I had with me in bed was the Airfix-catalogue, and there they were, the Hannover and the SPADs, which I had just read of in Baur's book.. wonderful! Very cool story! Thanks for sharing Richard. :) I'm right there with you on the Roland C.II. WNW is bound to do it some day. For now, the Gotha and the Hannover will keep me busy. ;D I just love that biplane horizontal stabilizer!

The other book I had with me in bed was the Airfix-catalogue, and there they were, the Hannover and the SPADs, which I had just read of in Baur's book.. wonderful! (And it was also then, whe I fell in love with the Roland C.II - another wish right from my heart towards WNW...)
Hello and Merry Christmas Richard:
Thanks for sharing that story, it is sharing those wonderful memories that make the forums special. It is more than modeling, it is people from around the world. It certainly is neat that after all these years, WNW came out with a model in 1/32nd scale that you have always wanted. Great war aircraft in 1/32nd really rekindled my interest in WWI aircraft models and WNW has really just made it all the more fun and interesting.
I will be looking forward to seeing you progress on this kit. My wife got if for me for Christmas and I will be building it as well.
Best
Mark

Hi Bob, hi Marc, hi all,
thank you very much for your replies!
WNW's Great War aircraft in 1/32nd rekindled my interest in WWI aircraft models too, Marc! But I didn't build a kit for ages!! Buying the Hannover has been a first step foreward-backwards, so I don't know when or even wether I will build this beauty...
Richard
P.S. By the way, it seems like I cannot use photobucket the right way: The pic of the text just won't appear bigger. Will I have to scan it one more time?

Richard:
Thanks for sharing this! The test image on your post enlarged to easily readable size with a single click! Very interesting stuff, at least for a history nerd like me. ;) A good way to spend some time on a quiet day after Christmas. :)

Bob

Yes that is a very interesting commentary. It is more unusual to find these journals from the German perspective (in English).
