Title: Spare parts
Post by: Alexis on February 15, 2020, 10:17:19 AM
I seem to have an overflow of spare parts and I'm at the point now on what to do with them . This also includes PE starting to forum a nest .

What do you guys do with yours ?

Is it really worth saving them ?

Hi Terri
Your post raises a very interesting point re the spare parts we all accumulate.
I wonder if there would be Forum interest if I created a spare parts exchange board?
We could use it for parts, part used decal sheets, PE and resin?
Let's have some member feedback on this one please.
Would you use a spare parts board to seek or dispose of parts?
Cheers

Oh man , I totally forgot about the decals ! Christ , let's not go there ...

Thanks Dave , I've been thinking about this over the past few days . I never going to really use all this spare stuff . Maybe even include old instruction sheets . I've come to the point now that I just send them for recycling , but others many find them more useful .

Hi Terri

Just to complicate the mix, a spare parts trade board could also feature part-built/ started/ abandoned kits. One modeller's shelf of doom could be another's treasure trove?

Waaay back in my teenage years when money was tight I got a lot of enjoyment from taking old made up Aurora WW1 kits that others had dumped and stripping them back to parts and re-making them. It was cheaper than buying new kits!

I'm happy to launch a spare parts board if members want it.

cheers

It sounds like a good idea. I have several WNW boxes full and some others. If decals are included just a reminder to be Mindful of our Sponsors feelings  8)

excellent idea
from time to time I find myself buying spare parts for scratchbuilt projects.
Sometime i had to raid an entire model for some pieces.
As for pieces coming from kits that are not wwi related, i donated spares to fellow modellers that build starships from scratch.

Doesn't complicate it at all Dave , opens up more doors for folks who are looking for items . Should include tools as well  ;)

I have a box the size of a mini-fridge with old kit boxes inside divided into allied, axis, Great War, clear parts, underwing stores, and un-built phased out kits. Beyond my self-diagnosed obsessive-compulsive disorder which prevents me throwing out anything that might someday prove useful, I watch the "looking for" posts on the hobby forums for any chance to find good homes for all of this stuff. As though a sprue of USAAC drop tanks was a puppy up for adoption or something.

I'm afraid I now have a policy of chucking stuff unless it is fairly generic. I keep engines, armaments and 'company specific' things like Sopwith engine cowls

Otherwise I get swamped with old plastic  :o

I am all for this. Great for kit bashing or upgrading some vacuform kits.

anyone with spare parts that would convert a Fokker-built D.VII to an OAW-built ship: i will happily relieve you of this burden and compensate you fairly with money or toilet paper (i will ship the TP insured for its full value).
