Title: Arma Hobby 1/72 Hurricane x2
Post by: FAf on January 27, 2020, 08:00:52 AM
This is what's keeping me from building on my Pup for the moment - two Hurricanes one BoB Mk.I and one Malta based Mk.I Trop. Excellent models from Polish firm Arma Hobby bought in Krakow last summer.

It doesn't take long before one reaches the painting stage and I started with Dark Earth from Mr. Paint. I had copied Arma Hobby's camouflage masks and turned them into masks only to realise that I should have started with green and Mid Stone instead instead. So I freehanded the green and used new negative masks for the Mid Stone on the Malta machine. I then spent most of Sunday painting the markings.

They look superb!

I've been meaning to pick up one of the Arma Hobby Hurris as they really do look the business.

I made the new tool Airfix 1/72 last year which was a fun build. The canopy though is bloody awful shape-wise and the framing is entirely off so I actually swapped it with one from an old mould Airfix I had lying around and much better.

Still got in 1/48 the Classic Airframes, a new mould Airfix and an old mould Airfix to do (I'm a bit of a fan of the old Hurri).

I'll be watching these with interest.

Tim

Thanks for the support and interest!

A bit of work has happened here to... all decals are on now and one benefit of painting the larger ones is that there are fewer left... They are now awaiting some oilwashes and final touches. Just the one pic from when I was getting ready to start applying the stencils.

Very nice, Sir.

Those half night, half white under-surface finishes are a treat.

Good to see that you are still working on this pair. The one shown looks very good - I too like the night/white underside schemes.

Stephen.

Why thank you, Old man and Stephen!
Strangely enough I too like the black and white undersides... 😉
This one is a Malta based machine, so black and white undersides and desert scheme on top - makes for an interesting total.

Finishing touches this weekend maybe.

Thanks Guy and Rick! I'm quite pleased with these two up to this point... can't really see that I could botch it further on, but never say never...

Guy, I've been thinking about your issues with getting 1/72 scale to look good... I'll finish these and see what lessons I can draw from that.

I’d love to see what you come up with Fredrik.

It put me off smaller scales, but I’m trying my best to mitigate - I’ve just bought a good quality magnifying headset. I’m currently trying a 1/700 scale ship and, believe me, you need good magnification for that!

Seriously Guy... you can't say that you've been put off by smaller scales, i.e. 1/72, when you've just completed a masterpiece in 1/144 and are working on something ten times smaller!!!  ::) ;D

These are beautiful hurricanes. The Arma hobby kit is my favourite hurri in any scale and these are as good as it gets.

Thank you Richie! I, too, really like the Arma Hurricanes and I've built their PZL P.11 which also was a nice build.

The pair is now finished and here are some pictures...
New models are waiting. /Fredrik

Absolutely love them. The desert camo is beautiful but I have a real soft spot for Mk1 1940 scheme. Especially in this the 80th anniversary of The Few's finest hour.

A very nice pair of Hurries, Fredrik.

And a general remark - I strongly recommend Arma Hobby kits - every single one is a jewel and a pleasure to build.

Thank you both!

I couldn't agree more! I've built these two and their PZL P.11 and they were all well designed and with nice crisp details. I'm planning a future purchase of their new Wildcat.

Cheers Fredrik
