Title: 1/32 Nieuport 11 - kit differences
Post by: RLWP on January 18, 2020, 11:03:35 PM
This is mostly curiosity

There seem to be two different manufacturers of the Nieuport Bebe in 1/32.

Special Hobby:

and Amodel:

Looking at the sprues, they are obviously different kits. Is there anything that puts one above the other (apart from price)

Just to be sure, has anyone got experience of both kits?

Hi Richard, I have both in the cupboard but not built. A quick summary:

Special Hobby "French Aces" N11 Boxing:
-plastic parts seem nice, good for a "short run" smaller manufacturer
-bag of resin bits provides the engine and some other detail items
-there is an etched fret with windscreen, seatbelts and some other bits
-markings for three French subjects are provided

Amodel:3203 Imperial Russia:
some good pics in this auction:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Amodel-1-32-NIEUPORT-11-BEBE-Imperial-Russian-World-War-I-Fighter/362694521072?hash=item54724730f0:g:~skAAOSwwYFdIL6P

-plastic is not bad, quite Roden-like
-seems pretty complete - major bits for a good interior seem present for example
-no resin or etch details provided
-marking for one subject provided - admittedly it has a ton of markings with roundels in 14 locations - decals seem a little strange in hand but may be fine hard to say without trying them

If I recall I purchased the Amodel (11 and 16) "dirt cheap" and for the money I paid am satisfied with what I received. The kit is certainly not WNW but looks entirely build-able out of the box without a dramatic amount of aftermarket or scratch building needed. From this quick inbox review the Special Hobby kit is overall I think the "winner" but I believe it typically runs a bit more expensive. Of course the "proof is in the pudding" and I have not built either kit as yet but those are my in box impressions.

If you would like pics of either kit please let me know.

Thank you, that's just what I was after

In the UK, the Special Hobby kit is much easier to find, and is about half the price of the Amodel one
