I planned to do the Mirage Halberstadt CL.IV HFW, but I find the kit somewhat over-engineered and I'm not in the mood for it now.
Quickly changed my mind and decided to do the WNW Albi D.V "The Bavarians" limited edition.

I'll build the Hans Auer, Jasta 32b version. My first WNW build.
I checked for aftermarket stuff, but the only decadence I allowed myself is a Wolff Proper Plane wooden prop.
The Wolff prop was part of the reason I picked this scheme. I've seen enough (Eduard) Axials for a while. ;D
Furthermore OOB.
I heard these WNW kits are shake and bake...I'll find that out now.:)

Excellent choice and I look forward to your build!

Moving up in the world I see , looking forward to your build and that is an excellent scheme you have chosen :)

Excellent choice! It'll be fun to follow your efforts. Nice paint scheme as well - lots that could be painted instead of using the decals... if you want to 🙂
Cheers Fredrik

Very interesting choice, I'll enjoy following your work!

One of my favorite schemes as well Robin, great choice. I'll be very interested in your impressions of the Wingnut Wings experience, this is one of their better Kits IMHO.
Cheers,

Oh, Robin moved over "to the dark side of scale" :o
Good luck and have fun!
I hope you are still doing 1/48 from time to time ...
Cheers,

Thanks all,
Frank, of course I'll return to the light again.
I love 1/48 and the four I finished hardly struck a dent in my stash. ;D

Almost shake and bake. Plenty of possibilities to improve, too. And yes, Auer's comet is my favourite, too 😉

Nice! :)
I'm now planning what to do and how to do it. The stripes...decals or masking, paint the wood grain or use decals for it.
I noticed your build has a mauve/green tail, I think I do a black tail....also undecided. ;D
The wooden prop I ordered from Proper Plane isn't the one used on a D.V...my own fault.
I'll use that one on a DFW C.V (late), so no harm done. The right Wolff prop on order now. Together with plywood decals.
And uhm...a Barracuda engine intake manifold with asbestos insulation.
OOB he said.... :-X
It will take a while until I get the stuff I ordered, perhaps I squeeze in a 1/48 Pfalz to kill the time.
Saturday 25th I have my iaido first dan grading...nothing will happen on my work bench until that's out of the way.
This exam is a big deal for me, so more in 2 weeks time.

I am afraid the propeller for Albatros will not fit DFW, despite the same make they are different in dimensions!
Good luck with your exam.

Good luck with your exam and I look forward to the progress after that :) I like the scheme too, and I'm not even a fan of too-gaudy schemes ;)

Paint, paint, paint! Surely it must be easier to mask and paint those stripes than to use the decals!? Or is it just me that dislikes decals in general and large ones in particular? Still your choice obviously! :D
Best of luck with your graduation!

A belated "Happy New Year" to you, Robin, and best of luck to you with this very interesting build.Take your time and enjoy the project! 8)

Thanks again all,
Prez...I ordered the wrong Wolff (for a Bz.IV engine), but Proper Plane now also have the Wolff for an Albatros D.V, so that's solved :)
Fredrik...I might give the Proper Plane plywood decals a try. I know this will make you cringe. ;D
I'll decide when I get them...and after a test.
Leaning towards painting the black and white stripes...to be decided.
The tail must be green/mauve instead of black. The WNW manual isn't clear about that, but photo's show camouflage colours, so that's what I do.

Although I know that you will build a beauty out of this kit, I regret that you dropped the plan to do the Halberstadt Cl. IV.
Anyway, I will follow your build with greta pleasure.

I have no problems with others using decals 🙂 and for woodgrain I think decals can be a good choice. Give them a go and decide later! As for the stripes it simply looks easier to me to paint them...

Hi Robin! You can make a change in your order if you want to. It's not late :))

I'll pull up a stool and grab some popcorn for this one. The WNW D.V's are great kits. I wouldn't say they fall together but they fit well and are well engineered. I hope you try the Proper Plane woodgrain decals. I'm curious about how well they work. The HGW ones are a bit of a challange.
