Title: B-Type Military Omnibus Miniart 1:35
Post by: Borsos on December 23, 2019, 12:52:38 AM
It is finally available.
https://miniart-models.com/de/products/39001-b-type-military-omnibus/
I couldn‘t wait starting it. As I do not like the windows being covered with wooden planks, I‘ll go with version 2, a bus used as an ambulance in the autumn 1916 at the Somme.

The kit is, as usual with Miniart kits, broken down into countless small and tiny parts. But the fit is — also a usual — excellent and it’s big fun to bring this one together.
Best regards
Andreas

Looks like they have painted over the windows!

Here are b/w photos of the original:

I can’t post the pics here, just can add the links.
I agree, the windows seem to be overpainted. Miniarts instructions also go that way. I read on the homepage of the London transport museum, that the helmets, guns and equipment of the passengers frequently caused the windows to break. Therefore they were replaced by wooden planks. The wounded in an ambulance rarely wore helmets or guns respectively, so this might be the reason for just overpainting the windows.

A little more progress. The fit still is very good, but you really find an abundance of tiny parts and it is not always so obvious, where to glue them exactly. It is vital to study the instructions very carefully. Till this step I followed exactly the instructions which I hope is a good idea due to the many parts that can break easily.

Spectacular work, Andreas!  You've convinced me to pull the trigger on this one.  Looks like it has a lot of really delicate parts.
Cheers,

Thank you very much, Richard, Bud and Rick!

I run out of my khaki color. While waiting for two new jars Mr Color I took some time to start converting some figures for the bus.

Thank you very much, Edo and Robin!

Supplies at last! I received two jars of Mr Hobby‘s khaki to be able to go on painting. Here you are with heavy shading before toning it down again:

Another parcel arrived and contained these books:

For a really fair price when I purchased them at the London Transport Museum webstore they contain lots of fascinating information on these vehicles in WWI; besides of all a high res. shot of my chosen ambulance bus, much better than those on the mini art homepage  :)

Andreas, again a damn great build from your bench! Even if I would prefer a civil one with the huge whisky advertizing :D

Your ability to turn a model into a story is awesome.
Exactly my thought! Everytime if I see his models. And even more, if I see those pieces of art in real, like last time in Ried (Austria).

Cheers,
Frank

Thank you very much Rick, Frank and Jeroen for looking in and commenting so nicely. Frank, the civil one is also in the queue, Miniart also released a bright red version with all its advertising — looking wonderful.

A first testfitting of the main components. i couldn’t resist getting a feeling of the final size of the model. And I have to construct the main components first before being able to adjust some sitting figures onto the top deck.

The contrast is going to be toned down more, there are several stages of filters and washings waiting...

Excellent work Andreas, this is shaping up to be another of your masterpieces.

When I was at the Great War Exhibition in Wellington, NZ in 2018, they had one of these vehicles on display. This photo may help with your model?

Thank you very much Dave, especially for posting this wonderful image. I love the idea of the khaki painted bus with readable, not removed advertising signs.

Some time ago I started to convert some figures for the bus. I was thinking about two or three... Meanwhile I have 23 of them. Stupid me. I have to paint them all...

For my figures I use a wide range of different figures from Mini Art, ICM, Masterbox and other manufacturers that I collected over the years. Then I change, cut and rearrange arms, legs, torsos and hornet resin heads, using Magic Sculpt and Green Stuff together with the formidable ICM WWI equipment sets to build up WWI figures. The smoking officer in the middle of the small group of already painted figures is a Black Dog resin figure, I only changed the head for a Hornet resin replacement. Frankenstein‘s laboratory is a Kindergarden compared to my working bench.

Best regards,
Andreas

Thank you very much, von B. and Richard!

Things go on slowly. But they do go on. I tried out Life Color‘s six jars of WWI british uniform colors and I really like them.

Thanks a lot Giuseppe, Manni, Richard and Rick!

Richard

Although I am not willing to harm anybody’s feelings, disturbance actually is an intented (side)effect when looking at my dioramas/vignettes. I think we must not forget that we are dealing here with one of the world‘s most brutal and cruel wars that ever took place on this earth. Also all these pretty airplanes we are modelling, were only designed and build for one single purpose: for killing people. War is madness, and I do not want to exclude this from my modelling, just to the contrary. When I browse through my display cabinet, I must say that death is the main actor in many of my dioramas.
That’s just my personal way to deal with the contradiction to have fun modelling something that in real life was no fun at all. But there are as many other points of view on this topic as modellers in the world I think.

Pete, yes, in fact it is almost done. I just didn’t post photos in the last phases of the build. I‘ll do that as soon as possible.
I think you won’t regret your purchases, it is a fantastic kit that really fits well.

Dear all,

that’s the recent state of progress here. Painting and shadowing/Lightning is done, now it needs some tining down and weathering. i think of scratches and a muddy appearance especially around the wheels. This very bus no. 1989 had no front wheel fenders when photographed, so I also left them off.

I do not know how I missed this Andreas - probably because as explained elsewhere I have not been properly on form. I have much enjoyed reading this thread and write that once again I just wish that I had a fraction of your artistic skill. Modelling and artistry of a kind that I can only dream about.

I wholly agree with your sentiments re - war: your opinion may be your own but I am sure that many of us wholly agree with you - it was a truly terrible conflict and not just for the servicemen.

Stephen.
