Title: Roden Sopwith 1B.1 Bomber (1 & 1/2 Strutter) 1/48
Post by: Softscience on November 29, 2019, 02:45:40 PM
I started work on Roden's Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter in 1/48 scale. I've had this kit in my stash for a while, and I was a bit intimidated by it, but I think I'm ready to take it on. I really like the ungainly look of the Strutter, and this kit has beautiful surface details. This one will be a French single-seat bomber version, with a large blue winged serpent insignia on the fuselage sides. It should look really cool.

First step was a linen-esque interior and some simple wood frames. It can only get harder from here.

The kit instrument panel has no instruments on it. I know the British versions come with a PE instrument. I assume the French layout was different? I might just rob some instrument decals from other kits and put a few on there. Not much of the cockpit will be visible under that big barn-door wing.

Nice choise! The Strutter is such a charming plane.
I look forward to see this come together.

Very good start. I do like to see the less frequently modelled types like this one - makes a real change. These were important types when in service too and lots were built.

I'll post something soon. I've been assembling the fuselage (the cockpit will be inserted later) and working to fill the gaps and stuff.

I got it mostly under control now, so pictures soon. Meanwhile, you can sort of see it in the background of my latest pictures in the Fokker D.VIII WIP thread.
