Hello my friends,
Now that the Sopwith Triplane is nestled in the display case it's time for the next chapter in plastic tickling.
I give you!

Oh Bob, that will be a project to follow!

Which livery will you give her?
As result of the group build I was able to select two set of Pheon decals, and one was a 1/48 set for the Pfalz D.XII 8) Very nice schemes!

Cheers,
Frank

Hi Frank,
I'm not sure of the livery just yet. I may go with a stock paint job or go with one of Pheon's Decals ...If I can find them!
We will see!

Anyway, I can't start yet because I'm snowed in with orders.  :o When I find a calm moment sidecutters will be slicing sprue  8)

Cheers for all the well wishes  :)

Now I have a dilemma. Do I put in an order for more of your wonderful wares or hold off so you can get started that much sooner on you Pfalz. If only I could keep the carpet monster from eating the wee tube they would last longer.

Don't you worry about that, Albert - It's what I do! Community before modelling. If you need anything just let me know. If I'm busy I will just let you know the waiting time, which at the moment is 3 to 4 days. Which isn't that unusual. I've had times when a 2 week waiting time was common, but thankfully those times are behind me. I'm happy with my current flow ;-)

Cheers!

I found a window of calm...

Parts for the cockpit and engine bay removed from sprue gate, de-nubbed, scrubbed and polished.
More to go!

BTW.
I'm drawn to the XII in Belgium markings. Plenty of variation and something different. We like that!

I'm toying with the idea of including the cowling retainers. What say you?

I had to dig deep when making these weeeee eyelets.  :o I used one of the superfluous cowl panels for my test.
No plastic was harmed in the making of this picture.

That is all...

I have toyed with modelling them in the past but never built up the courage

A question Bob - they're not very prominent on full sized aeroplanes, they are present if you look for them. Do your representations have that same subtlety?

If' they stand out too much, I'd leave them off. Otherwise, go for it!

I think they will blend in better with a painted cowl. But I'm grateful for your comment, Richard. Perhaps it's an eyelet tooooo far!  :D

I do Ken, but I can't publish them on here because they belong to Albatros Publications.

There are loads of these little fixings that get missed off models. When did you last see the wire fixing line and tensioners that hold the cowl onto a Sopwith? It goes right around the back of the cowl and should be pretty obvious

It's like the rivets on the strut mounts and that cowl spring on the Pfalz - are they worth including?

Add stuff or not adding stuff is purely down to the individual. FWIW I did add the cowl springs to my Pfalz DIII years ago.  :o WnW have those in place on the XII. Yes, I'm aware of the retaining cable on rotary engine airframes. German and British alike. I did included this feature on one of my shelf queens (DR.1) many moons ago.

Cheers!

I wasn't casting nasturtiums on your modelling, Bob. More observing just how much stuff is often left off a model

As you say, it's an individual choice. It can help to decide if such details can actually be seen - I find it helpful anyway as I can get ridiculously obsessed with teeny tiny details  :-\

No worries, Richard.
I didn't mean to come across as mean  :D

Tiny details do get in the way of my modelling. I need to focus on the bigger plastic  ;D

Thanks for your input.

Well, I was going to suggest making this type of cowl fastener by simply mashing the end of a small wire with smooth jaw pliers to flatten it and doing a little filing on the end for the right shape.  Then drill a hole in the cowl and CA glue the round end of the wire it in.  I make a lot of small cockpit switches this way.

"When did you last see the wire fixing line and tensioners that hold the cowl onto a Sopwith?" - I put them on my Sopwith Pup, along with the same wires holding on the side panels.  I can be detail obsessed too.  ;)

Personally I like the fasteners Bob. I get a kick sometimes in that we worry about certain things being "Scale" but gloss over things like, are panel lines even visible in scale  8) If you like the results do it. If not pull the plug on them !

I never knew there were so many different nasturtiums, good in salads too.I personally like that sort of niggly attention to do detail Bob,if it was me I'd try a coat of paint too before deciding.

I'm leaning towards using them. I think that when all is done they will be something that adds a little bit of interest. They may not be very visible from a metre, but as you look closer there they are adding detail so that there is more to see when creeping closer. I suppose most of us add small details in the cockpit, why not small details on the outside?! BUT if you don't it'll still be a good looking model! /Fredrik

Really nice leather work! Just how small are those eyelets? For all I know you could have gigantic thumbs!?  ;D
