Title: 1/32 scale resin Sopwith Baby announced
Post by: Dave W on October 27, 2019, 09:51:33 AM
Lukgraph Resin Kits ( Lukasz Sznajder) has announced its first WW1 kit, a 1/32 scale resin Sopwith Baby.

The kit is announced on his Facebook page where he says: This should be ready within a few weeks.
This time we enter the subject of WWI (yes even we are surprised).
Sopwith Baby - a small cute airplane - 1:32 scale.
We are starting production soon - all parts are ready.
The model will be released in 4 box versions.
32-22 Sopwith Baby - British service (2 painting schemes)
32-23 Sopwith Baby - French service (1 painting)
32-24 Ansaldo Baby - Italian service (2 painting schemes)
32-25 Sopwith Baby - German captured plane (with wooden trolley)
The sets will contain engines and bombs printed directly in 3D technology. (Clerget 9B and Le Rhone type J).
For the Italian version, the engine covers will be printed directly in 3D - 2 types.
The Italian version (Ansaldo Baby) also has a different hull.
Renders of Italian Ansaldo soon.
In addition, decals, masks and of course photo-etched parts.
It's a plane completely designed in 3D technology.
This aircraft is dedicated to lovers of aircraft from the First World War.

The release of this kit should please many of us hoping for a Sopwith Baby in 1/32 scale. No price is known yet.

To whet our appetites here are some tempting renders of what's on the way.

Yeah saw that - great stuff and an aircraft deserving of a 1:32 scale model.
Some say 1:32 scale models are too large and manufacturers are shying away from producing them.
I don't think so with Copper State Models and now Lukgraph Resin Kit joining the fray.
Along with mainstream kits from the likes of Wingnut Wings and others, we seem to be in a pretty healthy state for WW1 models in this scale,

I hope the markings for N2071 are included. This watercolour by John Blake is very atmospheric, from the cover of R D Layman's book "Naval Aviation in the First World War Its Impact and Influence"

The Baby is flying over HMS Lion at the surrender of the German Fleet in 1918.

Here are some photos of a replica Sopwith Baby in the markings of N2078 taken at The Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton earlier this year. It was built by Royal Naval Engineering Apprentices in the 1970s using parts from  two original Babies, 8214 and 8215

8214

04/1916 - delivered to Central Supply Depot White City
07/1916 - transferred to Italian Government as pattern aircraft

8215

04/1916 - delivered to Central Supply Depot White City
July 1916 - transferred to Italian Government as pattern aircraft

1961 - the parts were noted with the Nash Collection at London Airport
1963 - moved with the collection to Upavon
1966 - at RNAY Fleetlands for rebuild

Lukasz has now posted Ansaldo Baby renders to the Lukgraph Facebook page.

This will be full resin kit.

32-24 Ansaldo Baby - Italian service (2 painting schemes)
The set will contain an engine printed directly in 3D technology, Le Rhone type J and engine covers (2 types).
The Italian version (Ansaldo Baby) also has a different hull.
In addition, decals, masks and of course photo-etched parts and transport trolley (in all versions).
It's a plane completely designed in 3D technology.

Lukasz has advised that while the final price of the kit is not yet known he is hoping to keep it under 99 Euros.

The news are that Santa is bringing the British kit version to me in a couple of days  :D. I will be glad to show some photos of the contents as soon as I get it. I was also told the kit will be of the top quality, Lukgraph has apparently a brand new moulding gear.
And yes, the K with red checkboard on the engine cowling  N2071 is surely one of three colour options in the said British boxing. It will be my next project, just when the RE8 is finished, it seems.
Time of plenty it is, indeed!

I'd love one but at $178 Australian I don't think I'll get permission, time to sell some surplus WNW kits I think.

As more details come available it looks to me that Lukasz has come up with a real winner with this release. I'm looking forward to seeing the in box shots in the next several days, a great addition to the 1:32 Scale stable we have to choose from. As von Buckle has said, "a time of plenty"! Best of luck to Lukgraph, a great effort by initial appearances.
Cheers,
Lance

Hello,
I want to show everyone the new Lukgraph Resin Kits model - Sopwith Baby in 1/32 scale.
I will not describe the history of the aircraft, anyone who is interested in it will get the news alone  :)
So let's start  :) :
At the beginning of :

BOX - it is extremely small compared to other manufacturers and containing a large amount of details as shown in the pictures
(https://i.imgur.com/RIfwYLl.jpg)

Then we start looking at the details and we start with: the hull - it is made very carefully, seam lines are visible, the hull scaffolding is slightly outlined and inspection hatches. As for the material itself, it is very delicate and very thin as seen in one of the pictures.

We have two engine covers, and here there is a "small" problem - it is not known which version to be painted should be checked, and there it turns out that it is not known until after looking at the hull, everything is slightly explained (you can check the instructions).

We now move to the WINGS:
they are made almost the same as with WnW or CSM, except that it must be borne in mind that it is resin. The ribbing lines are very delicate and just look beautiful. The only objections I can have are a slight surface roughness.
Ballasts offer the same quality as wings
(https://i.imgur.com/Zyj4nJo.jpg)

FLOATS:
They are made as one element and have a very nice outline.

ENGINE:
It is made entirely in 3D format and what can be said here is simply beautiful.

The same applies to rifles and bombs
(https://i.imgur.com/ogVL9hk.jpg)

"Small" parts
Braces, interior parts and small parts of the hull - what to write here are beautifully reproduced and whether everything is OK, it will turn out during assembly.

Now photo-etched parts and decals.

In the next post, instructions and general observations.

Conclusions:
The model for a resin presents a high level and it can be said that competition for powers like WNW and CSM is getting underway. However, there are some small shortcomings associated with the material which is resin, but so are the models made in this technology.
I have reservations about the lack of descriptions of individual details and parts. The manual seems to be at a high level but has small to medium shortcomings as is the case with the engine cover version. You can also have reservations about the lack of at least a description of a given painting when and where it was used, but the inquisitive can find it, however, should be signed to paint versions.
We have already got used to the lack of a paint producer, so it is not a lack.

Summing up, I recommend this model to everyone, regardless of small shortcomings that will improve over time (I hope), all the more because Lukgraph is my native company

Looks like a beautiful kit produced to a high standard.  Definitely fills a gap for the 1/32nd crowd.
