Title: Announcing the winners of the Des Delatorre Memorial Group Build competition
Post by: Dave W on September 08, 2019, 11:11:59 AM
The biggest group build competition in the history of the Forum is completed, with 49 entries and 25 completed models for judging. Now the five judges, who were blown away by the astonishingly high quality of the entries, have made their decisions.

The Grand Prize winner of the Des Delatorre Memorial Group Build competition is Ken Mouton (P9o1r1sche) of the USA for his spectacular 1/32 scratchbuilt Hanriot HD2.

I am Honored to be recognized in a Group Build that included such spectacular Builds. Congrats to Ken, Mike, and Brad on the Very Well Deserved Honors. I have had the privilege of seeing the Hanriot in person and it is indeed a Model worthy of the Grand Prize! Most of all I want to thank Dave for Organizing the build, all of the Modelers for participating, the Judges for doing a great job under difficult circumstances, and God Bless Des for Starting this Great Forum!

Likewise, many many thanks Dave + sponsors + judges for organising this competition. The results have been a very fitting tribute to Des and Adrienne and have been an impressive showcase of the excellent work done by modelers on this forum. I feel very humble to be on that list at all, and in awe of the Grand and Major prize winners - and everyone else, to be honest. I love that Hanriot!

If it's possible to pull something like this together next year, I can see everyone pushing their standards to better what they've already done this time around.

Big cheers,
Mark

I am very happy to be honored with the grand prize of this inaugural Des Delatorre Memorial Group Build.  Or course, the best prize is the model that was created for the build as it represents a lot of 'firsts' for me as a builder.  I had thought about building the Hanriot for some time but the group build was the impetus to do it!

I want to publicly thank Dave for organizing and running this build, the judges for doing the truly difficult job of ranking these builds, and the sponsors for donation of the great prizes.  I also want to recognize Des' vision for this forum as place for people to learn about the Great War and remember the sacrifices of those who fought it.

Congratulations to Mike and Brad, as well as all the other prize winners, as they were well deserved.

I had a great time participating in this build and I believe it was a lot of fun for all who took part in it.  Now I'm looking forward to the current builds going on and those of the future!

Keep on modeling!

Thanks to Dave for organising this event - a real tribute to Des who of course was a master modeller but also a very patient teacher and respecter of modellers of all standards. Thanks too to the judges - I am just pleased that it was you and not me who had to make the decisions!

Several people have asked me when the next Group Build will be run and the honest answer is - not yet! These events take a lot of organising and they don't finish when winners are announced.

Here's a peek at my table today with a stack of posting boxes being filled with Roden prize kits to be dispatched around the world to GB winners.

These kits are heading for Germany, Poland, USA, UK, Canada and NZ which emphasises just how international our forum has become.

Congratulations for all winners of the Des Memorial Group Build. They are well deserved and I like the models made by the winners very much. It continues to show the high standards of builds that I have got accustamed to on this excellent Forum!

Today I also saw that there's an after build! That's a nice idea. I'm afraid it will not work as I'm abroad for work the coming weeks and in the meantime during holidays (I always take something to build with me during holidays and my family has gotten used to that  ;) ) I usually do not take with me polysterene models as they are too fragile.

My build since the partly finished Fokker D.III now:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48740118857_a3b1313ab3_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2hfZRfR)

Kit with nickelsilver PE and brass and copper cast fittings. Kit production about 25 pieces...

The original served with the dutch national railways between 1901 and 1955, so fitting in the ww1 era  ;)

Ivo

Hey Terri, Hannants still has Bren Gun Brass PE sets for it (I got one recently) and it's worth the price for the "chin' engine panel alone, highly recommended and I know you have a particular interest in this aircraft. Some photos of the results that survived the "Photo Bucket Purge" here:

Hannants order info here, "Ya know ya gotta have it!"

Congratulations on your win!
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks for the Bren Gun order info Lance. I had done a search a few weeks ago and couldn't find one. Now just need to get SWMBO to OK the purchase  ;D

Today I have received the parcel from Australia. My Des Memory GB prizes have arrived!!! Thank you, Dave, for careful packing and describing the contents so that the visit at the customs was avoided!

As you see I was given Roden's Nupe 24bis and, above all, a model which touched my heart very much. It is A-model Nupe 11 but the make is not so important. What matters most is that it is the kit coming directly from the stash Des was building from. To know that this kit was meant by Him to be built and that He was touching it, makes me feel as if Des was still somewhere here. I feel His spirit around me... I will certainly try to build this kit, to honour our Mentor.

Once again, thank you Dave for making that GB happen. And I hope we will have subsequent editions thereof.

Amazing lovely prizes... and Congratulations to the Winners! I see your prizes will result in amazing blogs for us mere mortals! All The Best, Marc.

Hi Guys,

Pleased to be associated with both tightly-fought contests-it was not an easy judging task thanks to the high bar set by all the entrants..Well done all those

who participated and let's hope we can do it all again another time! :)

Cheers,

Ray R.
