Following the popularity of their 1/32 scale Nieuport 17 kits Copper State Models is now considering its next kit subject choice, and Forum members are invited to suggest what the next model should be.
Modellers’ wish lists have become a popular feature on hobby sites but in this case, Copper State is an active member of our Forum and they’re listening to your ideas.
Since its launch with the 1/48th scale Sopwith Dolphin, Armstrong Whitworth FK.8s, Caudron G IVs, resin Handley Page O/400 and the 1/32 Nieuports, Copper State has revolutionised aircraft modelling, and its acclaimed 1/35th scale Lanchester armoured car has led to a Russian version and other armoured cars due for release soon.
Here’s the chance for Forum members to speak up and give Copper State your wish list for the next subject.
Please post your wants in this thread, mindful that the subject should have some commercial sales potential. Other than that, it’s over to you to say what kit you would like to see and would buy.

Hi,
on top of my wish list for CSM next subject - there are three points in 1/32: Hanriot HD1, Morane Saulnier AI and F.E.8.
8)
buzby
-
FF. 33. FE. 8 would be very fine, too.
-
The Hobbycraft SPAD XIII has been OOP for a long time so I would love to see a new one( 1/32nd of course) Moving beyond the obvious is All 1/32nd:
1 .BE12
2 .Breguet 14
3. FE8
4. SPAD 11 or 16
5. Halberstadt DII or DIII with a twin gun option as used in Jasta 4.
6. Sopwith strutter.
7. More NIeuports of later versions
when the Niuport was announced and released I had a fear that WNW would release one and knock them out of the game. Having built 2 of the Nieuports I no longer have that fear. CSM can go head to head on quality and detail with them or anyone else!
RAGIII

Hanriot and Breguet,or anything Austro-Hungarian.
-
I would like a Eindekker, the Moran Saulnier Typ N "Bullet" with correkt interieur and exterieur, please.
Greetings from Bavaria
Bertl
-
I hope, these two are realiseable choices: Hanriot HD.1 for a plane in 1/32th scale and for an armoured car in 1/35th scale a german Ehrhardt vehicle.
-
I would love to see a Hanriot HD.1, SPAD VII or XIII or a Phonix D.I/D.II.
Mike
-
Oh, yes, and those k.u.k.-airplanes could be proper topics for CSM!
-
I would love to see a 1/32 scale Hansa Brandenberg D.I, or any other Austro-Hungarian subject.
Cheers,
Bud
-
I love the Hanriot, but I strongly suspect WNW will do it, as they have one at TVAL.
I would like to see a starstrutter- no rigging, quirky.
Macchi M5 for the colour schemes.
Albatros DIII oeffag would be a sure hit, with extra boxings for other versions doable
The Sopwith strutter offers a lot of options too.
-
Start with upscaling the caudrons though!
-
A first rate Saulnier Bullet would be delightful, no doubt... but as for commercially viable?....the obvious choice that would fly off of Copper State shelves, pun intended, would of course be 1/32 scale Belgian and Italian Hanriots…forget trying to second guess Peter Jackson...it's (wonderfully) futile....but I too would love a Phonix DI/DII.
-
In 1/32 scale it would be great if Copperstate were to do a whole family of Nieuports, starting with the 10 and 11 and working up to the 28. I understand that the Nieuport 21 and 23 are on the way. Austro Hungarian subjects, such as the Phonix D.I and II and Aviattic Berg series would be fantastic, too.
-
I think a Spad would be very popular.
I do wonder whether the guys at WNW’s would at least give you an inkling - if you said you’re planning on so and so, surely they would say go ahead or hold back.
The Wingnut’s Lancaster must surely have had a dramatic effect on HK’s Lanc?
Guy
-
My humble suggestions: Hansa Brandenburg D I, Oeffag Albatros, Halberstadt D II - all 1:32 scale. And 1:35 Ehrhardt...
Jörg
-
I forgot: Caudron G III 1:32...
Jörg
-
Some very good suggestions in the thread already. Probably repeating what some already have said – but:
An Albatross OEFFAG 153/253
A 1:32 version of the Caudron GIV
An Albatross W.4
and while I'm dreaming – A Caproni CA.3
/Mikael
-
1/32 Hanriot HD.1/2 combo kit.
1/32 SPAD VII or XIII would be my first choice, but I think NWN is finally going to get to it since the Camel and DR.1 finally made their catalog. Yes, I think CSM could certainly do a SPAD as well as NWN.
Gene
-
Fokker D. II
Nieuport 11 and 16
SPAD VII
-
WNW won't listen to me, but I think an Albatros D-III would be a great next model. It was used at one time or another by most of the great aces, most Jagstaffel and there are a million different markings. It is literally the Bf 109 of the First World War

Personal view, but I think the 1/32 modellers have been spoiled for the last few years ;) ... so how about something for us 1/48 modellers? Perhaps a new tool RE8 to replace the ancient Aeroclub kit, or perhaps a new 1/48 Sopwith pup?
Cheers,

FE-8 nuff said :)

A Halberstadt D.II would be nice too,not sure how it would sell though.
-
I would like to see a Aviatik D.I or a Hansa Brandeburg D.I. I had bought the Lanchester in 1/35, but I would like to see more vehicles in 1/32 to go with the aircraft.
-
Spad XIII
Hanriot HD1/2
of course some risk WNW will do those as well but who knows
-
Short 184 seaplane would be great, or a Clayton Crawler tractor to go with WNW HP O/400
-
I will stick with Hanriot, lots of colourfull options there.
Second would be for me a FE.8, just love pusher planes.
and going with that theme, a long shot, the AGO C.I, that I would love to have in either 1/48 or 1/32
-
My.
A 1:32 Caudron GIV
Voisin 3,10
A Caproni CA.3
-
Personal view, but I think the 1/32 modellers have been spoiled for the last few years ;) ... so how about something for us 1/48 modellers?
Definitely YES.
Just one word: K.U.K pls ;D
-
I'd be very tempted by a Hanriot HD2 (or 1) and definitely go for a Caudron in sea or land version both at 1/32.
I have the CSM Nieuport and although I haven't started it, all the evidence is that it is a very good kit - bring on more!!
A good time for WW1 modellers indeed! ;D

Tell that to my limited cabinet space...! ;D

There's some great suggestions in this thread so I'll add my model wish - the DH5. There's something about this quirky backstagger winged fighter which replaced the DH2 that appeals. In 48th and/ or 1/32 scale would be fine. Or both!

1/32 Spad, Hanriot, Albatros D3
1/48 Anything really
But I’d really like to see some Austrian and Italian flying boats in either scale
-
my first choice would be a SPAD XII, but i'd be content with a XIII.
Hanriot HD.1/2..
OEFFAG Albatros...
Breguet 14
Star Strutter....
1 1/2 Strutter....
Ilya Mouromets!
all 1/32, i don't have any opinion on 1/48 since i will never buy anything in that scale. Some of these seem likely for WNW to do but the Nieuport shows that Copper State have nothing to fear. between Copper State and WNW, i'd buy whoever's gets released first. and in most cases, multiples. (not the Ilya Mouromets, i gotta save some space in case someone releases a Zeppelin-Staaken...
-
I'll add my fantasy list to the board; any /all of the OEFFAG Albatros, "Strutter", and Fokker D.III and in 1:32 Scale of course! We have available a stable of Albatros Fighters and the OEFFAG would complete the set nicely. I have to add that we are spoiled with the inventory available and Copper State's entry into the larger scale fray with their superb Nieuport XVII is a sign of greater things to come! :)
Cheers,
Lance
-
We all want Copper State to:
a) succeed, by producing a kit that will sell well for them
b) fill a gap we'd all want filling - and want to buy
c) offer something with lots of markings choices.
Has to be a SPAD XIII - but only if WNW don't have one lined up in the wings. Wonder if they'd break the silence to CS, maybe with a signed NDA?
-
Would a Zeppelin Staaken be possible?
-
If it is as nice as their Nieuport, I am down for whatever they decide.
-
I'm with you, Dave!
DH.5 all the way :)
von B
-
Friedrichshafen G.III
Friedrichshafen Float Plane - Any
Hanriot HD.1
Zeppelin Staaken

Will also like to add a Pfalz DVII/III in 48 or 32 scale
Terri

Would love top see some of the 1/48 kits scaled up to 1/32. Especially early war ones and seaplanes. The Cauldron's especially.
James
-
going to add my two pennys worth would love to see aviatik berg d1,or a lonher sea plane, nieuport 11 albatross 153/253,spad vii, sopwith baby, macchi m5,and anything else has been coverd by other peoples wishes so ill leave it there ,thank you and goodnight, ;D
-
The obvious answer for me would have been a 1/32 Fokker DR.I, but the recent WNW announcement changes that.
I think CSM would be wise to try to deliver a kit highly demanded by WNW modelers, but not offered by WNW for whatever reason.
A SPAD would probably be the obvious choice, but I don't particularly like those myself!
Also, giving us something Austro-Hungarian, French, or Italian could give CSM an edge relative to WNW as they seem to refuse to release kits of aircraft from those countries.
I would only be interested in a 1/32 release.
-
I would whip out my wallet and buy, without a nanosecond's pause for thought:
SPAD XII - some great schemes, many ace pilots, cannon armament
Morane L - bags of significant history, famous pilots
Oeffag Mickl H - unique and fab looking machine
FWIW I've been gathering a few bits and might even try to scratch the last two, but the SPAD XII has subtle lines I couldn't do justice to, and only superficially resembles the VII or XIII so I don't think a conversion is on.
I'd be very interested in, and be likely to buy:
SPAD XIII
Lohner flying boat, especially L47
SSW D.IV
Oeffag 153
Sorry for repeating wishes from elsewhere, but there you go, no point in keeping quiet if someone asks! Great to know that Copper State are listening.
Cheers
Mark
-
Easy -- SPAD XIII or SPAD VII -- both are often requested, and being French, highly unlikely to be done by WNW. They had multiple users during their service lives. I love my CSM Nieuport, and want them to have continued success. The SPAD should be just the ticket, a great seller, plus it's # 1 on my bucket list.
-
my wishes are so simple.... a Spad XI or XVI ,a hanriot HD1 or the multiplace HD3 and why not..... just a Caudron RXI
-
Macchi 5
Steve
-
As long as you're asking, I would enjoy 1/32 versions of the following:
First choice: SPAD VII and/or SPAD XIII
Second choice: Hanriot HD 1
Third choice: DH-4
Thanks for the opportunity to have some input.
Rick
-
BE2c in any scale!
-
PS: If CSM release one of their Caudron kits scaled up to 1/32, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
There is one sitting at the Udvar Hazy center for reference and it's one of my favorite WWI aircraft of all time.
Also, the Hanriot HD.1 which has appeared here seems to be quite popular in these type of "wish threads". It comes up a lot.
That's another really nice looking aircraft.
-
Thank you guys, for your ideas and support)
I see some of the ideas are possible and pretty real for us)
And something is already in development
As for me I like twin-engine planes myself))
-
Brilliant Edgar - a Hansa Brandenburg G.I - I'll buy one!
-
For me, how about a 1/48 scale Junkers CL. II or J.I.
Kevin
-
As for me I like twin-engine planes myself))
But ... but .... but if that's a hint, aren't most (by far) of the suggestions single engine? ???
Gene K
-
Beyond CSM's entry into the 1/32nd arena (which is every bit as exciting to me as the millennial advent of WNW) I was thrilled to see Copper State Models reinvigorated and building steam.
I'd like to see CSM produce the Phönix D.I/II, Halberstadt D.II, Airco D.H.5, Hanriot HD.1/2, and I could certainly go for some of the earlier allied types such as the Voisin, Vickers Gunbus, Sopwith Tabloid, and Bristol Scout in 1/48th and/or 1/32nd.
-
Anything from the Austro-Italian front, including Lohner/Macchi flying boats. But I'm sure that any kit they will issue will be a gem like their Nieuports, and I will be gladly buy at least one.
Ciao

I hope that Copper State will not forget their devoted 1:48 following, and grace us with the G.IV’s little brother, the G.III in 1:48.

Taube!

Oh, yeah. I nearly forgot. I would also really love to see Copper State re-issue some of the earlier resin 1/48 kits in plastic, such as the Dornier, the Pfalz Dr.I, the AEG C.IV, the Aviatik C.I, the HB W.12 and especially the Lohner B.II. Oh, and lets not forget the Rumplers, early Nieuports and Taube. There. I think I've said enough.
Cheers,

As others have requested, k.u.k.!

My recs would be: Voisin III or V, Nieuport 11/16, Halbertstadt D.III/D.V, and Albatros C.III.

I see that CSM has announced 3 new Nieuports, XXI, XXII and XXIII, which should be welcomed to the Nieuports which they've already released.

Although I am really happy with the three new Nieuports comming, I‘d be even happier if CSM would upscale their brilliant 1:48 kits, the Caudron G. iV in particular.

Thanks for putting that out there, Amigo! CSM is working on a lot more than they're telling us about. Doing multiple Nieuport boxings will meet the demands of those asking for RFC and Russian aircraft as well as provide the capital for future projects. Remember, this is a small company. Hell, Edgar's wife is the order fulfillment department and she has a new born to take care of. I think that giving us 2 new armored cars and 5 1/32 scale aircraft kits in a 1 year period under those circumstances is pretty amazing.

knowing this, and being a team player and all, i vow to collect the whole set. i'll need at least two more late XVIIs, and decals for Italians, too.
i think releasing all variants is GREAT, but (clearly) i'm a collect-the-whole-set type.
seeing this release pattern i'm hoping the single seater is a SPAD, and that it will mean eventually a SPAD S.XII is in the pipeline.

Exactly what I was alluding to in my last post. Couldn't give specifics since Edgar made me swear not to let the cat out of the bag, so there you have it. A Starstrutter is on the way and you can bet it's gonna be spectacular.
I'm sure that the WNW hint is for an Oeffag D.III. More will be revealed at Telford.

My US$.02: 1. Halberstadt DII/DIII, 2. Voisin III, 3. AW FK8, 4. Hanriot HD1, 5. LVG. C.II

Yes...a 1/32 Halberstadt DII w/ Richtofen option...(although it could be a job running down the serial number...I can't find it but Edgar & co. are excellent researchers)...or a DH5, same scale...or a Phonix DI w/ Linke-Crawford option.
-
A Vickers Gunbus, Voisin, all sound awesome in 1/32. Would also love to see them do in 1/32 an Albatros D.I & Albatros D.III.
-
A better D.III which gives you the addition of the OAW and the Austrian variants.
-
Hi
I think a new WNW quality SPAD vii or Albatros III would be a good money maker to make the other great selections here. Although the Roden Albatros’ and SPAD xiii are pretty good.
-
Anything they do will be nice. Many good suggestions in here. Whatever they do, I will buy it. They are the only company doing WNW-superior-quality models in 1/32 scale.
-
Hi all,
I'm still holding out and wishing for the Hansa-Brandenburg D.I 'Star Strutter',
Mike
-
I'm a 1/48 fan, so anything they would make in that scale would be great. I already have there FK8, Caudron G.IV, and Dolphin in 1/48. It would be nice if they bring back or update some of their old resin kits.
As for new planes, I would like to see the following:
Spad 11: Lots of great paint schemes in US, French, and Belgium!
Spad 16: Great French and US options. There is a restored Spad 16 in the National Air and Space Museum in Billy Mitchell's scheme.
Caudron R11: Unique three-seat escort fighter
As far as I know, none of these have been modeled in 1/48 (or any scale?)
-
in order of preference
OEFFAG Albatros D.III
Hanriot HD.1
DH.4
Martinsyde S.1
Roland D.II
-
Another vote for the DH.4!
-
Although I do not like this wishlist-thing, at least not for Copper State Models, as Edgar has said and written many times that WW1 aircraft kits for him are not money making, but money spending projects for CSM. If we buy enough of his wonderful armoured cars, he might do a single seater, perhaps the Starstrutter. So this wishlist thing to me is more a self-satisfying thing, nothing that will trigger Edgar to tackle one or another of our wishes here, I am afraid. Having said this I have to admit that many of those wishes here appeal to me, too. Sadly mostly twin-seaters like the DH.4… But most appreciated by me would be a Halberstadt Cl.IV: It's a twin-seater, but as small as a single-seater…
Happy modeling, all!😊
-
Hi,
True. He might change his mind. If not maybe only Special Hobby remains an option for continuing 1/32 in injection moulding( or a new company) Lukgraph are knocking out of the park with resin.

Don't forget Roden. Vladimir has told me that as soon as Ukraine deals with the Russian invaders the good folk at Roden will be back at work to produce more 1/32 models. The Spad XIII Late is near, the Avro 504K is in development and the Sopwith One and a Half Strutter is on the list too.
Special Hobby are aware of the Hanriot topping our most wanted poll. Copper State has a Bristol Scout in development and the Hansa Brandenburg D.1 is still in their planning. But don't expect CSM to tackle big two seaters given their cost/ sales return issues. Small single seaters are more likely.

Hi,
True. He might change his mind. If not maybe only Special Hobby remains an option for continuing 1/32 in injection moulding( or a new company) Lukgraph are knocking out of the park with resin.
Yes, Lukgraph becomes more and more interesting! But as for now I am still a bit shy as I have never before worked with resin… (not to mention all the other materials involved, like 3D- printed plastic, photo etched parts, brass and the like.. 😨) Might thatbe a new attac of German Angst?! 😱

So, no Halberstadt Cl.IV from CSM for me, Dave? 😥

Also 'Lukgraph' that are producing models not already covered and at the rate of 4 to 6 a year,

Feels like Lukgraph sticks to early war and or floatplane two seaters but maybe a Halb Cl.IV would fit at some point into their lineup or maybe one of the later war Albatros two seaters....

I would love to see a 1/32 Caudron G.4.
They have the work on the G3 in that scale already done, and they've done the G.4 in 1/48 scale already.
So hopefully they can pop out a G.4 in 1/32 without too much trouble.
Seems like a no brainer in the wake of the 1/32 G.3, but who knows.

Hm, Edgar recently wrote somewhere that a kit of a Caudron G.IV would not simply be a G.III with one more engine to it, but a whole new approach. And it would be a huge and, thus, expensive kit. And, given the fact that CSM doesn't make their money with 1/32 WW1 aircraft-models which don‘t sell all to well, but with their 1/35 armoured cars, there's not much „probability“ for a G.IV in 1/32th scale - unfortunately.

You are correct! He also said that the HBD1 Starstrutter would take 10 years to pay off the mold/ development costs. So we should be grateful that He/ CSM are planning to go ahead with that one eventually. For Me I am content with what he has planned and will develop at his own pace. I am looking forward to the Bristol Scout for sure. CSM is as good as WNW but we should remember it isn't much more than a one man show and doesn't have a Wealthy Benefactor 8)

Well said Richard and Rick!
I was drawn like a moth to a flame by the caption of this thread, and spilled my guts when asked what I wanted, but we have to be realistic.
I think what Edgar does as a one-man-band is absolutely great and we should admire him about it!

So what the three of you are saying is: I shouldn't suggest a CSM 1/32 Vickers Vimy kit after all? ;D

FE-8 , 1/48 or 32 scale

Nooooo, KiwiZac, got me wrong! Everything up to a Jumbo Jet is fairly ok! 😁

Well, that's two of us at least!

Make that three, Zac.
I didn't mean it as harsh as it sounded. I'm still hoping for a HP O/400 in 1/32 :P

AVRO 504K
1 1/2 Strutter
SPAD XIII (late)
And don't you say „Roden will do those“: As I don't like „re-engineering“ kits, but simply want to build them, I would love to have those in CSM-quality (knowing this wish will stay a wish)!
But don't you get me all to wrong: I really like e.g. Roden's Siemens Schuckert SSW D.III and sure will buy their 504K, Strutter and SPAD!
Happy modeling!
Ranting Richard 😁

The possibility of that is not so far fetched. There are some WNW molds out there that were on the verge of release when WNW went belly up.

I have to admit I made it as a jokey suggestion as a 1/72 Vimy is all I need, but a 1/48 could be fun for my purposes too.
