Hi all - probably a silly question, but did the RAF1 engine (which powered things like BE2s) utilise the same cylinder body as the RAF4a engine (which powered things like the RE-8)? I understand the RAF4a was based off of the RAF1, but i'm not exactly sure to what extent.
Thanks in advance,
Brad

Brad, Vintage Aviator has got some really detailed photos of both the RAF 1 and the RAF 4a during the build process. Just at a glance, I would say the RAF4a engine could be used on everything in 1/48 scale but the earliest BE2s. Copper State has an excellent RAF4a kit available.
Cheers,
Bud

Many thanks Bud - it looked to my eye that the cylinder bodies were the same, but wanted to check. I have plans for a future project that will need an RAF1 engine; I have a couple of the lovely copper state engines and thought (hoped) that I could steal the cylinders :)
Thanks again,
BC
