Having agreed to be part of the Judging Panel for our Des Delatorre Memorial Group Build my participation in the event was restricted thus I elected to do a dedicated Build in tribute to Des independent of the contest. This model was entered in the IPMS 2019 Western Canadian Region Model Contest on 08 June and was awarded the Gold Medal for it's category of WW.I Aircraft. A full Build Log is contained at:

The Model represents an aircraft of Jasta 17 at Douilly France in March of 1918 flown by the Unit's Commander, Hptm.Freiherr von Esebeck. The markings are from Pheon Decals, the Lozenge pattern on the wings from Aviattic and the fuselage finish is Winsor Newton Oils over Tamiya Acrylics. Rigging was done with Maxima "Chamelion" .005 inch mono and a combination of Bob's Buckles and GasPatch turn Buckles. Scratch built additions include various cockpit components and the propeller was hand laminated and carved from wood veneers.

I see good old Machro mode has revealed some dust accumulated from the packing of the model for it's travels and also that I missed painting the bungees on the tail skid; both will be rectified!
I enjoyed this project and have several other "Albies" I'd like to add to my collection, it's a wonderful Kit and very typical of the superb Wingnut Wings line.
This one's for Des and Adrienne, I'll always miss our occasional long distance (and duration!) chats as we "waxed philosophical" about the Hobby and life in general. Blue skies always .......

As I have already commented Lance - congratulations on the medal and this is a most fitting tribute to Des. It is a shame that you could not enter it in the GB because I for one would have awarded it a prize if you could have done. A stunning build with a striking colour scheme - and the rigging and extra details are just superb. Many congratulations on an outstanding build.
Stephen.

Like I have said this one is a Gorgeous build all around! The prop, rigging, painting, decaling and detailing all are first class. The Albatros DV is My favorite of the WNW kits and you have set a benchmark for My current build. Exactly what Des used to do with his builds...Inspiring others!

Lance, this is really a beautiful Albatros and well deserving gold medalist. I really like the wooden propeller and the wing decals with shadows looks fantastic. The rigging looks also perfect, you take here a good advantage of the big scale.
This is a great tribute to Des, I'm sure he would like it.

Many Thanks Dave, and always good to hear from you again! Dark side?? A break is good for the soul and I hear that's quite a kit; not for me though but then again there's been a few "between the wars" kits turning up mysteriously in my Stash of late. ::)
