Title: Question for Bob Booth (or anyone else who uses Ultra Mask)
Post by: wmoran on June 07, 2019, 05:54:52 PM
Bob,

I know in past posts you have said you use Artool Ultra Mask for cutting stencils.  There are quite a few people who frequent LSP.com who cut their own stencils with Silhouette cutters.  The majority of those people use Oramask 810, probably due to the lower cost, with Tamiya masking sheets coming in second.  The one drawback I have heard of about Oramask 810 is that if you wait too long after cutting the stencil to use it, the vinyl tends to shrink, ruining multi-part masks.  I don't know if you have any experience with Oramask 810, but have you noticed the same problem of shrinkage over time with Ultra Mask?

I used the info I've come across on LSP.com because I've been spending more time there than here lately.  I've had to go back to building WWII aircraft, which I'm more familiar with, in order to rebuild my skill set before trying to tackle WWI models again.  I kept screwing up, and I can't afford to do that with WNW kits.

Thanks,
Bill

Hello Bill,
I have used both 810 Ora and Artool's Ultra Mask.
My personal preference swings towards Ultra Mask everytime. You do seem to get less (if any) shrinkage with UM.
Yes, it's more expensive, but it's worth it in the long run.

Hope this helps.  ;)
Cheers,
Bob
