Title: WnW FE-2B Early - Completed
Post by: LT1962 on February 07, 2019, 03:57:57 PM
Well I am thinking I will have a go with this one. It usually takes me about 6 months to complete a WnW kit, dunno how I will go with this monster.

A very nice but also complicated kit. I have done it and had a lot of fun, but rigging was a bit complicated.

That one is still on my workbench and has a break at the moment. I love this kit, but, as Manni said, it has its difficult steps. Have fun with it, it’s one of the coolest looking airplanes of WWI in my opinion.

A lovely subject and really worth building! My humble skills couldn't manage this ... but there is no reason you cannot do a great job of it if you work steadily at it!
All the Best,

Its really hard to appreciate the size of this kit. Anyway here are the wings which can be seen against the standard size WnW instruction booklet.

......and what better way to start knowing there is going to be lots of rigging. A couple of hours making up some eyelets.

Rigging eyelets are good! You will need a fair amount.... Regards, Marc.

Great subject!

I've built one and it's my preferred build.

Lot to see on this BIG plane   :D

I'll follow

As I thought, this will be slow going. Getting those wings licked into shape.

If going slow means looking this good, then by all means go slow.  I really like what you have done so far.

Ive started on the nacelle now that the wings are nearly finished. Still about another 100 eyelets to CA in place.

I had an issue with some red paint on the rudder that did not dry matt and remained tacky. Managed to google a solution to that with some clear varnish and a few drops of drier. 24 hours later it was resolved. I also managed to spill a small bottle of thinners over one section of the wing just as the finishing touches were being done. That held me up for a while.

Work on the struts has also begun.

Looking great and looks like are flying through it. Six months is an easy target at your rate.  :)

Cheers

Yes,like Alistair said;I wish I could work to your standard as "slow" as you do.I sure wish I had the self discipline to fabricate the rigging components as a first step.

Sorry for the long time between updates.

I have finally buttoned up the nacelle and installed the Beardmore engine. I have added extra piping in and around the engine based on what I can see in the excellent photos provided with the Wingnuts kit. Fit of the cockpit frame was fairly straightforward apart from the bulkhead behind the cockpit and in front of the radiator. I just could not think of a way to get rid of the join line this creates.

Now I just have some final touches and rigging to add before the lower wings go on.

Thanks for the comments. Lower wings are on now, starting on the upper wings and rigging.

I read an article on fitting the wings that suggested that fitting the upper wing in sections may be an easier way to go so I thought I would give it a go.

I have got the wings in place now. All the interwing rigging has been done and now only some of the control lines are left unattached.

There were no issues getting this far and the rigging was fairly straightforward, just a lot of it.

Work on the tailbooms has started, but I think that it will be a slow process as well getting all the rigging right.

So far, it has been an excellent build with everything fitting exactly as it should. I feel i am on the homeward leg now.

Hope you enjoy the photos.

Sorry for the delay in postings.

The tailbooms are together now and I have started to rig them. They attach nicely into the cut outs in the wings and will sit there without any assistance.

I intend to only rig the rear section of the booms and tail plane before attaching to the wings so that I do not build any distortions into the structure. The booms are quite light and flexible and the tail plane and elevators are quite heavy so there is quite a bit of flex here.

I am using .12 mono for the rigging which is stiffening the structure quite well.

I am sorry that I had not seen this before - cannot resist a pusher, especially a Fee. The model looks very good - and the rigging is simply marvellous. And yes there is rather a lot of it on any pusher!

Very nice model!
With the six struts on each side it has even more rigging lines than a D.H.2 :o
