Title: Sopwith Camel - Belgian Air Force.
Post by: Adam on January 31, 2019, 10:08:13 AM
My Spad VII is finished, it's time to start a new kit.  ;D
SPAD VII was made to celebrate the birth of my grandson in Belgium. Grandfather decided that it would be in the colors of the Belgian Air Force.
10 months ago my second grandson was born in Belgium, so again I decided to celebrate my next grandson.
In my stash I found a kit of Fokker E.V. I thought that Fokker was Dutchman, (grandson lives in the Flemish part of Belgium), and Pheon Decals made decals for this kit from the Polish Air Force, I thought okay, it will be Fokker E.V.  ;D
Before I bought these decals, I decided to see what else Pheon Decals is doing, then I saw Camel decals from the Belgian Air Force, so I decided to buy these decals, and in my favorite model shop I bought a WNW Camel, kit dedicated to these decals.
By the way, I also bought  Fokker E.V decals, good opportunity, the Polish Air Force now is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The pilot Lt. Stefan Stec flying on this plane had a personal emblem the red-and-white checkerboard, when  saw this chessboard, the commander of Polish Air Forces, he decided that this will be the air identification sign of the Polish Air Force.

Time to go to my Camel.  ;D

Lovely, Adam.
After finishing that demanding Spad kit you will have a piece of cake with this one. Enjoy it thoroughly and good luck!

I love that wicker seat -got to try that on mine, too! Interesting on the Pheon decals that some tail markings have the white printed on them (like the pink dots), but others (red stripes) do not.
The decal sheet looks interesting -what version will you be doing?

By the way, shouldn't the framing underneath the aluminium ammunition boxes be black?

Look forward to the next installment! :)

Thank you my friends, I'm glad that you are like it.
Przemek after two models Spad VII and Mojave, here I was surprised that all parts fit together, just Lego blocks.
Jeroen, this Camel will be painted according to the scheme at the bottom right, see picture on the beginning.
Yes you are wright, framing underneath the aluminium ammunition boxes should be black, but now is too late, fuselage is closed now.
Now is the time to show the progress of my work with my Camel.
The wicker pilot armchair presents itself after adding belts from HGW.

This is how the cockpit presents itself.

I'm proud of my painting of plywood on the fuselage.

Now the fuselage is glued together, and the front of the plane is painted white.

Adam,
Great work so far, I really like the rich wood effect on the fuselage and "turtle deck". The chipping on the cowling is perfect, I like the realistic look provided by well controlled weathering. This is a marvelous Kit, I've done two of them and will do several more in future, I'll be following your progress here for more hints and ideas.
Cheers,
Lance

My first reactio on seeing the cowling was this it is metal! The chipping is just perfect: the wood effect is not bad either!

This will be a winniner when it is completed.

Dear friends, thank you very much for your opinions.
Unfortunately, when building my Camel, I forgot to take pictures, I'm sorry.  :-[
I only have a few photos from the already painted fuselage and wings.
Wings are fixed without glue just for test.

There are scratches on the fuselage of the plane.
I saw this photo and decided to do it with Camel with similar scratches.

This image is placed just to show.

Also wings are painted and got decals.

Also wheels are ready.

and machine guns also.

Very nice one, Adam. It makes me want to build a model in Belgian markings one day. A Hanriot would be fine...
