Title: Eduard New Tool Fokker D. VII
Post by: Radarman on January 05, 2019, 04:20:40 AM
I've just read the January Info newsletter on the Eduard website. I see they've announced a May release of their New Tool , 1/72nd scale, Fokker D. VII.
That's great news, in my opinion as I build in all the three main scales. Now if someone would just produce a New Tool Nieuport 28 in 1/72nd. I can only hope.

a few details:

In principle, this will be a scaled down version of the 48th scale kit, but it will be modified to the point where the older and larger version will be mostly unidentifiable. As with our recent releases, we put quite a bit of effort into simplifying construction of this kit, and I think that fans of this scale will be satisfied along those lines as well.
The entire line of Fokker D.VIIs will feature revised lozenge patterns which will reflect the most recent research surrounding this mysterious item. The line of D.VIIs will open with the Fokker D.VII OAW, which I consider to be the most striking of all these aircraft. As with the 48th scale version of the model, most of these 72nd scale kits, except for the Austro-Hungarian MAG, will have two versions of the fuselage and in the case of the OAW, these will be the two last production versions. There is a third version of the OAW being planned as well, allowing the option of building Ernst Udet’s famous red/white aircraft. As noted and to the contrary, the MAG version will offer just the one fuselage type, as there was just the one, but this kit will offer the relevant differences in the radiator and prop, including the popular four bladed type. The MAG will come out in October, it will be available at E-day, and it will also be released as a Limited Edition kit similar to the 48th scale item.”

Mr Sulc

This is the best modelling news I have heard for a long time. I cannot wait for May! I wish you and your crew a very happy new year!

Cheers

These are available to order on the Eduard website. Just ordered 2 each. They are the OAW variant. They have the regular boxing and also the overtrees.

It's a Profi-pack, too, with four markings options, all with five colour lozenge. Just put in a pre-order with BNA Model World today.

Really pitty, that the decal options are not complete ::)

Variant A is the Leusch-Fokker, which is also shown on the box cover ... with blue rib tapes, as it should be.
But: the kit contain only lozenge tapes :o

Really pitty ...
It do not affect me, because I'm building the 48 brother - which is correct here.

For what it's worth i've had a couple of these kits land on my doorstep today - all in all, a beautiful looking kit that should build up quickly and easily (certainly in comparison to the Roden kits, which I have built and which are aren't easy kits to build).

As can be seen from the sprue shots, there are lots of spare parts too. Curiously the variant of the OAW fuselage with the abundance of small cooling vents isn't used as there aren't any kit options for this variant. But the parts are there.

For those that can't wait and want to build a Fokker or Albatros built example, there are radiators for other variants which will aid in conversion of the nose panels. Some minor annoyances (internal cockpit details moulded into side walls) but really, in comparison to the competition, these really are minor.

I still don't like the colours Eduard are using for their lozenge (and to be honest, I never have) - they continue to miss the mark here a bit and i'm really not sure why. It makes me wonder why they don't team up with one of the other manufacturer's whose colours are more accurate.

I expect to see an abundance of builds on the forum once more folks get hold of these little gems :)

Cheers

Just received mine today. Really beautiful and very high quality little kit. Some of the moulding is exquisite. Have a look at the wing ribs under magnification - unbelievable finesse!
Conforms precisely with plans in Fokker D.VIi Anthology 2 (Albatros Productions 1999).
Only slight disappointment, as Brad has mentioned, is the colours of the lozenge. Luckily for me I have the excellent Aviattic lozenge decal set, which seems to fit this kit very well.

Can’t wait to get started!

Congratulations Eduard. This should be a contender for 1/72 kit of the year.

Cheers
