Here's my latest Build, the Wingnut Wings LVG C.VI from the Duelist Set released a year ago. It's finished in Scheme A from the original release, an aircraft from an unknown Unit on the Western Front in 1917-18. The Kit was further detailed with Aviattic Lozenge, a hand laminated and carved wood prop, turnbuckles from GasPatch and Bob's Buckles, HGW Seat Belts, Aeroclub Instrument bezels, and some scratch Built parts as well. The full Build Log may be found at:

Although I had a few difficulties with the Kit they were admittedly self inflicted as is always the case (in my own experience) with Wingnut Kits. Having said that I enjoyed the Build and am pleased with the way the model turned out. I missed this Kit when it was first released in the original four and was very pleased when it was re-released as part of a Duelist packaging. It certainly came at a far better price then what the on-line scalpers were demanding!

I hope you enjoy checking it out.

Lance I like your wood grain on the fuse.
Still deciding on what scheme to do on my Baron build, but there is one with exposed grain...I may give that a shot similar to what you have done here.

Beautifully done, really stunning.
The wood looks incredible, and you've managed to get the rigging absolutely spot on. Many a time misaligned turnbuckles spoil an otherwise great build, but yours look perfectly in line.
It's good that the engine is so exposed, because it shows off the work you've put in to improve it. And that exhaust looks metal - is it a Rexx exhaust, or have you transformed the plastic part?
The gun looks very good. If I was being very, very picky indeed, I would perhaps look to differentiate the bullet feed, where the bullets and the fabric could maybe do with a little paint work to seperate them a little more? Not that there's anything wrong with how it looks at all, I just can't find anything else in the build that's not utterly perfect!
Thanks for sharing, I look forward to your next build, I love learning from builders on here, just so much skill on show.

It was never in doubt Lance - another stunner from a true artist - congratulations,
Mike

A great build log as always Lance. The results are Stunning as always! Beautiful detailing, painting, rigging and weathering! The prop is gorgeous!

Gents,
You are too kind, thanks for the truly wonderful comments.
Dekenba,
The exhaust is Alclad II Exhaust manifold with some very very light dry brushing of copper and flat black here and there. I agree with your observation, the exposed cartridge belt does need a little help, I think I'll try some dark brown wash to break it up a little.
Cheers,
Lance

Must impressive Lance !

Knowing the travails that you experienced with this kit, your comments are too kind, the model turned out to be another masterpiece. I especially like the "varnished" look of the lozenge. Very nicely done. The rigging is top notch and who would guess that there is a "redo" on one of the areas? Not me! Also noteworthy is the scarf ring. I like the way you did that, adds to the model. Sadly, all the effort you put into the interior to correct the errors is not readily noticeable, but we know it's there. ;) Outstanding Lance. Can't add much more. Oh wait! The wood tone is nicely done. I can't seem to get that nice warm "Honey" effect that you achieved with this model. I also noticed the lack of "droop" in the wings. You nailed the dihedral. A solid Bravo Zulu!
-
Thanks much Terri, and you as well Mark, as you know this was my first serious attempt at the lighter wood tone. I got lucky and like the way it turned out, I hope to do the same on a future Albatros Build.
Cheers,
Lance

Your best yet Lance!
Absolutely nailed it.

A very very nice LVG, Lance. Many fine touches and the overall look make it surely stand out. Sincere congratulations.

Another piece of art from a modeling master!
Lance this model is beautiful... the wood grain is really stunning, congrats!

Guy, Prze, and Antonio,
Thanks for looking in and particularly for your most valued and appreciated comments!
Cheers,
Lance

She's truly magnificent, Lance! Everything from the wash on the lozenge, to the beautiful woodgrain tones, to that brilliant prop is first class all the way. As Guy said, this is you best yet!
Cheers,
Bud

Very very nice, really an outstanding model. Although I see the AEG as your Opus Magnum.
Best regards
Andreas

Congrats Lance on a mini-masterpiece, your log was inspirational. Looking forward to your next artwork.
-
Bud, Andreas and Juan,
I have to say I'm flattered and somewhat humbled by comments such as yours. When I think back to the very high standards you all achieve and also include the many others who commented before you I am literally blown away! Thanks for taking the time to look and for your endorsements and encouragement. :)
Cheers,
Lance
-
She's beautiful, and I join the enthusiastic comments on woodgrain: it catches the plywood look perfectly.
Congratulations and many thanks for the graet build log.

Just like to add my congratulations Lance,I'd be proud to put a model half that good in my cabinet.I find your plywood simulation outstanding,as someone who works with the real thing on boats from time to time I think you have it perfectly in scale.I also assumed that was a Rexx exhaust, and that is a lovely prop by the way-I wish I had the patience to learn how to make my own!
Cheers,
Dave.
-
Lance,
You can add me to the many admirers. ;)
Well done!!

Great model Lance. I, for whatever reason, missed the build log so I'm going back over it now!! My son is playing Midget AAA an hour away for the home rink and 2 plus for away games. My bench time went from zero to.....I cant do the math....
Steve

Thank you all, you are far too kind!
Steve, I feel for you and know of what you speak regarding Minor Hockey. I went through a couple of years with my three boys playing at three different levels/Leagues and at the same time was Coaching the local Bantam Rep. Team. Ask me how much leisure time I had?? NOT!

Was not home at weekend, coming back and found your LVG already transformed from construction to completed.
To see the final pictures is great fun! It seems to be a big model, because it was to big to get it complete on one picture 8) Anyway, with such sectional pictures we can enjoy the details much more!
One very nice thing is, that this model show your "personal touch", your "handwriting", even if some aftermarket stuff (e.g. lozenge) was used. This is something I miss often on WNW models on exhibitions. The kits and addition are so perfect, that some models are looking very common and I cannot detect the style of the modeler. Your model is nice, perfect, faithful and still show your style.
I find only one detail with room of improvement - the windmill on top of the airspeed indicator. Gaspactch has one in 1/32 (and 1/48 - this one I build, this was the most impressive resin part I ever used). But I would not change it on the final model (may be the aftermarket is also not correct for your LVG).
Cheers,
Frank

Thank you Frank, I value your comments. I actually have a couple of Gas Patch ASI's and I really like their products. It seemed out of scale, at least for this Build (too big) so I stayed with the Kit version.
Cheers,
Lance

I am back for two days and have just dropped by for a few minutes so this is short. Sorry but I do not have time to do justice to this model - outstanding and brilliant will have to suffice as the summary of my comment. Absolutely stunning Lance - and I agree with Franks comments too.
Stephen.

Many Thanks Stephen, and very much appreciated! I hope your travels have been productive and the schedule slows down for you a bit!
Cheers,
Lance

Very convincing build, Lance! I love the way the lozenge looks on this bird. You have really done a great job. Now, what is coming up next? I am curious.
Bye,
Manni

Thanks Manni. I'm actually taking a break from my focus on WW.1 Aircraft over the Christmas Holidays, I'll post up a brief thread in the appropriate section shortly. ;)

Yes, artwork it is, Lance...as ever, but I do actually believe you outdo yourself with each build...if that's even possible, and I dearly hope the build of your LVG's counterpart, the Clerget Camel, is nigh. -M
-
Thank you very much Doug, you are too kind! I'm pleased to say the Duelist Box is empty, the Clerget Camel was finished (In an alternative scheme) here:
https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=9758.0
I have another Clerget Version that I hope to do as Barker's B 6313 in the new year.
Cheers,
Lance

Very Nice Lance. !
I remember your Camel and look for to seeing which stage you do Barker's !!
Ed
-
very nice LVG - excellent build and finish! So good to see another one built....
-
Thank you both! Ed, I'm still not sure which iteration of B6313 I'll do but I'm leaning towards the earlier configuration.
Cheers,
Lance

Well, that one came out fantastic Lance. Well done. The overall look of the model is spot on. Regards Pete in RI

Thanks for dropping by and for your comments Pete! :)

Somehow I managed to miss the completion of this one... I remember we were in pretty much the same phase when overspraying lozenge decals, but somehow this LVG is beautifully finished and my D.VII still isn't!
That's a very sharp LVG and thanks for making an extensive build log, I know the amount of time it takes, but it is really inspiring! (though I choose a Camel as my next build, thanks to some great Camels featured here, including yours!)

Jeroen,
Thanks for looking in. Those Camel kits are tempting, aren't they!? I have three in the stash and once I finish my "Off Topic" Build I'm tempted to start one.
Cheers,
Lance

Wow Lance this turned out well indeed - congratulations on another masterpiece. Hopefully we'll see this one at the Nanton show!
Cheers,
Gary

Thanks Gary, good to hear from you again! Yes, it's going to the Nanton Contest along with a Camel for now.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

They sure are! I've done some basic engine work and filled a whole bunch of pinholes, more then I could remember on my Fokker. I'll post a build log when I have more to show! :)
That off-topic Voodoo is nice too, I have the Revell 1/72 F-101B as well as the Hasegawa RF-101C -the last one is fully rescribed and pretty much waiting for assembly. Currently too much in WWI-mode, though!
Jeroen
-
I'm looking forward to getting back to a WWI subject, Jeroen. The 101 is proving a long Build, it takes a lot of filling, filing, and sanding to get a decent result with this kit. It will be nice to get back to some good solid engineering with something out of the WWI Stash!
Cheers,
Lance
-
I can imagine that... I have a 1/72 AZ models MiG-17 which is one of the most awfully fitting and most senselessy engineerd models I've ever worked on. I think I used half a bottle of Zap-a-Gap on that, and it's now waiting for primer. I just can't get myself to priming it again, sure I'll find more spots needing sanding and filling. I'm not afraid of sanding an filling, and have built my part of poorly fitting kits, but this one trumps them all. I don't know when, but I will get it done eventually!
Those KH F-101s aren't know for their great fit either.. Good luck!
Jeroen
