Title: How many is too many?
Post by: mike in calif on April 19, 2018, 11:03:17 AM
I was going through some boxes in my storage, and found I have 5, yes, 5 Roden Fokker Triplanes. Decals and schemes for them all, but am I crazy, a hoarder, or just ambitious? perhaps overly?

 Mike,
Now repeat after me , Hi my name is Mike and I'm a Fokkeroholic. But seriously yor're just ambitious. Maybe you were planning a Fokker flight line?
Highest Regards,

Get a grip Mike, good grief, 5 you say?! If it were 5 Camels, as in my case, I could understand ........... but 5 Tripes??
Actually I'd say you're perfectly normal. Relax and enjoy all of them! ;) :) ;) :)
Cheers,
Lance

Sometimes passion becomes obsession, I have six Mc202s (plus three Mc205s) and so probably most of us, with their favourite subjects.
And everyone knows a lifetime will not be enough for all of our models  ;D ;D ;D. So is just a hobbyst behaviour matter...

As a general rule of thumb, look at my stash and subtract 20 and that number will equal "too many" according to your family and friends.

According to me, "too many" doesn't start until I need to rent a separate storage facility.

I only have one F.1 (Encore, Voss, with Pheon/Aviattic decals and figure) so far, but I expect to get one for each of the Richtofen boys at least. And I'm not even particularly *interested* in that bus...

(If ever there was a place to have your hoarding habits affirmed as normal and even a valuable contribution to society, this forum is it!)

Jeff,
Thanks for the thought ......... I was beginning to worry about myself, but now it all makes sense!  ::) ::)
Cheers!

Yes, thank you all for the positive affirmations. I figure one for each of the vR boys, and have some aftermarket decals for 4-5 other planes. I may do two at a time. I like the flightline idea...

There is no such thing.  As long as there are kits in the stash, you cannot die, so I keep adding.  I'm going to live forever.
Cheers,
Bud

After reading this last night i went through my Stash of Eindeckers.

So in 1/72 - 3 (1 Airfix, and 2 Eduard)
1/48 -4 although 1 is a dual combo so does that count as 1 or two?

1/32 - 6 - E1,EII/Early EIII Late EIII and an EIV - Oh and the Duelist.

Lol I seem to be fixated.

I have around 60 to 80 kits in stash, but I build 6 per year. So it sounds not too many.
The problem is simply, that some of the 1:48 kits are old and hard to get still without alternative, so you have to buy the kit after discovery!

You ask what is really too many?
If a optimistic guess of the rest of your lifetime,
divided by the number of kits in your stash
gives a result around some seconds: yes, that are too many! ;D

Cheers,
Frank

It’s only too many when you run out of storage space to keep them all and/or it sends you broke.
If one were to quantify “too many”, I would say any collection of over 2,000,000 kits is too many for one person, if, at the same time you can’t afford to eat.

Otherwise, I’d say it’s perfectly normal behaviour in the context of this community.
 :)

Cheers

Seems to me that's more a case of inadequate housing and/or inadequate income.

Wow
I hardly have a stash at all compared to some here. And I thought I'd got carried away. My mantra though is only build one at a time. Thereby my stash goes down and I can always sell the untouched ones if I need to reduce it otherwise - or so I tell myself...

Talking to a fellow modeller this morning and he stashes - like as all. He called the WNW Felixstowe (and he has one) "divorce in a box". I liked that  ;D!

Cheers,
Alistair

Alistair,
Perfect! I have a fellow Member in our small local IPMS Chapter whose Stash is so large it completely fills the attached garage of the small place he moved to when he recently divorced! We have a meeting today however I won't be sharing your friend's wisdom with him.......... a little close to home methinks!  :) :) ::)

I'm 100% with Bud on this one! Judging by my stash, I should live to be 300 years old!
