I've been working on my first Albatros D.V. This is the first generation of Eduard's rendition of this great looking plane.

I wanted to beef up the undersize 160hp Mercedes and add the fuel tank so I cast new cylinders and a tank. I also made a frame for the cockpit that was missing.

I painted the wings in the standard Green/Mauve scheme then added the decals. Next it was overpainting with red.

in real life you can just see the shades of color underneath the red.
That was all done over the winter. I'm about to put the main parts together.
The fuselage is together but I need to finish the decals.

That's all for now. I hope to finish this before the end of summer.
Happy modeling, Kevin

Great start Kevin, looking forward to your progress.

Not surprisingly I agree with My Amigo Bud! The overpaint is awesome! Also really nice work on the cast cylinders and tank!

That looks great! Is the wood painted or decals?

Thanks everyone for your interest and praise.

The fuselage was painted a Tamiya tan then I've used Prismacolor Pencils to add some grain. I'll add a final tinted clear coat soon.
Thanks again, Kevin

Beautiful start, and excellent painting.

Hello again and thanks to everyone for the support.
This morning I've been adding the needed hardware and brackets. The photo-etch included in with the kit doesn't include the brackets.
The Tom's Modelworks photo-etch set is just the ticket.

Now, back to work.

Thank you for sharing about the pencils! I'm gonna borrow that on my next natural wood.

Hello everyone. A wet and windy Saturday here in Browns Point. I've spent the day making turnbuckles for the rigging.
I plan to use very thin E-Z Line for the wires.

Next I plan to add the guns and work on the water pipes to set me up for the struts and upper wing.
Happy Modeling, Kevin

Hello again to everyone. Thanks to everyone that have offered encouragement. I've made a little progress this week.
I've added the exhaust, which I had to modify, since I had enlarged the kit engine. I've also added so Gas Patch Spandaus.
I made the sheet metal cover that goes over the guns. Since this is an Albatros D.V, I needed the slot for the aileron control lines to pass through.
There is just a little more work in this area before I attach the top wing. Thanks again to everyone,
Kevin

I hope to get the struts on and maybe the wing by the end of my weekend.
Thanks, Kevin

Hello everyone,
Today is the 100th anniversary of the death of Richthofen. Today I'll try to get the top wing of this D.V in place.

This will be the first time I use EZ Line for the rigging. If I get the time, this build should be done in a week.
Thanks and Happy Modeling, Kevin

I remember mounting the wing on this old version of the DV. The PE cabanes gave me fits on two builds. I imagine the Jig will help out with that process
RAGIII

Thanks RAG III for the encouragement! I added some evergreen strip to thicken them. At least they won't snap.
Kevin

Looking good, Kevin!

Here is my last update before it's done and displayed with the Competed Models. Like RAGIII warned, the cabane struts were more fun than anyone
should enjoy in a build. The plumbing to the radiator was also a test in 3D thinking.

I've just got to attach some control cables for the elevator and ailerons, and a brace wire to each side of the nose.
Thanks, Kevin

Outstanding results on Eduards first DV Molding! Having built 2 of these that I never rigged I know just how much work went into this Lovely build!

Thanks for the complement RAGIII! I will build another of these early Eduard D.Vs and maybe document some of my work a bit more.

Beautiful looking Albatros. I particularly like your plywood wood grain finish.
