Title: Eduard Sopwith Triplane
Post by: Softscience on February 12, 2018, 05:37:30 AM
I got a little overwhelmed about what still needs doing on my WnW Albatros, so I set it aside for now, and went back to a scale I'm more comfortable working in.

Work actually began a few days ago by drilling out all the rigging holes, and widening the holes for the wing struts. Eduard gives you little dimples at each of the appropriate location, so its a pretty easy job.

Then I began working on the engine, which has been difficult. I tried to get all the cylinders to line up, but they're just a touch off. Eduard also gives you little PE push rod things, which have been nightmarish, since they don't reach the spark plugs and crankcase completely (probably because my cylinders are off) Is there a resin alternative out there????

The PE seat went much much better.

Good luck on the Tripe! Almost done with mine. Small Stuff Models does excellent resin engines, and they have both the 9z and 9b clerget available. I believe Copper State Models also offers a 9b. I’ve worked with engines from both sources and really enjoyed them. For my Triplane I pirated the engine and PE from their Sopwith Camel kit. My build log is around here somewhere!

I too have used Small Stuff engines and can strongly recommend them Ralph.

Thanks, fellas. Will look for a Small Stuff engine soon.

Meanwhile, the cockpit is getting close to done. There is a lot of brass in there, and its been tricky.

I still need to paint and insert the seat.

Thanks, guys. I have to admit, I'm sort of winging it. The interior has been pretty tricky. It is largely finished now, though. Just the gun mount stuff, but that comes later.

Quote from RAG III  "Your interior is looking awesome!"

That's a lot of very fine detail for 1:48 Scale, very nice work!
Cheers,

Got to agree with Rick and Lance: this is looking extremely good and with a Small Stuff engine will certainly be a winner.
