Title: Eduard Albatros W4 1/48 scale
Post by: Gilly on January 31, 2018, 01:36:23 AM
Originally selected for the group seaplane build light years ago and due to many interruptions only just reaching completion I thought I would post a couple of photos of the protracted operation up to this moment in time

This was a build which had many problems, the majority of my own making and fitting the floats was extremely interesting to say the least, however I am pleased I persevered and am coming to the end, just some subtle weathering to do now  :) apologies for the photo quality folks will get the weathering done and post some more in the completed models section.

One of my favorites Gilly, and you've done a great job on it! This is a project I'd love to do in 1/32 some day, hopefully sooner rather then later, and yours provides a lot of inspiration! 8)
Cheers,
Lance

Very nice model!
This kit is also waiting on my stash for build. So I have to keep an eye on the floats, thanks for the warning.

Cheers,
Frank

Thank you for your kind comments Frank and yes the floats were a challenge to fit to the struts and fuselage, i had to drill the struts out and insert cut off paper clip ca in place then angle the metal roughly to what i wanted before gluing in place then using minor adjustments slotted it all together  :o :o :o :o to be honest I had been putting off this step for ages. I look forward to the time you bring yours out of the stash.

cheers

Beautiful build, Mark.
The woodgrain looks very good. Will get even better when it is weathered. Great!
Bye,

Fantastic work Gilly, the first thing I asked to myself watching at the photos was "How did this guy achieve such a fantastic wood grain effect ?" Then I read the answer...

Great plane, I made a Roden 1/72 and was a very enjoyable build.

Thank you Manni, softscience, dr 1, Juan and andonio so very much for your positive and kind comments , they are all very much appreciated and make the interesting times I struggled with this little beastie well worth it. I have to admit that this little beast reinforced my decision to now concentrate purely on 1/32. I was however going to make one exception to that rule and that would have been my Roden Junkers D1 , however WNW have so kindly now decided to do this in 1/32  :) :) so no more squinting and struggling for me hopefully as my eyes and hands are not what they used to be  ::) Thanks again folks

As promised folks , weathering done, my theory on the weathering was that she would not be the cleanest of aircraft due to the combination of saltwater and extreme weather conditions therefore I think I may have gone a little OTT  :-\ and made her a very dirty girl  :o

Great job on the weathering Gilly, you've got a superb model to really be proud of here! I made the "jump" from 1:48 to 1:32 almost 7 years ago for the same reasons you cite, and I'm impressed with what you did here in the smaller scale, really nice work!
Cheers,
Lance

Beautiful work Gilly. I wish my Eduard W4 model looked as good as yours. This would be a great kit for 1/32 scale too.
