Title: 1/72 Roden Curtiss H-16
Post by: oa5599 on January 18, 2018, 01:53:00 PM
Another older build, 1/72 Roden Curtiss H-16. Sucked in by Roden's phenomenal boxart after previously purchasing the Felixstowe. Was an enjoyable build mostly, just turned out to be very delicate. Once again rigged with monofilament that I was never quite happy with.

A beautifull looking model Sean, even though only 1:72 scale it would still be quite a large model.

Lovely. It is so rare to see this model built. And to think this one, exactly this colour scheme, was my first rigged biplane model, back in 2007... 11 years now. Thank you for showing your fine effort, bringing to me nice recollections!

Sean,
Rigging is no great mystery; Des has an outstanding tutorial on the subject on the Site's Home page, just click the red banner at the very top of this page. With your modelling skills and experience this will be a mere "walk in the park"! BTW, while you're there he has an excellent Build Log on his Scratch Built Caudron G.3 as well.
Cheers,
Lance

Stunning Sean!

I think I would find 1/72 rigging nigh on impossible. That’s a prime reason for 1/32 and using monofilament and bobs buckles it’s pretty straightforward- and super taut!

Great job and effort on this one.  I would like see one of the 1/32nd Feixstowes done up as these U.S. Navy birds.  I have the late version Felixstowe, so wouldn't apply.  I can only imagine the effort put forth to rig this in 1/72nd scale.  Looks fantastic.

Lovely job!

The rigging is maybe a little loose in places, but that could be tightened up with some gentle heat treatment - a heated knife blade or similar. Just be VERY careful not to touch it! Thinner mono may help in future.

That's the first one of these I've seen built, although I have both it and the Felixstowe in the stash.

I take my hat off to anyone who builds models this large in God's Own Scale. That is a superb build of a very large model and one to be really proud of. Congratulations.

Stephen.

Agree with my fellow modelers. Beautiful build.  Might try using a hobby soldering iron and hold it near the loose rigging to allow the heat to tighten it up.

That looks fantastic -still have the Felixstowe with AIMS curly-decals around here waiting to be started!
