Hello all,
Well I managed to get a start on the Bristol. I made some of my own eyelets and then started to add more frame work and some internal rigging. I know you will probably not be able to see much of it. But hey...I know its in there!!

Looks great! I'm planning on trying to do internal rigging for my next model. When you drilled the holes for the crossbraces along the sides, did you drill the holes through and through from the outside, of find someway to drill them partially through from the inner edge where the loop is?
thanks!
Dave
-
Hi Dave,
I drilled the hole into the framing before I glued them into the fuselage. I had made marks for where the eyelets go.
-
Very nicely done, just wished all your hard work would be visible. Looking forward to your progress.
-
Outstanding work! May not be seen but you have certainly added even more detail to a kit that is already great!
RAGIII
-
Thank you RAGIII ! I have really enjoyed the build so far....a little intimidated about the rigging....but that will close to the end lol
-
I still class this as the best kit Wingnuts have ever produced and what you have done so far has made it even better. I built this kit when it was first released and thoroughly enjoyed the build, the rigging may seem complex but if you take your time you will handle it without a problem.
Des.
Here is a link to my build just in case you need a bit of help along the way but judging from what you have done so far you will not need any help; https://ww1aircraftmodels.com/page7.html

Evening everyone,
My first attempt a doing wood grain......

A really cool looking interior with all that interior rigging. The wooden tones came out very nicely as well. This is an interesting build to follow!

Hello all,
Small update. Haven’t had much time to work on the Bristol lately. But I did manage to get some work done on the landing gear. I wrapped some EZ line around the struts and axle to simulate the bungee cord.....

Hello again,
Another small update. I was able to get the cockpit and wing struts “varnished” this evening. Pretty happy with the finish.

Evening all,
Well the struts are all taped up on the ends. Hopefully tomorrow I can paint the tape dark yellow then get the decals on them

You are doing an excellent job with this build, the wood colours are superb.

Yes, I concur, your wood tones are really nice. I like the use of the tape on the struts as well. Very nicely done and add that extra depth that paint can't replicate.
-
Thank you gentlemen!! :)

Good evening gentlemen,
The wing struts are now finished. Decals done last evening and just finished putting a second and final coat of “varnish”

Question....what do you folks use or recommend for the upper colour of RAC aircraft?
Looking great! You have asked the Million dollar question here 8) I am sure many will chime in. I have been mixing my own and am never truly happy with the outcome. So on my upcoming Dolphin build I am going to try Drooling Bulldog PC10 paints.
RAGIII
-
I notice a lot of Tamiya products in your photos so here's my preferred Tamiya PC.10 Mix:
Equal amounts of XF-62 Olive Drab, XF-51 Khaki Drab, and XF-55 Desert Tan.
To that add about half of one of those measures of XF-10 Flat Brown. The brown can be decreased or increased depending on the "brownish tint" you desire, and really increased to provide the more "chocolaty brown" PC-12 color.
If you prefer enamels I also use a 50/50 mix of Model Master Olive Drab SKU 17110 and Faded Olive Drab SKU 20510. You can add some dark brown or even red to that to experiment.
Keep in mind we'll never know the one true version of PC.10, it's a matter of personal interpretation, taste, and degree of sanity! :o ::)
Have fun!
Cheers,
Lance

Excellent work, thus far! Promises to be a real gem!

Hello all!
Its been a few days.....I mixed up the PCL 10 colour which I’m really happy with. As you can see it is more on the green side. I almost didn’t notice that the colour wraps around the edges of the wings and tail lol

Hello everyone!
Sorry I haven’t posted recently. Been busy working on the Bristol. I have been able to get a fair amount done...well it feels like a fair amount! I got the fuselage together and painted. The decals are on as well. After that was finished I set on getting the rigging for the tail section finished....

I am letting the superglue sit over night to make sure it cured fully then I will go back and paint the control lines and turn buckles.
-
Great job on the dual rigging to the various control horns, always a challenge and you did it beautifully.
-
Thank you sir!
Yes it has been a challenge. But I am really happy with it so far.

Wow, your control lines and all rigging looks fantastic.... :D

That's pretty significant progress alright, and some very nice work. I'm enjoying your Build thus far, I may be repeating myself however this is definitely my favorite Kit! Looking forward to more.

Nice build so far ...
I won't to disappoint you, because you put a lot of effort in, but the F.2B don't have turnbuckles but uses "RAF wires" on the wings. This are not cables but streamlined bars with threads on the end sitting in terminals.
Please see WNW website for very nice pictures. I'm not sure about the tail rigging, because I just started my Fighter build (in 1/48).
Cheers,
Frank
-
Hello Frank,
Thank you for your input on the wires. This is my first WnW kit and first WW1 aircraft....and won’t be my last! I know there is is lots I can improve on. On the next kit I will look to improve on techniques and my skills for building WW1 aircraft. Input and advise is always welcome, how else can we improve! :)

Your progress moving along, enjoy all the aspects and what you learn on the way !!

Looking good Frank (s/b Mutter1, sorry for brainfart), can't wait for your next update (no rush ;D).

Juan, I don't want to adorn oneself with borrowed plumes! This is not my build report ;)
I will start my "Bristol Fighter" report soon.

As I am getting closer to finishing the Bristol, I have been thinking on my next kit. My birthday is coming up in a few weeks and my wife said I can buy another kit......thinking of the Gotha, one of the Felixstowes or one of the AEG’s. What do you folks think is a good second kit?
-
Your rigging looks outstanding! Great work overall. As for the next one the Gotha is OOP so unless you want to pay a ransom price you are left with the other choices. A nice German AEG would go well with your Bristol.
RAGIII
-
That looks fantastic! Everywhere!
-
Thank you gentlemen!
Well it is going to be a difficult choice as my LHS has both the AEG late and the Felixstowes......hmmm which way to go! LOL
-
Wow...just...
-
Looking at your results thus far I'd say there are no limits on your next subject! I'm presently immersed in the Late AEG and it's a "long haul" but a fantastic Kit. I'm looking forward to seeing this one in the Completed Models Section, she's a real beauty!
Cheers,
Lance
-
Thank you! So am I lol. Still undecided as to which way I’m going for the next kit

Mutter,
Beautiful work my friend. First Class all the way.

Hello all,
I know thisisn’t related to my build here. But I wanted to show you all what I came up with at our model contest/ vendor mart. The contest was held at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Meusum. I entered a Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire MK. VIII...I received a second for my efforts. But enough of that....here is what I managed to come home with....

I like how the Blue Max Pfalz's box says, "Detailed scale model for adult collectors". So, apparently, you really aren't supposed to build them.
-
Ya it is kind of funny. But it might be due to the female”movie star” resin figure included with the model and pilot
-
Hello everyone,
As I am getting closer to finishing the airframe I turned my attention to the engine. I made up the sparkplug wire and spark plugs.....ohh and added valve springs lol

Looking good.
High voltage spark plug wire would never be twisted like that , along with any other wire on any vehicle built , just not done.
-
Beautiful work there , this is shaping up as a model to be proud of. Your fine detail additions deserve extra praise.
And a great model haul from the model show. I bought the Encore Blue Max Pfalz kit during my last holiday in America. It was calling my name from a shelf at Hobbytown USA in Las Vegas. Nice kit and this time I don't have to hand paint the Blue Max lozenge markings as I did with various Aurora 1/48th Fokkers in the 1960s!

Nicely done. What sort of grime "wash" did you use? You have a great model coming along here!
Cheers,

Hi Lance,
I used MIG’s “Engine Grime” and MIG’s dark wash.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't source the MIG line by net shopping Canadian sites but got the AK Interactive similar products, great stuff compared to the oil paints
I've been mixing on my own all these years.

Marvelous!

Good evening everyone,
Well I have a bit of bad news. I came home from work today to find the Bristol on the floor in pieces. I’m devastated. It is repairable. But it will take some time. So I will be suspending posting in this build blog. I will be continuing on the FE.2b. I am a little discouraged but I will be getting to the rebuilding of the Bristol at a later date.
Thank you everyone For your kind words and encouragement during the build!
The Bristol will rise again!
-
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. What happened?
-
It was a beautiful progress, sad to know about the incident, I hope you can fix it.
Ciao

Hello all,
Upon closer inspection the damage is nor to bad. I will have to re-glue the wings and struts. Do a minor repair to one of the struts in front of the cockpit, remount the landing gear and replace 5 or 6 of the rigging wires. Alll in all not bad.....
-
glad to hear it's not a write-off. how did it happen? was there a cat involved? my cat's not allowed in my workshop. ever.
-
There was a cat involved. We live in an apartment and my display cases are full with other models.
-
That's one of the reasons we don't have cats any longer .
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
So are you now rigging with catgut!!!
Ray
-
No. The little guy is still with us. When I think about it....really it is my fault. I should have found a safer place for the Bristol.
-
Hello all,
Well the rebuild has begun. The lower wing has been repaired and reattached.
-
Living with cats and modelling will always involve compromises. I have accepted the fact that I will never build a contest-worthy model because I am never able to spot all of the cat hairs in time when I am painting or decaling. My cats are not allowed in my hobby room, but I am quite proficient at breaking and losing parts all on my own.
Bill
-
I understand and know the same pain!
-
Hello all!
Well as most of you know the Bristol had a minor accident.... but now she is on the mend. The lower and upper wings and all the struts are back in place. This time it feels a lot stronger. After inspecting closely...I will only have 6 rigging lines to replace. I got away pretty lucky from this accident....and so did the kit! :)
-
So your cat is released from prison cell?
Borsos
-
Glad to hear that the damage was not extensive. She deserves another chance as does your cat (not to play with plastic though).
-
Like the others I am glad you have been able to go back and repair this one! Looking forward to seeing the photos!
