On this, the 100th anniversary of Werner Voss's death, I decided to see if this kit could, in fact, be built in a weekend. Started this morning, I'm 8 hours in and have gotten quite a bit done.

Guess you can tell to which school of thought I subscribe. ;)

OOB except for the seat belts and the throttle.
Cheers,
Bud

Quite a challenge you have set your self Bud but what you have done so far in a relatively short time is excellent, looking forward to seeing if you meet your target.

Great start Bud, at this pace you can have this tribute to Voss done. Rooting for you.... :D
-
Wow, that's a challenge alright. I'll be watching closely for the next 48 hours!
Cheers,
Lance

Trust the force Bud ;-)
You can do it! Keep the updates coming.
-
If anyone can, Bud can!
Go Bud Gooooooooo!
von B ;)
-
Quite a challenge Amigo! I am sure you will turn out a spectacular Voss Tripe! Looks lovely so far!

Looks great! You seem to be doing in an hour what takes me a week. What are you using for paints and woodgraining that dries so quickly? You seem to be able to mask and apply decals over really freshly painted surfaces without disturbing them.
Dave

Bud, I have this kit too, but I'm much to slow for such short build time!
Your start looks good, but a weekend is really not long. I always asked me about the reason for the name of this Eduard series, may be I will know soon, that this is really possible. So I suggest to switch the computer off, this forum will take to much time for you this weekend, but please come back on Sunday evening ;)
Good luck!
Cheers,
Frank

Where's he gone? It must have beaten him

No worries, it's still early Saturday here in the US. Good luck, Bud!
-
Like some others I can barely cut some plastic in a weekend, you are intending to build the whole kit! So far it looks much like one of your usual builds - even if it is high speed. Looking forward to more - will you be working a night shift?
Stephen.

If my Amigo is going to do it in a weekend , he can't be answering here till Monday ...
Ed
-
Looks like you will be adding a Voss F.1 to collection Monday Morning.
-
Good luck Bud!
I somehow knew that you wouldn't be able to NOT add something that didn't come in the box. ;)
It usually takes me a weekend just to prep the parts to be ready for painting. ::)

great start bud. dont rush it. take your time and build a masterpiece worthy of the man

Nice one Bud, you are a brave man. Good job too. Well done mate ;D

Bud,
Outstanding quick and first progress my old friend. Keep up the high excellence and I'm looking forward to following along with this latest gem.

Looking forward to seeing a weekend kit finished within the allotted time. Takes me about 6 weeks. Good start so far.
-
Well, I actually finished this about a week ago but I've been struggling with both dropbox and photobucket so couldn't post anything till today and even then not all of the photos uploaded to photobucket. Oh, well. It's done. I'm convinced that anyone with a full 72 hrs without interruption could build a reasonable model from this kit. I'm pleased that I was able to finish it in 4 weeks considering we were away on a Rhine cruise for nearly 2 weeks and I had to work 3 days on either side of that trip. So, here she is.

With my other Dr.I, the old DML kit done in Steinhauser's markings.

And with my other Voss kite, the first model I completed after a 20 year hiatus and the model that got me hooked on WWI aircraft, Eduard's 1/48 Pfalz D.III.

I used Aviattic's wood decals, Dave, so no masking was required.
Thanks for all the encouragement, guys. Sorry to let y'all down.
Now to get back on that Pup.
Cheers,
Bud

Superb. Love it - especially the tail and rudder. The nose cowling is very fine as well. What the hell - brilliant all round! Congrats.

Great Bud! Another masterpiece from your bench. Congrats!
I hope you enjoyed your Rhine cruise.

Let down? Don't be daft!
I great result, Bud ;) Well done!

Awesome Amigo. Hard to believe it such a short amount of time. It is also nice to get a glimpse of the other two models as well!

VERY VERY nice Bud! The streaking is perfect and the prop very well represented as well. One to be proud of I'd say!

Ditto Our Amigo's comments !! Amazing how life gets in the way...

Bud,
Well Done my old friend. Model Masterpieces are common place from your most talented bench. Amazing build time too. Congratulations Bud.

Really nice job Bud! 8) The streaked camo finish is my favorite part. What's your technique?
Also, were you able to keep to the OOB with the exception of the throttle and seatbelts and of course the rigging?
I'm currently working on the Eduard Pfalz Weekend Edition and with the exception of the rigging it will be completely OOB.I'm even using the decal seatbelts and single solid casted Spandau MG's. Just curious to see what can be done with only what Eduard gives you. :D
-
pretty little thing, looks like the main show not a side project.
i too am particularly keen on your streaking technique, looks better than a great many i've seen (i'm not keen on using decals since the originals were painted).
-
When did this appear? I missed it whenever it was but am sure glad that i have seen it now. The streaking is top notch, but the rest of the model has plenty to write home about too. For a quick build that is simply superb. Nobody has been let down there Bud.
Stephen.
-
Bud, glad to see the finished model - very nice result in a fantastic build time!
I have a started Dr.I to beside my other projects, but I need _much_ longer!
I'm also interested in your technique of the streaked camo finish.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers,
Frank

Very excellent F1 Bud!
I like the colours you have used.
I have read all the F1/Voss posts on the aerodrome many times and IMHO
I reckon you colour scheme is pretty much spot on.
Great model all round. :)
-
Thank you all for your very kind comments. Sorry it took so long to respond, but I'm just a lazy, irresponsible, daft prick.
Andreas, the Rhine cruise was awesome! Medieval architecture every where you look. I love that whole Rhine valley.
Frank, Jeff and Chuck, I hate to disappoint you guys, But the streaking is all Aviattic decals. http://www.aviattic.co.uk/148-fokker-streaked-camouflage-decals.html
The good news is that anyone can get the same results. We've all used decals to replicate markings that were painted on the originals and no one seems to mind. These decals are the finest around and have none of the pixalling often associated with large surface decals. Truly wonderful stuff.
Thanks again, guys!
Cheers,
Bud

not disappointed, Aviattic's stuff is impeccable. i'll probably still do my streaking by hand, but whomever's in second place to Aviattic's lozenges isn't likelty to be a close second. the colors in particular are pitch perfect...
i also read a lot of theaerodrome stuff on this kite and i'm also drinking the 'streaks over blue' kool-aid. besides, it's prettier than streaks over CDL.
