Very nice spread of photos. Where is this survivor on display, does anyone know anything about this airframe's history? Thanks to Gunther for sharing this info.
Cheers,
Lance

Thought to be ex-Dutch Navy.
This D.VII was found after World War 2 in a barn, probably originating from the Deutschen Luftfahrt Sammlung. Although wearing the registration 4404/18, it is not sure if this is the aircrafts true identity. During restoration it was found that there were many 'non-World War 1' modifications, and the Dutch MLD-serial 'D-20' was found.

I can add to those, here are some I took of the RAF Museum example:

Having read the links and "digested" the comments I suspect the only thing we'll ever be sure of is...............we're not sure! Such a shame so many were destroyed at War's end. Beautiful aircraft.
Cheers,

Thanks for the photo's gents, it's always sad when they destroy aircraft - they recently buried many of Australia's retired F-111's.
Very sad day.

The Venus de Milo is arguably more beautiful because her arms are lost...

I recall a field full of retired RCN Hawker Sea Furys being broken up; enough to make a man cry!! Will we never learn?!
Cheers,

Back to the D.VIIs -- it's kind of ironic that the Munich Fokker is dressed up as a WWI German bird (when in fact it was in all likelihood built post war in The Netherlands and wore Dutch Navy livery), while the one in The Netherlands' Militaire Luchtvaart Museum -- an actual authentic Jasta veteran -- is presented in Dutch markings that that particular aircraft never wore while in service.
Maybe the two museums should trade ;D
