I'll let this dry for a couple of days before adding details and tweaks.

Keep up the great work, Pete. I love seeing this sort of thing - Cheers!

Fascinating to see your systematic approach to "constructing" a painting; different medium but the same approach as Model making. Great post, educational, and I look forward to more!

Very nice. I love the plane touching the water. Very life-like.

I'll work on the Short further this week and be sure to post an update. In the meantime I'm busy looking at reference material and aircraft plans.

Gisbod - do give it a go, and I'm always happy to help.

Slower progress as I add detail and correct colours and value.

There are a few issues I'm not happy with, but given the small size of the painting I can live with them.

Unless I keep looking at this and pick it to death, I'm calling this one done.

It's a pleasure to see the genesis of a picture as well the finished work.
Thank you for sharing.

Lovely piece of art, Pete.
What will be the next subject awaiting the easel?

Very nicely done!
My only comment would be the comparison of the very stark shadow on the floats and nose compared to the underside of the wings, which are a lot lighter. Maybe the fuselage should be lightened and the wing undersurfaces darkened a little to give a consistent light/shadow effect?
I'm not an artist so don't pretend to know what is right, but thought I'd give my tuppence worth...

@Bob
Well with a WnW W.12 on order and the wireframe guide just completed I'm thinking my next challenge will be painting Naval Hex ! Once the kit arrives I'll be sure to look you up for some turnbuckle things.

@IanB - That's a good call as light on this one is my biggest concern. I could waffle on about cast shadow being darker than areas in the shade, that I was try to suggest the translucent nature of fabric wings as opposed to the solid wings of modern aircraft, or that I was allowing for reflected light off of the sea, but the reality is without a visual guide it's very subjective. Photos often make areas in shadow look darker than they are in reality and perhaps I over compensated for that here.

Spent the last few hours knocking this up

This is a very early stages of the colour block in. The composition is not strong (there is no composition) but I'll work on the light and colours and see what it brings. I'm waiting on the Wingnut Wings kit of the W.12 and can see me working a major painting featuring it.
