Just wondering if any of my fellow modeling brothers or sisters on here also fly on Rise of Flight? If you're into combat flight sims, it's a monster.
This trailer is actual in-game footage. Yes, it's that good.

Yup. Got it day one on release. Love it.
I need to catch up with the You-tube videos, that's a good one you linked.
I like this (old) one - games come on a bit since then of course

I'd like to do a model pfalz in that scheme some day :D

Do you ever fly online/MP NP?
And that IS one crazy Pfalz scheme. :)

Yeah, Warren, I'm an addict, I fly MP with the Jasta 2 boys. My RoF handle is J2_Tony. We usually fly on the Syndicate server around 19:00 UTC. We also participate in most of the the tournaments (e.g. Bloody April and FEOW) most of the squad has been standing down over the summer, but I suspect we will become active again quite soon.
There are a few other RoF'ers here as well...
Here is a fun little video made by one of our guys, showing J2 annihilating a huge flight of IRFC HPs:

Cool beans UncleTony. I love The Syndicate server, and would love to fly with an online group, but my time to fly is so here and there, I can never commit to practices, etc.

Have done occasionally in the past Warren, not lately tho.
Nice film UT

Downloaded it overnight.
Look out for the villainous Von Buckle in his pixelated DR.1. I'm comin' at ya!
BVB VC & Bar Bar :P
-
Good luck in the pixelated skies Von B!
If you run into issues (lots to learn in such a deep sim), head on over to the ROF forum; plenty of folks there to lend a hand. Also a fair number of model enthusiasts and of course aviation and history enthusiasts...

Yep! And New Wings is a pretty good crew too.

I've had it since release too, and it keeps drawing me back. Not many games I've had that lasted so well, partly because it gets updated so much. Just bought a W12 too, so looking foward to trying that one out! :)

As one of the NW crew I could agree there ;)
=NW=Rossolini reporting in.
It's an excellent game, highly recommend it. I myself have been flying it for a year and a half.

It's a perosnal squadron scheme for a virtual squadron known as les Hellequins.

I have downloaded the free version twice and each time I have tried to install the game I get 'corrupt file' - I've given up!
I've done all the things you need to do to comply with windows 7 and still no joy!
Not so Happppy days!

Are you downloading it via the torrent or from here?
http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=20836

Check the file size is around 3.84Gb- maybe the download is just getting disconnected or timing out? (3.84Gb is just what the file size was when I last downloaded- I guess it's slightly different now)
I do vaguely remember it being a bit of a pain to install on windows7 64bit, I don't think it would be anything to do with the corrupt file error though.
-
The only issue I had installing it on windows7 64bit was with running the install file as an admin, which was something I didn't know about, being a mac guy.
It does sound like the download probably timed out. I think there's a log somewhere on your PC you can peek at for clues, but like Rizzo suggests, start by looking at the download file size.
Sorry to hear about your experience so far, it gets better :-)
-
Thanks Riz & UT ;)
Will check file size when I get home.
I'm a Mac dude, too! Macbook pro - would be lost without it :)

The torrent is the way to go IMHO. Often the browsers flip out if it is taking too long and says you've done it when it's only half way, hence the corrupted file.
-
Can I use uTorrent to download the file? If so, how do I initiate the process?
Cheers,

uTorrent should work fine. Don't know the specifics of using that particular client, but I think you just basically enter the torrent address and hit go...

Yep, I`ve got it and fly it. For the Germany my current plane is Albatros DIII. The only con of this game is AI. The enemies are really dumb. I`m able to beat them easilly even with 100% realism.( the only option turned on is warmed up engines). However I recommend this game for every WWI aviation fan. It`s gorgeus!
-
I'm sure no expert, but I have to say, I'm very disappointed in the flight model for some of the a/c, most particularly the Albatros series. It flies like a moving van. (My very first piece of software I bought for a PC was a combat flight sim, in January of '94, and that's been my favorite gaming activity on computers ever since. ) The AI, as some of you have mentioned, leaves a great deal to be desired, especially in the Beta career mode, I've heard the Pat Wilson Campaign Generator has improved that somewhat.
When you look at it, it's a terribly, terribly expensive sim, I won't even look at what I've spent on RoF. Personally, I don't like that, but it's the only game in town if you want a WWI flight sim experience aside from OFF which I can't get to run on my PC since my latest upgrade back in 2011.

I purchased the Felixstowe recently, and it's fast becoming one of my favourites... and I'm hoping WnW make another giant kit in the future, it's such a beautiful aircraft.

Just thought I'd resuscitate this thread from the musty depths to see if there are any more fellow modelers that are also simmers. Rizzo, I love flying my Felixstowe! Looks like you got your wish in the form of a WNW kit!

I fly ROF also on the first day. However, only offline all these years.
My favorite toy is the Fokker Dreidecker. Extremely difficult learning curve, but once you get the bow, then the thing makes hell of fun.
Also, the Camel, but for this bird, I need more practice.
But the greatest challenge was learning the (accident-free) landing a Fokker EV/D.VIII.
Virtual Flyer Greetings to all knights of the air in this forum ;D
-
Great to hear Bertl! 777 Studios just made a flight model revision recently, and some folks, especially some Dreidecker pilots are not happy. :'( They slowed the Dreidecker and Camel down a bit to more accurately reflect historical speeds.
I need to start flying off-line more using Pat Wilson's campaign generator.
