Those of you on FB may have seen my tired and battered warhorse Rumpler. I did some marmite method chipping on her. Unfortunately I dropped the damn model right at the end of rigging. Hence this new diorama, which involved some bending over a candle and some snipping and rearranging, including the prop. Idea was that she's ground looped after a forced landing. I'd already done the figures. The base is Meadow scene meadow grass and some fake earth.

Very nicely done Dave and a neat idea on turning it in to a dio in the end .

Brilliant recovery, Dave! Your dio looks as though it had been planned from the start. Only someone with your skills could pull that off.
Cheers,
Bud

Some amazing modelling, there Dave! I like it very, very much. It is so convincing and really shows what can be done! Your ground work and figure painting skills are excellent! I'm glad there are modellers like you around - it gives us something to aspire to!

Wow Dave, your unfortunate accident turned into a gorgeous diorama. Your efforts in replicating the picture provided are to be commended. Beautiful build all-around.
** Though black & White picture was a period piece, boy do I feel embarrassed (does not change the fact that your build is outstanding) :o

Uncanny, even ;)

Those of you on FB may have seen my tired and battered warhorse Rumpler. I did some marmite method chipping on her.
What a shame you dropped it after all that work! Good recovery with the diorama though.
May I ask what is marmite method chipping?
-
Brilliant recovery Dave! Your "ground work" is extremely convincing and the entire effect most impressive. As for replication of the photo reference, couldn't be better!! ;D ;D ;D
Cheers,
Lance

Excellent work Dave, your superb modeling skills have turned a disaster into a showpiece.

Now that shows some vision and high level skills. Great stuff, Dave!
Best wishes

You're all very kind. It's not an old photo though, but one of the model put thru a bakamatsu kokushin programme.
Try it here....

The marmite method is just a salt chip using marmite applied with a sponge over a CDL colour, then painted over, then scrubbed off with a stipple brush.

Great work, Dave.
Sometime it needs a missfortune to get an outstanding result. I think now you like your Rumpler more as if it was just standing on the ground.
Love it.

I did exactly the same with my Rumpler Dave - and the same colour scheme- you've brought back bad memories! But mine went in the bin - well done for a recovery. I didn't have the patience...

What a fantastic disaster. I do not fancy the crash scenes but always admire those who can make them look real in modelling. This one is a good example. Congratulations!
-
Without reading your notes I would have thought that you had planned this from the start. Building and modelling any crash scene is extraordinarily difficult in my opinion - that you have achieved such a convincing model is a tribute to a truly outstanding - nay exceptional - modeller.
Stephen.
-
Exceptional work on this one Dave - nice to see how you worked it into the completed diorama.
Cheers,
Gary

Now that is a prime example of when life hands you lemons ...make lemonade! Just my opinion of what makes a master craftsman is what do you do when mishaps occur? How do you recover? Well done! My hat is off to you! I hope I can learn from your example!

Huzzah. I won gold in diorama class and a trophy at the Poole with this today!
-
Congratulations on your award, you really made a beauty out of a mishap.
-
Great and well deserved! You have made an interesting diorama out of this accident.
