Here's the completed beast in all her tattered glory! Thought I'd post a few final photos, a few new, some from the Build Thread (not of the best quality for sure) to wrap up this build.
This one was planned to be a "dirty" finish from the start, lots of wear, tear, and weathering. The kit is truly a joy to work with and any problems encountered were of my own doing. The Build also had a lot of "firsts" for me: Microsculpt Fabric Decals over Lozenge, the use of Soft Pastels to produce "after-shading" on flying surfaces and the all black fuselage, and the special challenges of a monochrome all black fuselage in itself.
Thanks to the several members who helped out with suggestions, techniques, and encouragement. Not my best work but I've learned a lot from this one and look forward to the DVa in the Spring hopefully.

and last, the fuel drain line from the cockpit Fuel Control Panel as a Thanks for the reminder & proof of inclusion for the ultimate Albieholic, Keith (Kornbeef) Graveson's enjoyment.

She's a masterpiece Lance. I hope mine turns out 1/2 as nice.

That is one tattered bird, Lance! Just a great looking build. I still say that weathered black fuselage is the star of the show. Beautiful.

She's stunning, Lance. Absolutely brilliant in every way.

That is a beautiful Albatros! Your work on the engine, interior, and paint scheme are all superb!

Beautifully tatty, Lance ;)
Well done!
The 1.1 scale Albie (NZ treasure) I saw flying @ the Duxford Airshow this past weekend twas a feast for my eyeballs. They need to work on their weathering, though IMHO ;D hehe

Add me to the list of those preferring Mr. Color lacquer paint. I've tried the other methods but this one works best for me. Quick and easy to apply, no balling up mid-way along the line, and good even coverage.
Great attention to detail Lance. She looks fabulous!

Thanks all for the kind comments. Next one will be approached with a little more confidence!

What lovely workmanship, mate -
I'll settle for your 'not one of better efforts' standard any day of the week if I could achieve the same result!!
Best regards

Lance,
Awesome Albie my old friend. Love that Death's Head insignia.

Lance, I will echo what I said over in your build log,
In a word Lance - Stunning - I really like the worn look you have created, it suits the aeroplane beautifully, and your engine is superb, an excellent result.
and to add to my comments I will say that your rigging is also excellent, with a show stopper model like this I can't wait to see what your next masterpiece will be.

Very, very nice, indeed. It may be taken by some of you as a blasphemy, but I do not especially like Albatros scouts. Yet, this black one has something to herself... Lovely!
One question - how have you done those covers of inspection holes? Dedicated PE? Scratch?
-
Blasphemy! ;D
Just kidding, the world would be very boring indeed if everybody had the same taste!

PrzemoL,
The covers/doors are from the Eduard Alb. DIII P. Etch Detail set. I bent the hinge portion at the desired angle and CA'd them in place. The TVAL replicas show a hinged support mechanism (like a hinged arm) on the inside of the doors however I could not find any evidence of those on the very few photos I had of the real item, so I elected to leave them off.

Beautiful Work Lance, she turned out just sweet as a nut. (which means wonderful) Fantastic attention to the litle things that make a build special.
All those little trials and setbacks now can be forgotton ;)
