Hi All,
I hope these are of interest as alternatives to the standard Airfix oob offerings. Both use the Belgian roundels supplied with the last re-issue of the RE8. Relatively simple conversions a Spad kit is a requirement as it will provide the Hispano Suiza nose area that is the main difference between the later Belgian version and the British type. The crew positions are reversed in the BE2c but again this is not difficult. The RE8 was one of my first conversion attempts on my return to the fold and lacks the wing root cut outs. One day perhaps but the rigging makes it a precarious task without a major dismantling. I’d always liked the look of the Belgian Quirk since seeing photos in the WSDF so when Airfix released the BE2c this year I decided to have a go.
This is the Harry Tate build thread with the main article near the end. There is much room for improvement but the basic groundwork is there.

The BE2c build article. BTW both kits sport tail stripes that came with the Aifix RE8. These have the red leading with the black trailing, the opposite of every Belgian aircraft illustration that I’ve seen. Did Airfix make a mistake or were British built aircraft destined for Belgium issued with this format of stripes ??

Great looking conversions. Had not seen these before. Thanks for posting.

Great piece of modelling on this venerable kit.

As usual Steve you have chosen unusual and less well known subjects and made excellent models of both. I too had not known of these variants until I came across them in your build logs.
Stephen.
