Well it has been awhile since the last time I build a WW1 subject . I finally finished the project I state in honor of my Dad . Bench is cleared and ready to start Eduards weekend edition on the N-17 . This will be out of the box build . Nothing fancy about it when it comes to detail . I need a simple project for doing 3 Tamiya 32 scale birds back to back .
Scheme will be the box makings of Ian fulco Rufle di Calabria , 91 squadriglia , spring 1917 . I like the skull on the fuselage sides :)
Progress photo's coming soon ...

Excellent choice Terri. Looking forward to seeing your work. :)

Looking forward to seeing you tackle this one Terri, I'm sure it will be up to your usual high standards.

I look forward as well to seeing this WIP, just for the sake of precision, the correct spelling of this pilot's name is Fulco Ruffo di Calabria 20 victories credited.
He succeeded Francesco Baracca as commander of the 91th Squadriglia after his death in June 1918.

There are not so many photos of Fulco in a Ni-17. Here is one. His most famous plane was the SPAD (it's on show at the Italian Airforce Museum in Vigna di Valle near Rome).
Great choice Terri!

Good choice, in my opinion the weak point of this model is the engine but overall is nice as it is in the box. Best whishes!

Good luck with this one Terri - and great to see you and your work back on the forum. I have my chair in the front row for some of the best views….

Excellent choice, T! If you need a break from complex and challenging builds, this is the way to go. Really looking forward to following along.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Thanks guys . I started cutting parts getting them ready for clean up and paint .
Andonio , thanks for the photo and the reminder on sbeling ords corwrekly ;)
Giuseppe , this plagues all of Eduards kit . Nice detail with the rest of the kit except for their engines .

Looking forward to following your progress on this one Terri, another "silver seventeen" to help me through mine! Great scheme you've chosen, what are you planning to use for the basic silver dope?
Cheers,
Lance

Terri,
I'm looking forward to following your latest WWI project my old friend. Love your choice in Italian markings too.

Thanks Lance and Gregory 8)
Lance , I'm planning on using Vallejo white alum in their new metal coat line .
Terri

Terri,
I am certainly looking forward to seeing you do this one! It has been too long since one of your builds has graced our threads!

Thanks Rick :)
Well , I have been busy at the bench over the past few days and got the cockpit done with various other items ready to go . I still need to finish detail painting of the V struts . I couldn't help adding a bit of detail to dress it a bit better without going overboard . Structural bracing was added on both sides and the control cable on the rudder bar . Seat belts where added to dress up the seat better . The rudder has it decals applied , don't have to do this later and it's ready for weathering .

Those cockpit interior shots look really good, This one is shaping up nicely - the paint finish on the cowling is super.
Stephen.

Great start Terri! Your interior looks awesome!

Beautiful start Terri!

Nice detail work Terri, and I really like the silver on the cowling. Is it the Vallejo White Aluminum you mentioned earlier?
Cheers,
Lance
-
Thank-you guys for the kind comments . Halves are glued together and then it's putty and sanding time ...
Lance , yes and no . Yes I did use Vallejo's new metal cote range and I'm sad to say that no it's not the white alum . It is their polished alum spray right over bare plastic .
Terri

Good start, Terri.
I will follow this build.

Terri,
As always outstanding progress my old friend. Very impressive work on her interior and beautifully painted cowl. I believe I need to take a serious look at these new Vallejo metal cote line. Hopefully I can lay them down better than the Alclad paints. Keep up the high standards Terri.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Thanks Manni , hope you enjoy the build :)
Gregory , they are very easy to use , as you can see the paint on the cowl . It has a more lustrous shine to it when their gloss black primer is used . I haven't tried any other brand of acrylic gloss black as the primer , but I will give Tamiya black a try and see what happens .
Have a look on their web site they have a bit of info on the metal cote and other products . I just started using Vallejo Model Air and I love it ! Takes a bit longer to dry then what Tamiya . But Vallejo Metal cote dries very fast . You can mask in ten minutes , but they do recommend waiting 24 hours for it to cure .

Very nice start on the cockpit, it looks clean and sharp in detail. Just pretty!
Best wishes

Stunning work, Terri! There is some very neat and detailed work in the cockpit! The Rudder looks lovely too... I'm going to enjoy this build! Regards, Marc
-
Looking great Terri :)
I think is the same model I made about 3 and a 1/2 years ago.. I rushed mine though, trying to take the "weekend" theme literally!

Shaping up beautifully, T! Your work in the pit is outstanding!

Some fine modelling, Terri. Looking forward to see more.

I have made progress . Fuselage halves a joined and puttying and sanding done . There is detail needed to dress up a few areas before the primer . Lower wing has been test fitted and I got a much better fit this time around on this build compared to the last one I did . Will have some pic's up this weekend .
Thanks guys for following along so far . :)
Terri
-
Didn't get as far as I wanted to get . A set back on the lower wing . Once I had it glued in place and clapped it to dry overnight . It shifted a bit , she's not coming off and spending the time to cut it free will end in greater disaster . There is a gap between the chin pan and fire wall . Not sure I will fill this . Testing the cowl shows that it really won't be seen and is hidden so I will leave it at that .
Terri

Terri,
" Testing the cowl shows that it really won't be seen and is hidden so I will leave it at that"
I agree, leave it as is, it's completely hidden by the cowling on my 1:32 Scale Build. Looking very promising so far.
Cheers,
Lance

Great progress T!

Thank-you Lance and Rick :)
Spent some time doing more sanding last night while I was watching Harry Potter . I polished the areas where I sanding for a smoother surface and I'm ready to shoot some primer and see how my filling and sanding jobs turned out . Also remembered to drill the eyelet holes for the rigging . I always miss this step and have to do it after painting .
I'm off to the bench !
Terri
-
That's looking very cool, Terri! And great progress... Regards, Marc
-
Terri up to your usual very high standards! I simply love the Ni 17s I`ll follow your build from now on.

I missed your post Monty and xmald , thank-you for your comments . Haven't done anything since the last weekend . But I will have more progress very soon .

Made a little progress over the weekend . Fuselage I sprayed using Vallejo's metal colours white alum along with the wings and wheels . The areas to be painted red and green are also done . Green is a little on the dark side , but doable . The gun deck and lower chin pan was sprayed alum .
Terri
-
Looking good, T! The green looks great to my eye.
Cheers,

Paintwork looks great Terri!
Is this the variant with the overpainting of the French roundels on the upper surface of the top wings?

Nice, colourful work, Terri.

Great job Terri, love the paint. Looking forward to your progress.

Like all of the others the paint work looks great to me T! Looking forward to your next update!

Absolutely great believable colours, Terri! Great finish too! This is good progress... Regards, Marc

Your painting is first class - just the right tones and super clean and smooth. Great work!

Hi Ian , yes the French roundels are over sprayed on the top wing on this variant .
Thank-you folks for the comments , decals are next !
Terri

Hi Terri, I thought it was - will you be spraying over the decals or hand painting?
-
Very nice work. The painting is spot on to my eye
-
Hi Terri, I thought it was - will you be spraying over the decals or hand painting?
Hi Ian , in this scale I will be spraying the over coat on the decals . With Vallejo's Metal coat I found when building the mustang that this paint can be very finely misted . I use a 0.066 needle in my airbrush , I use this size for all my airbrushing so I get excellent atomization of the paint .

I am looking forward to seeing this! I was really apprehensive about overpainting decals but taking care with fine thin coats works a treat..
-
Having spent most of the day in front of the bench yesterday was able to get a good airbrush session in .
Every thing got a few coats of future for the decals and I glad that there is so few on this build ! :) Once dried another coat of future to seal the decals . Out comes the masking tape for doing ribs and other details and this was highlighted with Tamiya smoke followed by a wash of drity brown . Flat coating was next and I'm ready for stage of the weathering .

Very nice Terri, she is going to be a nice looking Italian bird. :D

Nice work overspraying the "old" roundels, very effective!

Your subtle weathering work on the wings looks great, Terry.

Thanks guys for the positive feedback . Even though I really not happy with the out come so far . The mistake I made gluing the bottom wing still bothers me . However I will get this one wrap up very soon .
Landing gear is installed and rig with weathering done ready to the wheels . Gun and it's ammo feed chutes are in place . I wanted to get the internal struts in place and then post pic's , but I have to repaint the struts do to paint bleed and paint lifted created by my own stupidity which I'm quite proud that I didn't have to use someone's else's ! I generated my very own ! One more work day then I'm off for the next five days so an up-date is coming very soon .

Work did come to a stand still . I didn't want to feel left out so I went a got myself a cold over the holiday season . The novelty of this gift has worn off and I feeling my old self once more .
Back in front of the bench I was final able to wrap this one up .
More pic's in the completed section .

So glad you're feeling better, T! Your Nieuport is AWESOME!
