Does anyone have any info on this particular plane? I haven't been able to find much of anything other than some drawings and an old kit with grossly out of color lozenges. It appears to possibly be a D.VIIF instead of the earlier Fok version.

I remember a discussion some years back on the aerodrome forum. Must say iirc it was determined suspect by a few of the old timers like Dan San abbot and the like . Other than that I don't know

I don't think there is any clear photographic evidence of what Lothar's DVII(s) looked like?
From one of the old Aerodrome threads on the subject, the below is Greg Vanwyngarden's thoughts on the DVII Lothar damaged on Aug 8th 1918:
We only know that by August 8, Lothar was flying his "lovely red bird" ("mein schöner, roter Vogel...") which he damaged on that day.."My lovely red bird took it badly and the wing broke in two". The photo of Lothar and Foerster MAY show this bird (I wrote that caption in OtF) and may not, but the fuselage looks dark. Now, had this machine been fitted with a new wing five days later, and was Lothar flying it ?? Probably, but who can say ?? The serial number is not known to me, and I doubt that it ever will be.
If I had to say, Tom (TCA), I'd say that the description given above probably isn't far off: a BMW-engined D.VII with five-color fabric wings, red nose and fuselage, and possibly yellow tail - but the rudder and rear 1/3 of the fin would have remained factory finish white. Wheel covers, and struts were certainly probably red too.

Thanks guys for the replies. Seems this is a very wild interpretation. I am probably just going to go with the Lowenhardt version instead.

Here is a link to my Lowenhardt build. I hope this helps some. I also hope to see you post your build log ;D

Your build is very beautiful. I really like how you did the lozenges under the paint to give the final yellow a proper look. I will post a buildup but I am going to do a Roland D.VIb first and maybe a Pfalz. I completely ruined a Pup being a bit impatient. Here in the next week or so I will be installing a paint booth and several shelves to get the hobby room all nice.
